Thought he had a good career ahead of him at top level. Always looked class when I watched him.

The problem was that he couldn't really do anything other than pass, which he was very good at for someone his age. He had an intelligence to his play that many senior level professionals a decade older than him lacked.

So, like Alc said, there was a debate over whether or not to turn him into a 6 or a 10. He generally ended being viewed at the former, but he doesn't have the workrate or the physique for it. Even the most slight, technical players like Iniesta are still relatively solid, if not actually strong. Josh has never had that, despite being told by the club repeatedly to bulk up. He is still made of tissue paper, although did grow a beard in a bid to appear more rugged.

What do you do with a player like that? Too easily forced off the ball and not technically brilliant enough to be a 10, not hardworking enough to be a 6. When you're too one dimensional to even be considered a luxury player, you're going to struggle.

It's completely understandable. His early senior career was a complete rollercoaster and I can see how you would get jaded with it very quickly. I don't blame the guy, but he definitely wasn't one of those youth players who was giving their all from the start of their time with us until the end.

Agreed. Although hopefully it appears as we have finally got stability at the top with Mourinho and Emeleano. This should provide the right environment for youth players to develop. So if the likes of RLC, Solanke, Izzy Brown and Bamford fail, they only have themselves to blame

We've been very busy in the loan window today sending Marco Van Ginkel to Stoke, Andreas Christensen to Monchengladbach(most likely spelt wrong) and Izzy Brown and Nathan to Vitesse

DONE DEAL: Josh McEachran has completed his move away from Chelsea, signing a four-year-deal with Brentford.

Such a shame but its all on his head i'm afraid. Pain too much time to his relationship than concentrating on his development. He's one of the players who actually got minutes so puts to bed the argument that "we should give them minutes"

Nathan i suspect mainly because of work permit issues but potentially a good learning chance for Brown. Its good for him to have Lewis Baker over there i hope they can help each other.

Lots of speculation linking us to Pedro. Would be a fantastic signing imo

All the same problems as when we signed Cuadrado in January though. He's a good rotation option and might even be as good as Willian, but we want to strengthen in quality, not just in depth. Someone world class, who can play both out wide and in Oscar's position, should be our main priority.

Pedro would be good squad addition but no better than what you already have imo. You do need a couple of top signings. You were fantastic last season imo, but you cant stand still. Still faves for the league imo, but as you have seen teams are making some good signings already and continue to do so.

De Bruyne who tore up Bundesliga last season? |)

Who is actually available though? Griezzmann is costing stupid money. Ditto Marco Reus. Ditto Raheem Sterling. Isco will never come. I haven't seen us linked with anyone else who fits the criteria of upgrading our playing XI. We are very short on quality depth. Pedro will be a great option to have in this instance. Plus the last player we bought from Barcelona at a cut-rate price turned out brilliantly for us ;)

I think we have done good business so far. Falcao and possibly Begovic are fantastic additions to the squad. I am hoping for a marquee signing like you but I just can't see that happening unless we are willing to pay stupid stupid money which is even more unlikely now that stadium plans have been revealed. We really should be following up our initial interest in Schneiderlin though

The only reason I could see him wanting out of Barca is for more guaranteed games.

Would the situation be any different at Chelsea?

Definitely better than Barcelona. His only competition here would be an inconsistent Willian and Oscar which is miles better than competing with Messi, Neymar and Suarez

I'd happily have Pedro for £21m. However the one rumour that really interests me is Aranguiz. Yes, there might be questions about how he'd adapt to the English game given that he's only played in South America, but he easily adapted to Brazilian football and I think he'd be a great addition to our squad.

We have stupid money though. We have over 100m to spend this season and no reason not to use it. It doesn't matter if they're overpriced, we can easily afford it.

Pedro provides good depth, but only on the flanks. If we sign him, we still need a great player that can go at both AMC and in Fabregas' role.

I don't mind overpaying but we also have to draw a line somewhere especially when someone like Pogba is being touted around for close to £80m and Griezzman for £40m. Absurd prices. Out of curiousity, who do you think we should buy that is available at the moment?
