Take away the Europa League I have no doubt we'd of finished the top 4 last year. We finished 6 points outside of 4th and we basically tanked the last 5 games in view of the Europa League playing the under 5's every other game.

So yeah, with no Europe this year allied to that, if there wasn't a serious challenge I'd be disappointed. We've seen first hand how much better they are when Klopp has longer to prepare for games and work with them longer on the training pitch. Having full weeks between games should make a heck of a difference too in that regard.

I suppose everyone has their own expectation... I was assuming the league was going to be tougher this year but having seen the signings so far, it may well not be. Still very early days though, I mean it's easy to forget that we're just two days officially into the transfer window. There has been a lot of business already when you look at it that way.

Yes but the league is not the same as last season either. United have just gotten heck of a lot stronger with Mourinho and their player signings. City will also be much stronger with Pep. Tottenham should also go from strength to strength under Pochettino. Arsenal will be Arsenal and do their thing. And despite your reservations, Chelsea also do not have European football and should do much better than last season.

Plus as we all know, you can never discount any of the 'smaller' teams giving the big boys a run for their money!

No question. But I don't see L'pool as not being right in that first paragraph.

And it's a LONG time since I've realistically felt that way with genuine confidence.

Sorry, obviously that didn't come across right. I neither expect to have been competing for big names such as Gundogan, nor am I in distress that we didn't sign him. Not bothered by it at all really because it was never realistic.

What I mean is that with our rivals signing players such as these, they're improving immediately. I'm all for long term development and patience myself, but not everybody is, and that may include players. It's what happened at Dortmund, and still happens at Dortmund (Mkhitaryan, Gundogan), and sure, we have more resources than Dortmund, but if our best players want to up and leave before the rest of the team catches up to them, then we can easily get stuck in a loop.

I have no doubt we will be a far better side this coming season, but I'm sure the other big teams will be too. And as for my view on Klopp's transfer policy? If he wants a player, FSG need to get it done.

It's just somewhat intimidating to think of Mkhitaryan and Zlatan going up against Moreno.

Of course we're in that discussion too. But there are so many elite managers, and somebody has to fail

But conversely you can only go on the business we've done thus far and thus far we've immediately improved our team in three key positions. Two of which two other major clubs, Munich and Utd, went in for heavily the last year.

Zielinski, who Marshall has issues with, my or may not come in but he'll just add to being a better player in the rotation. What we've done has, bar them not taking to the rigours of the English game which is the same for anyone coming in, a Zlatan or whomever, on the face of it immediately upgraded to a good quality that fits what we do.

Again, I'm sure there's lots of other managers and clubs, not least at the top end, viewing LFC with the same worry.

Which all things being equal could just as easily be a Pep or Conte with no experience of the English game, and big rebuilding jobs themselves both in personnel and changing the style of play ingrained currently at their respective clubs. And to a lesser degree Mourinho in terms of the latter. Although I'd view Utd as more of a challenge than the other two.

We have a years start on that.

Of course it could! There are arguments both ways for every single manager/club. That's why it's so unpredictable :)

I cannot speak for City but I am not sure how long you will keep going on about this rebuilding job at Chelsea. Everytime you say that, someone presents a counter-argument which you ignore and then repeat the same point a few weeks later.

Also seeing how Klopp seamlessly adapted to English football with no pre-season, the smart money will be on Pep (superior manager) and Conte (equal quality manager) doing the same especially as they will have a full pre-season to boot.

'Someone' being yourself. ;). You think you've a solid squad. I disagree. Is what it is.

The last part I'll leave and smile to save another go-around.

Tbf I think Chelsea do have a solid squad, one of the best keepers in the league, great wide players in Hazard and Willian who improved vastly last year and one of the best creative midfielders around in Cesc and with Batshuayi (spelling) coming in too that addresses striker issues if he settles. The problem for chelsea is that the spine needs work, a centre back is needed and someone for the pivot which if we are all being honest is an area they needed to strengthen for a while. These two signings need to be of first team quality, they make them signings they'll be in the mix they don't then they won't is how I see it.

Looks like Udinese plan to rip you off as much as they can for Zielinksi they rejected a bid from Liverpool for just under £9.6 million but, accepted one from Napoli at the same price. Probably not the first time it will happen with the new tv deal

Yup, reading the latest on that this morning. Their problem is Zielinski doesn't want to go anywhere but Anfield.

But the one thing I am safe in the knowledge is we won't over pay outside of what Klopp deem's an acceptable fee. Nor will we buy just for the sake of it. Those day are LONG gone. So if they keep pushing it, we'll have our cut off then we'll just move on to the next one on the list.

just seen on twitter what watford and udinese have the same owners and are holding out for more money so they get the money back of the sinclair deal

Can still not played a single second this tourney. Can see him going the Olympics now sadly.

And get Hector the **** signed up already! He even scores peno shoot-out winners and we excel at them! He's beyond perfect!

Sheyi Ojo has been called up by England for the UEFA U-19 Championships in Germany this month. (M. 11- Su. 24.).

With England's last group game the 18th, that rules him out of the first four domestic friendlies.

Not sure whether he'll be allowed time off after or whether he'll join up with the rest of the squad for the US training camp.

Very good experience for him regardless in his continued development.
