David Luiz in mid was fine, he's actually quite good there at times - but playing Terry was a big mistake, I have a feeling that he was Mourinho's sentimental pick.

Ultimately, the better team won - no complaints about our lack of silverware this season, the team's not as good as it used to be. Our 1st team striker/GK are out on loan - I expect much better next season when (if) they're back.

What part of 'not playing retarded lineup" you need explained in more detail?

The specifics. I can say "stop being in debt" in response to the recession: did I fix the problem? If there are so many viable tactics that were much more viable than what we did, then name them. Tell me the lineup, tell me the formation, tell me how we should have played.

oh the money guarantees success thing again

It certainly doesn't in this case!

Mourinho's game plan was carried out successfully. But... was it the right one?

I think not. Sure, Chelsea didn't concede a goal. But the **** will be pouring down Chelsea fans legs every time Atletico attack at the bridge. What a match the return leg will be!

Looks like I called it right a week ago after the first leg.

Mourinho - 2 trophies out of a possible 14 available in the last 4 years. ?272,440,000 spent in that time. Failure.

Specialist in failure?

Certainly if you consider those clubs had the greatest resources and already very experienced squads with top class players, that could certainly be argued as failure.

The Spanish press seem to have picked up on this, calling him the "semifinal one" in today's rag.

So many Chelsea fans were complaining of the lack of any creative edge in the their team last night.

Oh god... it was just a Mata of time you would start to miss him.

Love how fickle football fans are. On Sunday, Mourinho was a genius. Today he's a failure.

If you look at the trends, apparently botth pro active and reactive football are dead. So what exactly are we left with? :D

Truth is: there is no perfect system, each will have its flaw. Both Jose and Pep are so at the extreme ends of their systems than when it doesnt work, its hard to work away from their flaws. Key is to address and adapt a little, and i think Jose will do a better job of that than Pep

And if Chelsea go on to win the premier league this season the same fans calling him a failure will once again say he is the worlds best manager.

Im an lfc fan, i love mourinho, he is an amazing manager, just 1 tactical gamble too far, but that's footy for u, i think next season u should build ur team around the 3 belgians, courtouis lukaku & hazard, give the 2 loanees a chance to shine

I think he's the world's greatest PR manager, but his football, looking at both home and away legs against Atletico could be assembled on a much smaller budget - with long throws, free kicks and fielding a larger, less skilful side - turning the team into a posher version of Stoke, except with the Hazard thrown in and quicker on the break. His real talent is more man management, that ability to instil belief, to create a mentality of rigidity - and knowing which players are good under pressure and they repay him for that trust. Indeed, reportedly at Real he asked for a dossier to be created on all of his players detailing when they go to bed at night, what they eat, how often they socialise.. it's this sense of 'domain'.

Hazard responded after the loss last night than he was frustrated with being the player expected to always open the door for the team, showing how he's frustrated with the team's tactics. This guy is a 32m winger, one of the most talented creative players, being asked to play auxillary fullback for most of the game. This kind of extreme defensive play is what cost Mou his job at Real. Now, whilst Abramovich wants to win trophies, he's already invested 105-odd million this season with seemingly little to show for it, assuming City don't bottle it. I'd expect him to get more time, but it's increasingly clear why he didn't get the Old Trafford job from his actions on and off the pitch this season.

Sure: play a textboox 4-4-2 with players who are in their position and defenders who can actually move around.

tbf Terry has been extremely good for most of the season, just shouldn't have been starting yesterday.

Mug probably lied to the doctors that he's feeling fine. That's the only explanation.

That would be funny if we did actually "park the bus" last night which we didn't. Wish we did to be honest, football is about winning nothing else.

All it does in my eyes is just highlight the fact that money does not guarantee success. All you have to do is look at the money Real have spent since they last won the Champions League to see that. City just 3 major trophies in 6 years only reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League once. Its a myth which fans with smaller budgets want to believe so they have an excuse for their failings.

Well considering we average the most shots per game in the Premier League i'd suggest its more to do with our finishing than anything.

Only if you follow the opinions of the fickle obviously. For me he is the reason Chelsea are still in with a shot of the title all be it 3rd favorite and made the semi final of the champions league.

Wouldn't say either game was down to Mourinho. He plays a system that asks the opponents to really go for it. The game against Liverpool was a perfect example of why playing this way works.. The game last night was a perfect example of why you should never do it.

It's that old cliche, you win some you lose some. The look on Abramovich's face was priceless though, the look of utter embarrassment. Beautiful.

I must say i do enjoy all the hatred coming from other (mainly on twitter and facebook) supporters. Arsenal fans despite forgetting without Chelsea's recent results in Europe the Wenger 4th place trophy would just be a Europa League slot losing the club millions. The Liverpool fans despite not being in this competition for years now and when they will be next season may even be 4th seed if not then will 100% be 3rd seed so lets see how they do back jugging 4 competitions and guaranteed to play 2 top teams in Europe. And then i have some of my Portsmouth supporting mates, yes that's right League 2 Portsmouth! The only club who can be owned by someone who never even existed!

As i always say, keep the hatred, makes it even more sweeter when we do win and we all know we do end up winning.
