40m is good for Sterling still but the question remains, who the **** are you going to replace him with? You've now lost your 3 key players in 2 seasons? Gerrard, Suarez, Sterling.

If truth be told, the 2 key players to what Rodgers does that have been lost are Suarez and Sturridge.

Gerrard was gone on the field at this level a year back in all honesty. Games have more or less been completely passing him by. Yeah, he got double digit goals all told last term. But he was no influence and anonymous the majority of games. Where his loss will be felt is his presence and leadership in the dressing room. But that's a separate issue. As was Raheem for much of last season so he's not half as big a loss as will be made out. He was a regular, but he shouldn't of been on his form.

Time for Lallana and Markovic to step up wide with Ibe getting more games in his development. Maybe even Fermino gets pushed wider coming in. Or maybe we sign a direct replacement.

But don't be fooled into thinking it collapses if Sterling isn't there.

It doesn't.

I think that if Ibe and Markovic get chances in their preferred roles then they can offer something like what Sterling did, and hopefully with a better end product. Totally agree with Scouseinthehouse that Suarez and Sturridge have been the two key losses, though the influence of Gerrard is obviously a big factor. We did seem to play better without him at times though so hopefully we can do so this season. Sterling may be missed for a while but it's not a loss which we can't recover from without a huge struggle, and if the 40m is invested in a quality striker who suits the system, then we're away. Suarez and Sturridge were much more telling blows.

Benteke :)

Firmino already replaces Sterling in the starting eleven

Will now be interesting how we use the money to strengthen from last year

Benteke and another signing and I'll be delighted with the window

I personally don't rate him and think he's totally wrong for us, but, and this is the KEY 'but', they do. And if the manager truly believes he's his man, stop stalling and pay the money. We wanted Sterling to play with him so the Sterling money isn't an issue. Go get him. Then go take the Sterling money and go to Dortmund or whomever for a World class addition and round off an excellent window.

Raheem Sterling. The most expensive English player of all time and the third most expensive player in Premier League history. Just outside the top 10 most expensive transfers of all time.

For a 20 year old kid that's done absolutely nothing in the game and is nowhere near the finished product.

Tells you all you need to know about the modern game.

Beyond crazy.

Im truly staggered! What if he does not develop or flops big time. Even if not if the 200k a week wage is true. What will his next contract be like :O

He's at a crossroads. He either looks at the truly World class players around him and just how hard they work, and takes from that and knuckles down, shuts the f-up completely (sacking his agent would be a good start there), listen's to his manager and truly dedicates himself to his craft to realise his potential.

Or he continues as he has to date being the jumped up, arrogant lil' ***** who thinks he's the bees knees already and his career will peter out to nothing. (Which surely the likes of Augero will pull him down a peg or two if he goes in with his current attitude.) And if he ***** all over another manager who seems a real nice, genuine guy then his reputation will be well and truly beyond repair.

But f him. He's thankfully no longer our problem and will no longer be disgracing my club any more.

Fantastic stuff.

We can now all move on and begin the process to replace him. Hopefully we have learnt lessons from The past
