The Christmas Tree fm 2014 - help required

Hi, i'm having a lot of trouble with this formation. On paper i have quality players in the key positions and to me the tactics good and balanced (though I don't consider myself a quality tactician). But the problem is i'm having a lot of possession, but i'm not scoring goals. Sometimes I don't create and when I do my strikers miss sitters. Adding to that, i'll dominate the game but teams will score one goal and win. Or in extreme cases i'll get slapped 3-0.

Basically i'm playing a christmas tree:

4 at the back with two wing backs.
3 in center mid 2 of them more defence minded (in theory to cover the wing backs)
2 attacking midfielders roaming in the space and linking up play to my big striker
1 Big striker good finisher and good stats

I try to play posession with a deep defence which is compact and frustrates opponents.

so far games have been low scoring but I can't score! HELP!
 
The false 9 will come very deep and you don't have any one willing to run past him.
 
interesting what would be a better role?

Incidentally i've just had a 4-1 win, the false 9 scored 2, he was getting in behind all game... very odd!
 
Aa false 9 is the way to go, but you need to have the two AP pushing into the space he might/will create, a Shadow Striker or Attacking AP, wouldnt go a miss.

at the moment im letting them roam from position because i'm quite narrow.. should they be staying more central
 
Not enough attacking duties, too many support, you're just passing the parcel so to speak.
 
Okay I'm at a loss, Still can't score and now i'm conceeding loads... I don't understand, I have defensive cover, but teams are destroying me on the counter?!
 
Set one defender (the one with highest positioning and pace preferably) to cover duty.
 
How are you conceding the goals? Is it while the opposition use an AMC? Are the opposition lobbing balls over the top or playing through you? I know it changes the shape of your formation and you want the 'christmas tree', but try pulling the 2 BWM's back to DM, maybe with support, and this will still give you that 'christmas tree' shape when they move forward but will just naturally give you more cover. That will also give you more allowance to play your CM in a more attacking role, if you wanted to do that
 
You could also experiment with playing your DC's on 'stopper' as this will close down the space behind your midfield and in front of your defence. Ooorrrr 1 DC on stopper and the other on cover. I've never personally seen the benefit of a defender on cover in game as I've tried it before and they always seem to close down regardless

If you set both your DC's on stopper and they miss their tackles you will leak CCC's like Fulham's sinking ship of 2014.
