Quick question who would you guys start this weekend against Sunderland Torres or Ba? Torres could be confident after last night and he scored twice in the away fixture against Sunderland but Ba put in a very good performance on Monday and scored a great goal. I personally would just go for Ba but I wont be overly disappointed if Fernando starts.

Id go for Ba too mate, Torres will definitely play next Thursday and Ba needs games too.

So another 2 assists for Juan Mata yesterday. Add that brilliant assist for Ba's goal vs Manchester United. I decided to go take another look at the stats-

Juan Mata has played 50 games this season. 13 of them he came on as a substitute. In all competitions, he has scored 19 goals. One more than the great Fernando Torres. He has made an outstanding 25 assists in all competitions.

Lets not forget that most of the games he played behind an incompetent striker who might as well not have been there for all the good he did. Had to live through an inevitable managerial change. Had to adapt to a new set of players we brought in this summer.

Best player in the Premiere League this season? I'd certainly think so...

The man is so underrated its actually quite laughable mate. Every time i hear/see a convo about player of the year its always about Bale and Suarez. I am not saying they don't deserve to be talked about because quite clearly they do but Mata does as well and i cannot understand why he isn't being talked about as much as them two.

In the league Mata 23 starts and 4 sub appearances: 10 goals and 10 assists
Rooney : 17 starts and 4 sub appearances: 12 goals and 9 assists and he is having OKish season and both play in the same position. Behind the striker and drop deeper.

You know, even I could have some assists if I played behind RVP.

Except RVP missed easy chances many times and even he admitted it.

Also only Rooney's assist to RVP was against Reading, Rooney's flick which led to one on one chance to make it 4-3.

Except Mata has played way more games than Rooney and in a team not quite as good and is still producing the goods week in and out

Not to mention having to adapt to a new manager midway through the season as well. Look at it as a whole and not just at the league and Mata is among the top 5 players in the world at the moment.

Pfft. It'd be inferior, as proved by the results of this year's competition.

It will fall flat on its **** mate! well i hope so anyway. You can tell the next gen series has got right up their nose.

Yeah JT got booked too lol.

Yeah most of the clubs have said they will stick with it, which is good news.

Mata hasnt had to adapt. He has been playing the same role for 2 years. Still the best player in the Premiership

Not in terms of role. In terms of different culture, environment and trainings that usually come with the arrival of a new manager.

Not as good? I thought you had very good attacking team.

Also Rooney had very stop start season but still up there with anyone in productivity.

Mata's role hasnt fundamentally changed, neither has the enviroment, apart fro it being more hostile to Benitez. He hasnt had to undergo any fundamental shift from Di Matteo to Benitez

Rafa would love to drill the team until their **** fall off, but taking over mid-season, with packed schedule and lack of squad depth he propably changed less than you'd think.

Rumors in Germany saying we're in for Schurrle (again) and are prepared to offer De Bruyne as part of the deal. (Loan, or permanent is unclear)

Manager number 10, come on down.

It seems that three things are almost certain to happen every year in life. The country gets more in debt, the summers feel like they are getting shorter and Chelsea will have a different man in the dugout come August. Just last June I wrote an article on who will be next in the hot seat even though the manager we did have just won a FA Cup and Champions League double. For the people who didn’t read that article I like to see who are the contenders for the job, bookies odds and my personal view on who will get the job.

Jose Mourinho – 1/3:
Bookies, Chelsea fans and media’s hot favourite to come back “home”. Jose has always said he has unfinished business in England and has gone on record to say his next job will be in this country. Whether Real Madrid win the Champions League or not it seems as if Jose will leave them this summer which would make him easier to snap up. Imagine the lift the whole club would get if he were to come back, all horrible past memories of this season would just disappear in minutes. However, I think too much has to happen for him to be able to come back and work with Roman again. Emenalo would have to be sacked; Jose would want full control of team matters and transfers and possibly Lampard given a new contract too. This would also mean Roman admitting that he was wrong, possibly for the first time in his life.

