Huge news coming out of Turkey today that Fenerbahce are in advanced talks with Raul Meireles.

The Turkish transfer window closes on 5th Septmber and Fenerbahce expect to complete the signing of Raul Meireles within the deadline #CFC

@SkySports: Turkish giants Fenerbahce have revealed that they have opened negotiations with Chelsea over Raul Meireles. Fener reveal Meireles talks | Chelsea News, Fixtures, Results, Transfers | Sky Sports

Am actually quite ****** off to be honest. I just hope Di Matteo has a plan because the he and Mikel partnership looks the strongest in midfield.

Especially after his solid performance vs Newcastle, and Lampard's performances so far, I was expecting more of Meireles and Mikel starting together. Now, we have Mikel, Romeu and Lampard in CM?

Logical thing to do imo is give Dave Louise a few games there in the cup, see how he does.

I think this is a terrible bit of business by Chelsea, considering the options you have left now are Lampard and Mikel witH experience, you have Oscar but he is nowhere near ready to play that role. So I ask the question Lampard and Mikel, who were run ragged by Atletico, who backs them up if they get an injury, I doubt Lampard can play every game anyway.

I really do not get letting Meireles go at all.

Well, he's not getting any younger, and they still have Romeu, who in my eyes could be a very good player. Ramires can also play in the middle if needed, so I don't think it's really that bad.

It's a bit of a headscratcher. Meireles isn't exactly a natural holding player, but he can certainly do a job there, and he complemented Mikel well. Romeu seems like a good alternative to me, but three players across two positions is spreading it a little thin. It makes Essien's loan a bit more odd, too.

No, no, no, no. No. Luiz is a talented player, but - like Phil Jones - a holding midfielder he is not.

Oriol Romeu, who I really rate. I think he should be given a shot now and again.

We also have Ramires who can complement Mikel in a double pivot by being an energetic runner... Also if we play a 4-3-3, Oscar can play in the midfield trio as well along with Mikel and Romeu. Would be a great fit in my opinion with Oscar (Creator), Romeu (Passer) and Mikel (Destroyer) with Lamps and Ramires providing cover

Its certainly not ideal and we are spreading too thin in an area where we anyways lack quality.... Looks like we will be in for a CM in January but until then we have to pray that Mikel remains fit.

Also Fenerbache payed 8-12 million pounds for Meirless according to various sources which is a great deal for a 29 year-old who was good but not great

Just to throw some names in the ring- Moutinho and M'Villa are now realistic targets in January.

What about FFP, no way you can get away with that in a few seasons time, whenever it fully takes force.

Its the wages of ONE player...but you drawing so many conclusions from that. We'll be fine when FFP comes around, firstly our potential to increase our revenues (Commercial, match-day) is huge.

Also we have shaped our transfer policy in order to complement our efforts so that we have a significant advantage over other clubs when FFP kicks in- Read this

That said Benayoun is one inflated wages although his contract expires next season thankfully so we are not going to be seeing him around for long unless he sets the world alight in a Hammers shirt

Far too early for any of that, plus Moutinho and M'Villa were always targets.

Not really imo... A week ago I would not have seen us going in for any of them. Also remembered that Mikel is off to ACON in January so RDM has to move fast when the transfer window opens unless he is relying on Oscar/Ramires to fill in which is a mistake in my opinion

We were on and off with the both of 'em, more so Moutinho however. I agree that when Mikel leaves we will need someone to cover him ASAP.

On a side note does that mean Moses is off in January as well?

22m for Moutinho, Chelsea should definitely consider him in January, as much as I hate to say it as a United fan. But he is a top top player and would be exactly what you need in the double-pivot, I think 22m is not too bad. Just got to hope that you beat him before Spurs.

Yep although I am not so worried about Moses. We have more than enough cover on the wings... Just hope RDM has a plan on who he wants in January

Agreed mate. Moutinho is a very complete midfielder who will definitely be a upgrade on Meireless/Essien. I would readily ay 22m for him.

M'Villa is a great option too and the prospect of a Oscar-M'Villa midfield in the future sounds good.

This is all very odd. Central midfield was one of our stronger positions last season and the wing was our weakest.

There is no way Porto will sell Moutinho in January after just letting Hulk go. I would've liked Witsel but he's gone o Zenit also.

Totally agree about Romeu, when he did play last season he really impressed. Was out of favour mid season onwards because of injuries and his agent shouting his mouth off about a potential earlier move back to Barca!

Won't be M'Villa, hasn't he been having a medical at Arsenal since May lol.
