What does everyone think about our defensive-midfield position at the moment - do we need to strengthen? Should we play Gerrard, Allen or Lucas there?

I personally think we should strengthen with a solid defensive-midfielder, hopefully Wanyama if Southampton are actually in-crisis, who specialises in tackling. Then, we should play Henderson/Gerrard to partner him, with Su?rez - Coutinho - Sterling as the front three in front of them. Lucas and Allen are decent players, and are current probably the best we've got in the position, but I really don't think they're good enough.

I think Lucas is fine there, but as the game goes on Gerrard get's more tired and gaps open. Still not convinced by Allen.

Shocking decision to bench Lucas. This is starting to get stupid

I know he wants to get Suarez and Sturridge perfectly together, but the whole midfield is being sacrificed because of it... Rodgers needs to change it

Banking on Suarez to show his class and conjure some magic in the second half

Well done Suarez. Wasn't even touched *slow golf clap*

He was definitely looking for it. Don't think there was contact though. Any other striker would do the same thing there. He deserved a penalty after the flying elbow and dead leg he received.

Suarez gets the same treatment that Torres got when he was at his prime with us a few years ago. Just gets the **** kicked out of him every game.

Cissokho and Allen need to just go. Coutinho had a shocker too. Johnson had the same old mind-set of "i'll stick my foot out and hopefully block it" all game. Really impressed with Raheem, thought he did well against a tough Villa side. That Sylvas a dirty little rat.

Grant Holt has the turning of a parked bus. If Villa had brought on a more similar player to Agbonlahor they'd have scored another.

Sterling played really well, only one today who I thought contributed far more than he hindered. Cissokho is one of the worst players we've had in some time. He's so useless.

Don't know why Villa took off Al Ahmadi or whatever his name is, he was doing really well, Sylla didn't.

Ain't many players around with Gabby's pace! Thought Holt did alright despite his lack of agility. That piece of skill in the area was lovely.

El Ahmadi looked a little tired and I think Lambert wanted to protect the point. Sylla's a lot more defensive.

It's a dive, but yes every single forward who do the same, and tbh most of the time the keeper will clean them out. Guzan does really well to pull his hands away, but unfortunately ref cant see the reverse angle.

Apparently Lucas could "face a lengthy period on the sidelines". If this is true and he is out for 4+ weeks, we really need to get a new DM (we need one even if he isn't injured). Saturday proved just how vital he is to the team, and also how he brings out the best in Gerrard. There is no doubting Gerrard is an amazing DLP, his range of passing in spectacular. Defensively however....he is not great. Of we play Gerrard alone in that role, we will get destroyed in midfield.

He is to hoping we sign a new DM. And Salah
