SHOCK AS ENIC SELL TOTTENHAM TO SUPPORTERS TRUST

In a surprising turn of events at White Hart Lane the majority owner of the club, Joe Lewis, head of ENIC Group, has struck a deal to sell the club to the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust. Chairman Daniel Levy has announced he will be leaving the club.

A statement from ENIC said:

'It was never our intention to take hold of the club on a permanent basis. Our mission was to stabilise the club and make it grow and become a serious contender in English football for the indefinite future. We are pleased that, having, we believe, achieved this, we can now hand the club over to those who we know have a vested interest in its continuing success as fans.'

'Despite the increased criticism of our tenure as owners of the club, we hope that this will secure our legacy as a company of people that genuinely cared for the future of this club.'

Chairman Daniel Levy and ENIC had been under increasing pressure by incensed fans after proposed stadium moves to Wembley, the Olympic Stadium in Stratford and even a short stay at Stadium:MK in Milton Keynes, far away from the club's traditional home in Tottenham. The perpetual sacking of managers after only a short time at the club, the lack of silverware, the sensational transfer flops (David Bentley, Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela to name a few) and an exponential rise in ticket prices (leading to Tottenham having the highest Season ticket prices, per game, in the country) were just a few in a long list of grievances the fans held with ENIC and Daniel Levy.

As such, the Supporters Trust swelled in membership and the scale of opposition to Levy and ENIC was made clear in a series of well attended protests on the High Road last season. Its even alleged that, this summer, an arson attack on the ticket office was planned in protest against the Chairman, only the petrol bombs missed and hit a steel company warehouse adjacent to the stadium, leading to a serious fire which is being investigated.

Under such pressure ENIC has clearly decided to cut their losses and give in to the fans of this historic club, who will be celebrating in the streets of Tottenham tonight.

It is understood that THST will convene all its members to elect a chairman and other representatives to the Club Board in the near future and, until that moment, declined to comment on the matter, other than a short statement, saying:

'This is a great day for the fans and a great day for the football club. We hope that we can inspire other clubs to take the same measures and make football the fair and reputable game it once was.'

Tottenham Supporters Trust announce Chairwoman Katrina Law and Plans for the future

After a frantic few weeks for Tottenham's Supporters Trust having completed the purchase of the club, they have announced that after a series of elections they have chosen Katrina Law to lead the club for the next 5 years. Law has been on the board of the trust since March 2013 and the decision by the Trust members was almost totally unanimous.

'At this momentous moment for the fans and the club we need to pull together and make sure this club continues moving forward and is the most successful it can be.' The new Chairwoman stated in today's press release.

'It is a special feeling to be able to run the club you love and I am beyond grateful for the opportunity I have been given.'

She then moved on to say that there is expected to be immediate changes at the club, from top to bottom, and that without the funding supplied by ENIC many players would have to be sold to balance the budget. Ticket prices will be reduced in order to make attending games more affordable to fans and the new stadium project, so imperative to ENIC is to be shelved and possibly scrapped with redeveloping White Hart Lane a preferred option.

'Needless to say, this is a time of great upheaval at the club, but we hope we can steady the ship as soon as possible and get this club back where it belongs at the top of the English system whilst also respecting our long-serving fans at the same time'.

According to Sky sources, new manager Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly 'highly concerned' by these new developments, specifically regarding the sale of players and balancing of the budget and is prepared to quit his post if not given the right assurances.

Franco Baldini has also left the club and his role as director of football.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has walked away from his job at Tottenham after recent talks with the newly formed board. It is understood that he wanted reassurances that his best players would not be sold, something that has evidently not been guaranteed.

A club statement read: 'We are sorry to announce the department of Mauricio Pochettino and his backroom staff from the club. We wish him all the best for the future.'

It is rumoured that, in order to balance the books, the new regime are willing to offer cut-price deals on many of the perceived 'flops' of the previous summers spending spree such as Roberto Soldado, Paulinho and Erik Lamela as well as pantomime villain Emmanuel Adebayor.

While the club are willing to fight to keep stars such as Christian Eriksen and Hugo Lloris, they do admit they will have to sell if the right bid comes in.
