His passing percentage is lesser than Smalling and Smalling plays around 1.3 times more long balls than Sakho. Any professional player can pass 5 yards simple pass or even 20-25 yards long ball accurately when given time. It's how they pass and retain possession when pressed matters.

and sakho ***** all over smalling as a defender

I'd say that's more a reflection of how the two teams play. It speaks volumes when Rojo's completed more long balls per game than Steven Gerrard, Cesc Fabregas and even some goalkeepers like Howard and Woj. United often play a reasonably direct style, and their centre-backs, for all their myriad faults, are actually generally pretty good on the ball. I mean Paddy McNair is probably the worst and he's not that bad at all.

Sakho isn't bad on the ball, really. He's certainly not as bad as everyone's making him out to be.

Maybe not ***** all over. He is better, though.

.

Switch of play is considered as long pass by Opta and whoscored rating, so I wouldn't care much about those stats.

If you're judging passing ability on how a pass is categorized for stats then you don't get the bigger picture.

Would you not call that a long ball? I probably would. Then again I remember Matt Lawrence trying them, so perhaps I have a warped sense of how difficult it is to achieve. Matty boy certainly made it seem impossible...

Depends. For example, Ferdinand hitting aimless long ball to wings is a long ball but players like Carrick and Scholes plays is amazingly well to switch the phase of the game. It's not long ball that likes of Stoke and West Ham played in previous seasons but as per stat both passes are same.

Another example is GK playing pass to Full back who is in acres of pass is same as GK just hitting the ball to the center of the pitch as per these stats. So Long passes, passing %, Cross completion % are some of the stats I don't give much importance to.

I think we can say Sakho has a good pass on him and leave it at that. Don't need a stat book to see it.

What are you talking about, does Cesc play at CB like Carrick and Can and look uncomfetable there as that's the point I was making.

I got from your post that you were saying players like Carrick will be able to pass through Can. Perhaps I mis-read it.

Seems as though Cuadrado is heading to Chelsea with Salah and Schurrle available - I certainly would take Schurrle for the right price!

Yeah I think Schurrle is quality don't know why there are reports that he's a reject like!

Bit like they did with De Bruyne never know why they got rid. Reports in Germany are that Wolfsberg are Schurlle favourites, and we have made contacts with De Bruynes agent and club.

Very friendly atmosphere around anfield last night. I went in this bit across from the away end last night where they had music playing and food/drink was being sold which was mixed with both home and away fans which was good to see. Looking forward to my next visit to anfield next season.

Yeah the mixed zone is quite a good addition to Anfield - how things should be

Yeah, i read similar - Wolfsburg would be a decent move for him was he to leave

I think they'd compliment each other very well. Lacazette alongside Sturridge, with Sterling in just behind could be the forming of SLS ;)

At this moment in time i wouldn't drop Coutinho for anybody - if he gets consistency to his game which he has shown in the last few weeks he can genuinely be world class
