Pre-season, signings and results…

It’s quite clear what the aims are this season, the arrival of Ademilson and Paredes vocalised the ambition of the club, soon even more deadwood were to be shown the door, the likes of Etherington, Situ, Kwak Tae-Hwi, Donnelly, Jones, Davies and Routledge now all gone, this would see a chance to employ a new era in the clubs history, a chance to rebuild. Unlike before at Norwich experienced heads will be held onto, Britton and Hernandez both asked to leave but will not be let go. Having said all that the targets of choice were all of a youthful age. Phojo a young right back from Monaco comes in on loan to provide back up to Rangel, now 31. Mbaye Niang on loan from Milan adds to an already strong front line of Ademilson and Graham, not to mention more experienced striker Acquafresca signing on a free, the attack is showing a more Latin vibe. Will Hughes and Simao rejoin myself after moving from Norwich for £4m and £1m, both rejected from Bruce’s Norwich side and allowed leave. Another Italian joined after being released by his former club Genoa, Mattia Perin, just as well as the young goalkeeper will come in while Michael Vorm, injured in pre-season just before the kick off to the new season, Vorm faces up to 3 months sidelined with a hip injury. Boyata joins on loan from Man City, £18k per month will be the fee, a permanent deal can be made for £1.4m. And the last new signing was the reason Routledge was allowed join Watford for £1.7m, Gael Kakuta for £1.3m his replacement from Chelsea, Kakuta probably best known for his transfer to Chelsea from RC Lens which lead to tapping up controversy.

Fresh start for Kakuta
Pre-season went well as the favoured 4411 was ditched for a 433, the side does seem to be struggling to score but are holding the ball very well and therefore controlling the games, in the final third the front three are not combining as desired. The season kicked of with a derby game, the South Whales derby versus Cardiff in Cardiff. Whittingham put Cardiff ahead after just 4 minutes, the game was a furious affair with plenty of bookings, the occasion got to the Welsh full back Neil Taylor who was shown red after a second yellow, it got worse for Swansea as Ki Sung-Yeung and Pablo Hernandez came off the field on stretchers, both would miss several weeks of action due to the injuries sustained. Ademilson grabbed his first goal and Swansea’s first point of the league campaign in a game that cost them more than just two pints dropped. The next four fixtures would see consecutive 1-0 victories for the Swans, However not to win by more against Yeovil in the League Cup was disappointing, but winning 1-0 is hardly a bad habit, Hughes and Niang picking up their first goals for the club during the run of form.

First of many one hopes
The victory in the League Cup 2nd round resulted in an interesting 3rd round tie, Norwich City away, a return to Carrow Road, a spicy occasion and a must win on a personal level. The last game saw Swansea travelling to take on Chalton, goals in both halves from Ki Sung-Yeung saw his side go 2-0, with ten minutes left, a comfortable lead and control of the game, changes were made to the marking system as I looked to experiment, It back fired, two late goals from Charlton made it 2-2 much to my embarrassment. Sitting in 5th in the table after five games, not bad, unbeaten, not bad, but should be 1st I feel, two dropped points against Cardiff was understandable but the game at Charlton they were needlessly thrown away. The side look good in all areas bar attack, the lone striker is failing to get in scoring positions, Kakuta is aimlessly giving away the ball by shooting from all angles wasting possession, big names will return soon and over time the attack will be sorted out. It looks like a potentially good season for the Swans and a return could be on the cards first time of asking, well it need be if I don’t want to be stuck in the job center again. Thanks for reading, on another note, the German, French and Belgian leagues have been added incase of another sacking, please like, rate and comment.
