You don't go for a defender when you are a goal down.

EDIT: His first sub should have been Ba, and Azpilicueta can join them after that.

If its going to help you win, why not?

Sure he might not score the winning goal but he'll add something different to the team that honestly we have been lacking for some time. Width.

Why oh why dd we sign Marko Marin? He is ******* dreadful as Godcubed and Mike have been saying.

We need a goal desperately -> Azpilicueta in. Lord, help me understand his logic.

Possibly because you’d want more attacking thrust for your fullbacks?

And you’d want all of this because in a context when the opposition is matching you in midfield and the shapes are generally the same – 4-4-2 vs 4-2-3-1 – the “spare” men are the fullbacks. So logically you’d want to have increased attacking bite from your “spare” zones. And replacing Ivanovic with Azpi is doing exactly this.

The question I’d ask is why waiting so late into the game for your second and third subs, given your general struggles; not why you are changing your fullbacks.

AVB subbed the more attacking BAE on for Naughton last week. It was BAE's cross that led to the goal to get a point.

That is the question I'm asking too, Azpilicueta makes perfect sense, but the timing and order of subs are not right in my eyes.

I agree, he makes subs about 10:15 minutes too late. But Azpili makes perfect sense, he is the only player you have who can open up the pitch as he keeps width, overlaps and provides crosses from the byline.

Like i already said couple of weeks ago, Rafa has always seemed a bit slow with the subs. Sometimes there's opposition sub wreaking havoc and he needs 10-15 minutes to react.

He did bring off Marin for Mata tbf.

Much better crosser of the ball than Brana? Adds extra width to the play?

Cross the ball to whom? Torres? Oscar? Mata? Azpi should not have been the first sub fullstop! You say it would add width to our play okay maybe so but from where did we score both of our goals? Did we suddenly start finding gaps down the right and pinging in worldy crosses forcing Brentford to make last ditch headers? Thought as much

Rafa would always make subs late. It's how he rolls.

Well he can keep rolling all the ******* way out of SW6!!!

I am actually going to pass on even bothering to talk about this game because everything i will say will just produce the same answers from the Rafa backers/people who love seeing Chelsea play like this. All i will say is congrats Brentford and unlucky for not getting the win you fully deserved.

He wasnt the first sub.... Mata was.

Of course it will, you just dont like the answers you get because you dislike Rafa.

No i don't like Rafa as a human and as a manager but never have done but its got nothing to do with your answers because i think they are legitimate but wrong. Not just because i don't like the mug but because i think they are wrong.

Quick question to all Rafa's love children on here do you think he has made any mistakes since taking this job?

I don't no mate cant really agree that he's making mistakes week in week out.

Too late in the game subs when we need to change something and they are like for like subs?

I fully agree the players on show today should be good enough to beat Brentford but you obviously have to question the motivation from the manager. They are not playing for him you can see that.

He should evidently play Marin more. Today he was an unstoppable god of the playing field, after all.

Marin was very poor, not once did i say he should start games but for his pace and direct running should come on in games more often late on when chasing a result i.e Kalou like.
