Marin was very poor, not once did i say he should start games but for his pace and direct running should come on in games more often late on when chasing a result i.e Kalou like.
Except Kalou could actually be bothered to move, unlike Marin.

I fully agree the players on show today should be good enough to beat Brentford but you obviously have to question the motivation from the manager. They are not playing for him you can see that.

And atleast Marin can control a football unlike Kalou?
Middlesbrough vs Brentford/Chelsea
Shouldn't they be playing for the fans? They're the ones paying the money to watch the games and to pay the players' salaries after all.
All this Rafa hate is making this thread as predictable as it was when everyone was blaming Torres. You have the same problems with the balance of the team you've had with AVB, RDM and now Rafa - Torres is still misfiring; and for some reason you just want to pin it all on the manager and forget that the team should be looking at themselves to get results once they're on the pitch and sticking those chances in the back of the net.
You just said you wanted pace and direct running in the team, you didn't mention anything about ball control. Kalou would actually have been useful, he offered width, pace, direct running and a good work ethic. Marin's a better technical player, but Leonardo was a nearly unsurpassed technician and his career fizzled out into nothing.
Rafa says no more tranfers this window. Excellent. I always felt our squad was more than capable anyways. Why waste more money? We are so financially strapped anyways...
we are so light its laughable. just highlights my point even more that the people running the club have no idea how football works!
I'd still rather Marin on than swapping defenders around. Like i keep saying tactically inept. He has one way of playing and one way only. When it works its devestating but them times are few and far between.
No, you're actually just talking bollocks. Marin's *****, so Benitez not playing him is unsurprising. Past that, you only have Torres/Ba as a viable attacking change. It's no wonder Benitez is trying to tinker with the rest of his team when his resources are so rubbish.
As a devotee of tactics and someone who looks at tactics across a range of teams across a range of eras, Rafael Benitez is NOT tactically inept. He pioneered the 4-2-3-1, a tactic that has now taken over the entire footballing world for ****'s sake. His Valencia team were wonderful, well drilled and fluid in attack and his Liverpool team peaked with one of the most devastating sides the Prem has ever seen (albeit for a short period). The difference here is that Rafa is - correctly, as it needs to be employed to win titles - a rotational manager, and at each of the clubs he has excelled in he's actually had more than two viable subs to make.
So can we not have any more bullshit about "hurr durr Rafur cant tacticks" when in fact his tactics are fine, just hamstrung by a huge lack of resources.
EDIT: Oh and, and please, just ******* try and tell me how Rafa can only play one way. Please. Look at Valencia's team and how they played, then Liverpool's, then Chelsea's current side, and tell me the way they played was EXACTLY ******* IDENTICAL.

The rate at which we go through managers. It seems its either Jose Mourinho or the unemployed/unproven for us next summer.
We should honestly swallow our pride and take a good look at either one of David Moyes or Roberto Martinez. Unai Emery is also a good option as always.

Nailed it. If anyone is seriously trying to argue otherwise when it comes for Rafa, then frankly I seriously question if they have actually watched him for the last 10 years.
For example Valencia were more miserly, but at Liverpool they came to score goals
Square pegs in round holes mate, if you have not got the resources then you adapt he is unwilling and unable to do so. Say as much as you like fact is we never played this poorly under Robbie using this formation this season and Robbie had less choices than Rafa as we didn't have Ba!!
I think Rafa has enough idea of how football works... I am willing to bet that he is not being backed too much in the tranfer market because he is only here on interim basis. Totally unacceptable imo.

Some managers don't suit certain jobs regardless of their past and this is one of them situations! Rafa had brilliant success once apon a time but these days he is not good enough fact.
