Roman hasn't injected money in a long time, we have "genuine" sponsorship deals and respectable revenue to buy players

Source? We are vaguely sustainable but the idea that we have could easily splash 100m+ in the summer without having to cook our books is ludicrous. AFAIK, at the moment we are not even close to being self sufficient in the eyes of UEFA but we have shown that we are moving towards that goal. There's a massive difference between not being punished under FFP and making a large profit each year, which is what you seem to be implying.

In fact, we've had a single year of profit under Roman. The idea that he isn't propping the club financially is ludicrous (don't mistake as me saying that the club would be insolvent. Other clubs make huge losses and support themselves with loans). It's rather hard to argue that when the last 5 years figures are as follows:
2009 ?45.8
loss
2010 ?69.2
loss
2011 ?70.7
loss
2012 ?1.4 profit
2013 ?49.4 loss

Now, those figures are much better than they were (131m loss in 2005 lol) but they're still far from profits are they not? If you include our most substantial deal of recent times (30m a year from Adidas) we're still losing a lot of money. With everything factored in and factored out (some losses don't count towards FFP, certain wages, using our youth acquisition programme as a money printing machine etc) you could be optimistic and say that we're breaking even. Which is great, except that means you're still not making any actual profit, so how are you going to buy players? You'd need to sell them, as Alc has said.

Thankfully, as I've said many times in this thread, FFP does not require you to make a profit yet, just show a positive trend towards doing so. This means that, with the Mata sale, we can easily go out in the summer and splash ?40m and still be showing progress. If we want Shaw, a ?50m striker and another player though, we will need to sell.

FFS that was terrible defending from Luiz. He is a real talented player but if he doesn't cut out these half-**** mistakes which costs us games, he is never going to have much of a career under Mourinho

Yep. I'm not surprised at all. Being 1 goal up, struggling to kill it off, and eventually losing/drawing the game. This has happened so many times this season...

Disappointing ... Real disappointing. Doubt Luiz will start again for awhile now ...

Listened to the 1st half watched the 2nd half so can't say much really on this game. My personal opinion is that we lost our discipline as a squad as soon as Brana lost his head the whole squad lost their discipline and a goal was coming. That a long side David Luiz trying to effect the man not the ball for the goal, just woeful defending.

Very poor result, definitely not the end of the world but still a very poor result. There is no point beating the top sides if you cannot beat the smaller ones, 4 points dropped against West Ham and West Brom in the past 2 weeks and that is just not good enough.

Eurgh.

Why play for the 1-0 when you had hungry players like Salah and Schurrle on the bench who would have killed for a chance to make it 2?

Bottle it once we reach top of the league once again no surprise. Oh well onto the next game.

Feel sorry for Schurrle. I really really rate him. Don't know what he was thinking going to Chelsea, he must have knew he wouldn't be first choice.

He'd be brilliant for us. No chance with that, mind.

So basically we supposedly generate comparable revenue with RM considering that we can splash 150m without batting an eyelid? I am clearly not well-versed with the FFP but that just seems funny to me ... It's like sugar daddy mania again

Chelsea don't have as much leeway as Subtle suggests, but you do have a lot of leeway, especially if you let a couple go this summer.

That was 2 points needlessly dropped after some great results. City are dangerous enough without you handing back the initiative to them

Typical Chelsea over the years! Win against our title rivals but go and throw it away against a bottom half side. Really hoping your lot can do is a favour against the gooners tomorrow night now too!

Still a young lad and Jose likes him for sure. Will be much better in his 2nd season.

That's what we thought about Mata! Should go in for a punt in the summer.... ya never know! Lol.

Schurrle should be playing as striker...I am puzzled why Jose hasn't tried that yet.

My main concern? The fact we still cannot function properly without an aging JT. Conceded tonight and looked very shaky at the back late on and should have conceded on Saturday when Marveaux and Sissoko both got through one on one.
