I completely understand fan 'banter' and rivalries with songs although the Gerrard slip is the most hypocritical thing going.

The fact that the slip didn't help them in the league and City won it anyway AND that their own captain slipped to directly cost them winning the Champions League not that long ago - its baffling

Its a lot to do with how Liverpool were portrayed last season. Nearly every media outlet you saw was romanticizing Liverpool and spurring them on to win the title and this 'media darlings' attitude did get annoying to see for opposing fans. So to see Liverpool lose the title after a slip by their iconic player was hilarious tbh in the context of things at the time

But I agree, it is getting old now and Gerrard is a fantastic player who deserves to be respected

My bad have posted before reading back the topic + tapatalk doesn't let me edit it.

**** me, you guys take supporting football clubs far too seriously. The whole point is that it's illogically tribal; don't try and over-intellectualise it.

This thread and intellectual really don't go together

The media did it because it was something new - a team who only had history 'coming back' so to speak on a portion of the budget to the likes of Chelsea and City

It just wasn't to be!

This thread and intellectual really don't go together

This thread is the same as any dedicated to a club - some sensible debates and some moronic comments

1. Haha I can understand that but it did get frustrating at the time when literally everywhere, it was Liverpool Liverpool Liverpool. Hence the ecstasy when the title slipped from your grasp

2. Even during sensible debates, intellectual really can't be used to describe any thread on here. I mean we are discussing about soccer lol

The best fun is when people mix the two and start to overanalyze tribalism. Football and rational arguments don't go well together. E.g. I've absolutely despised Bayern for decades, and I have absolutely no idea why. I don't comprehend it, but I just failed to talk myself out of it.

The absurdity of it all is what makes banter engaging, because we all end up forcing ourselves to come up with flawed rationalizations for our nonsensical biases. And the other people will call you on it, every time.

Is that why you're always commenting in it?

Lol I didn't mean it as an insult at all ... We discuss soccer in this thread. Discussion which will always be filled with bias and irrationality as long as you have fans who are emotionally invested in their teams participating. What kind of 'intellectual' discussions do you wish to have on the subject?

Nonetheless, this thread has exemplified this more than others in recent days what with how Chelsea supposedly spend millions to keep squad players out of Liverpools hands and all

Some of Emre Can stats from the other day when he had 'a night to forget' apparently

Tactics, coaching methods, transfers, formations etc are all intellectual matters. There's plenty to think about in the game, which is why so many people have found it so stimulating for so long. You do football a great disservice if you conflate emotional aspects of support into the intellectual issues at the heart of the game.

He is usually spot on but im quite surprised by this one - the games all about opinions but i just can see this one at all

he ripped into can, ripped into couthino, ripped into sakho, ripped into lovern (which i did agree with), the way he went on about gerrard leaveing and never shut up about the club, i think he is bitter about the way he left