David Moyes – 10/1:
Moyes has done a decent job with a shoestring budget whilst selling off their best assets at Everton for 11 years now so people believe he has earned a shot with a better club. Now to me that doesn’t mean he is a natural fit to manage a club on the other end of the scale in terms of finances but what he does have in abundance is knowledge of the English game and respect among his piers.

Guus Hiddink – 20/1:
A fans favourite thanks to the job he done in the backend of the 08/09 season steering Chelsea to another FA Cup success and losing one game in total in all competitions. Currently manager of Anzhi in Russia and has stated he will retire at the end of the season but may be tempted to have a proper crack at the job. If he is not to return as manager I think a job up stairs would suit him down to the ground with his experience and contacts in the game.

Gianfranco Zola – 20/1:
The link between him and this club does not need to be explained. Has started life to management very well with Watford and they still have a chance to be promoted. I personally would not like to see him get the job, 1. Because he is doing a decent job with Watford and he should build something and 2. His name does not deserve to be chewed up and spat out by this club.

Fabio Capello – 20/1:
Ex England manager currently managing Russia so has some sort of affiliation with Roman already. A disciplinarian who backs his players to the end as we saw with JT but it seems unlikely he will be working in SW6. Has not been managing Russia long and seems in good stead to qualify for the World Cup next year. Also seems willing to fall out with hierarchy to back his players and if that happens at Chelsea you are out the door.

Manuel Pellegrini – 25/1:
Has done brilliantly with Malaga under financial restraints guiding them to a Champions League quarterfinal despite having to sell their best players last summer. A man who has done the rounds especially in Spain and a man who is highly respected worldwide. May want to walk away from the financial mess at Malaga and at 59 may not get another job offer like this.

Gus Poyet – 25/1:
Unfortunately due to a certain incident whilst at Tottenham a lot of Chelsea fans are have an agenda against Gus. He says it was a dig at then Chelsea manager Ranieri for wanting to get rid of Gus but there is no doubt it hurt the fans who loved him. That incident aside he was a fantastic player for Chelsea and seems as if he isn’t too shabby as a manager either. He has helped made Brighton into a steady Championship club whilst playing entertaining football. The only down side is that if he was to get the job he may bring his assistant manager with him who is none other than Mauricio Taricco!

My View:
The thing is this is not as simple as just making a prediction because of certain Champions League circumstances. If we do qualify for the Champions League next season then I think it will be Pellegrini and at 25/1 it’s definitely worth a punt. If we don’t qualify for the Champions League next season then I think Moyes will be on the touchline come August.

Torres scored 18 goals this season? That's not that bad.

You are right it is pretty good and he will more than likely add a few more to his tally before the seasons over but tbh at £50 million the amount of goals he has in the league alone should be around at least 18 along with all his goals in other competitions. 7 league goals in the amount of games he has played just is not good enough its a shame really he started the season really brightly scoring quite regular too and I really thought at this stage he'd be on at least around 14-15 league goals.

Good attacking team? Which world are you living in? No proper striker for most of the season. No player who can offer us proper width. No balance at all in terms of our attacking quartret.

Sorry for thinking Mata, Hazard and Oscar are superb attacking players along with Ramires. I think anything to prove Mata is the best..

Everyone can make these arguments for their teams. No proper midfielder to compliment Carrick (Although CLeverley is learning his trade and Anderson is injured half the time), no proper width because of **** form of our wingers and injury problems to Rooney and Kagawa.

Come on man, nobody is trying to say Mata had it so hard this season, it was like playing barefoot on broken glass. But between United's position in the league, and the massive point advantage, its rather obvious that your team, as a whole , was quite a bit better this season.

I'm a neutral, so as far as e-peen is concerned, I really don't care who FM-base would see as better player. But, I've been simply amazed just how much impact Mata has on Chelsea's game this year.

Just one guy, take him off the pitch, and entire team literally does not exist. Its not something you can often see at this level of football.

It almost reminds me of how France had so many brilliant players, and Zidane would still manage to raise them to whole new level.

Mata's been the best player in England this season, imo. I've been really impressed with Carrick though, he's really stepped up in Scholes' absence.

Bale will win player of the year though :S
