The Squad

The Goalkeepers:

1. Kelvin Davis
23. Tommy Forecast
24. Bartosz Bialkowski

The Southampton goalkeepers are nothing short of superb for League 1. Kelvin Davis has been serving the club for a good few years now, and you should look to keep him at the club until he decides to retire. Bartosz Bialkowski is an excellent backup keeper and will fail to let you down whenever you need his services. The only real weak link is Tommy Forecast; but for a third choice keeper, you can't really complain.

Recommended Transfers:

<== Tommy Forecast @ £1,000

The Defenders:

2. Frazer Richardson
3. Dan Harding
5. Ryan Dickson
6. Jose Fonte
12. Danny Butterfield
15. Radhi Jaidi
17. Aaron Martin
18. Joseph Mills
19. Danny Seaborne

The defenders at The Saints are all top quality for the season ahead. Jose Fonte is a must keep, and although you will have top flight teams after his services, you should aim to keep him at all costs. The other centre back choices are a bit dodgy each in their own right, and so you should be looking to bring in someone to cover that position with Jose Fonte. The left back position is covered very well, so there is no need for change there. The right back position can be a little shaky, so it is recommended that you bring in a first team regular for this position.

Recommended Transfers:

<== Danny Butterfield @ £60,000
<== Radhi Jaidi @ £0
<== Aaron Martin @ £2,500
<== Joseph Mills @ Loan
==> Kenny Pavey @ £65,000 or Marvin Esor @ £70,000
==> Andrew Davies @ Loan

The Midfielders:

4. Morgan Schneiderlin
10. Jason Puncheon
11. Guly Do Prado (on loan)
14. Dean Hammond
16. Paul Wotton
20. Adam Lallana
21. Lee Holmes
26. Alex Chamberlain
27. Oscar Gobern
28. Callum McNish
36. Anthony Pulis

The midfield area at Southampton is a little small. Guly Do Prado will leave for Cesena in January, so wingers are a bit of a rarity, and therefore should be your top priority in the transfer window. The central midfield area is covered well though, however can be changed if you feel better players are needed.

Recommended Transfers:

<== Dean Hammond @ £80,000
<== Oscar Gobern @ Loan
<== Callum McNish @ Loan
<== Lee Holmes @ £7,000
<== Paul Wotton @ £5,000
<== Anthony Pulis @ £1,000
==> Gai Assulin @ £0
==> Gavin McCann @ £0
==> Mobi Okoli @ £4,000 or Kevin Nicol @ £14,000
==> Olivier Kapo @ £0

The Strikers:

7. Rickie Lambert
9. Lee Barnard
22. David Connolly
29. Ryan Doble

The striking force at Southampton is more than good enough for League 1. Rickie Lambert is your primary striker, and although you may recieve some interest from higher division clubs, you should try your best to keep him at The Saints. Barnard and Connolly are both quality players and can be switched around depending on which you prefer. The youngest of the bunch is Doble, and you should look to give him to some first-hand experience of playing straight away, whether you want to play him as rotation for your team, or loan him out. There is really no need for improvement, but if you really feel like you need an extra forward, then see below.

Recommended Transfers:

<== Ryan Doble @ Loan
==> George Mourad @ £120,000 or Wesley Ngo-Baheng @ £0

The Staff

The staff are all very good for League 1. However when you achieve promotion you should look to hire some new staff. Check out the Backroom Advice screen for good tips on who you should be recruiting.

The Tactic

This is a simple 4-4-2 formation with a very attacking mentality. This should help you get promoted very easily, although it is suggested you use a more defensive version of this tactic when playing against the stronger teams in the league.

I hope you found my guide useful! :)

Excellent! He is scoring, assisting; you name it, he does it. He has an average rating of 7.68 for me at the moment :)

What about Paulo Pezzolano and Klemen Lavric. They are cracking players especially for Saints.

Wow, so many good guides here but no Arsenal guide!! Where did all the Arsenal fans went?

I've seen that before, that's not a guide. Its more of a database where you are playing Arsenal the real deal.

I used them as my mate gets to be Leeds.
Franck Songo, Adriano Basso, Yago Yao, Yassin Mouatoukill are all very good free transfers.
Currently fourth in the championship, only lost 1 home game in the league across both seasons. A 2-3 to West ham with a stoppage time winner :(

Pretty good guide you have assembled there, but I'll have to disagree with you a bit. Personally, I thought Southampton's goalies were trash - I signed Adriano Basso on a free the first day of the season, he was scouted at 4 1/2 stars and he played absolutely phenomenally even at the Championship level. Also try to get Calum Davenport on a free after he recovers from his injury, absolutely amazing player. Also, at least for me, Morgan Schneiderlin has turned into an absolute beast, still dominating even in the Premier League. The only player I've kept in my Starting XI in the EPL.

Here are some of my credentials:

How is Alex chamberlain doing for all of you? And Schneiderlin pwns. You should keep Butterfield and sell Richardson they are about the same. But Richardson was **** for me.

I think Richardson is better than old Butters, and younger. Richardson is better in real life too! :D Alex Chamberlain is doing superbly for me. He is my starting MR/AMR. He is phenominal! He is easily good enough for the prem at a more mature age. If you ever saw him in real life, then you would agree with me that he is already better than Theo Walcott (another of our youths). Liverpool scouts were down again yesterday, at St Mary's, and he played very, very well for us again. Chairman has already said that Alex is not going anywhere in January though! :)

assulin keeps failing the medical, how do i turn this around ?

get Leigh Griffiths, he's amazing in League 2, 1 and Championship. I've had him in all divisions.

I would agree with signing leigh griffiths, quality player. I would say that in my opinion david connoly is good for league 1 but if you go up then he might struggle, also for me his physical stats have dropped for me so he struggles to play mire than 60-70 mins.
I agree with you on paul wotton, anthony pulis and lee holmes as all three arent much use and are worth cashing in on.
Good guide :D
