We sign a really good player and you're all still moaning about Rodgers, give it a ******* rest lads!

Next season is a new season, and if you're all going to give the players another chance, then give the manager one too.

If he doesn't do it next season he's going to get binned off anyway, but for now he's our manager and we need to stick by him.

what formation you reckon he would use?

I mentioned on the previous page, the two I think it could be:

Mignolet
Can - Skrtel - Sakho
Clyne? Moreno
Milner - Hendo
Firmino - Cout
Sturridge

or

Mignolet
Clyne? - Skrtel - Sakho - Moreno
Can
Hendo - Coutinho
Firmino
Sturridge - Bacca (New ST)

Obviously both have a few question marks.. Can's position, inclusion of Milner etc

Even with that second formation, Firmino could play as the second striker, which would allow Coutinho to play the number 10, and Milner to partner Hendo. Thing is, Balotelli could have played that second striker role and it didn't happen, so I'm not convinced we will see that formation

Gotta' nark Utd that another strong target has gone and this time to their major rivals.

Unless it's now getting spun they weren't ever really interested in him to begin with. ;)

Sounds a lot better financially £ 21 million now. And Phil will be happy.

Be interesting to see where Rodgers looks to play them.

When he was linked with ManUtd, most people's reaction was WTF, another 10 that we don't need.

Good signing for Liverpool though, wouldn't have been for United as we are pretty stacked in attacking dept and with signing of Depay it's improved.

Btw, ManUtd were not interested, it was City who were linked with him (and that's the reason many were surprised when he was linked out of nowhere) for long time and for some reason they didn't go for him, maybe Sterling is looking very likely for them.

I just dont think Balotelli was rated by Rodgers.. It was a common formation with Sturridge/Suarez so hopefully happens again

EDIT: Also could have been because Balotelli just doesn't press the defence

That's what I'm hoping. I don't blame Rodgers for not rating Balotelli, I wasn't happy when we signed him either, but I do think he should have been given more of a chance, considering there were periods where nothing else was working. Feels in a way like a missed opportunity, if he'd fired early we might not be as worried about our strikers as we are now

EDIT: Yeah no question he was too lazy, that's why I couldn't understand the signing in the first place. Totally unsuited to our style. But this has been covered ad nauseam, no need to go over this again!

He's a quality addition no doubt but it concerns me where Rodgers will fit them in. The best option would be to have him out the left with Phil in the 10 role (and them being interchangeable), with Can and Henderson sat (not Henderson's best role but the best way he fits), and Milner or Lallana on the right for me looking at the personnel. With currently Ings up front.

Certainly a lot better than what we finished with but still someways short of the top 4 with the defence and 'keeper.

I would prefer

Mig
RB-Skrtel-Sakho-Moreno
Can
Hendo-Milner
Coutinho
Sturridge-Firmino

Yeah, can't see any way Mario is here to start the season when the manger neither wants him nor has any intention of playing to his strengths and trying to accommodate him.

If we keep him and have him in the background as just another body like last season that's a ridiculously stupid and expensive exercise.

I think a regular defence of Clyne, Skrtel, Sakho, Moreno is not bad at all.... Individual mistakes were our downfall last year but in terms of numbers we weren't as bad as people believe

Sakho being in and out of the side didn't help and with the addition of a steady RB it will make a huge difference

All that being said, I still dont know how we can get into that top 4 regardless

Clyne would be a big step in the right direction if we'd just pay the darn money.

But there's still too many holes at the back for me with that group. Three of the 5 wouldn't ideally be starting.

But unless there's some good sales, the money isn't there to do too much more so it is what it is for next year at least.

Apparently...

Initial fee: £22m. + £4m if LFC qualify for CL this or next season. + £3m if/when Firmino makes 100 appearances. Total: £29m.

.....

With yet more heavy investment from Boston, Rodgers sure as **** better get the club back in the Champions League or he won't get the chance again.

But the others clubs are already ahead of us and will be spending more this summer. I do feel the role as Liverpool manager is a poisoned chalice. Huge expectations that are quite hard to achieve for any manager

We can go around all day on that which then becomes subjective and never ending as we both disagree and can put compelling cases up either way; but I have to pull that one ..... one game away from winning the league in 2010/11?

Yes if we had beaten United at Old Trafford, we would have been top of the table with 3-4 games left in the season. Hernandez scored a goal in the 1st minute and we ended up losing 2-1

Point is that we were still far more competitive than Liverpool when Torres joined in terms of ability to win trophies

Nature of the job. You know exactly what you're taking on.

We have NO divine right to expect to win anything. Even given we're one of Englands major two clubs and one of the biggest World wide. But what that history does give us a right to expect, along with Utd fans, is to be challenging year-on-year for the top 4 at the least.

If you can't handle that, then it's the wrong job for you as that's the nature of the club.

But honestly, there's not that much difference as I type between 4th through 6th last year. All three are in a mess at the back and De Gea, last years difference maker, is another big leveller. All three have the perpencity to f-up anywhere. As **** poor as we were last year, there was no excuse for missing out so badly on the top 4.

Right, but that's a little different from saying Chelsea where one game away from winning it. Semantics and all that.

And again, it's all about perception. The season he joined, when we lost the crazy Moscow semi to you, had we won that would of been the clubs third Champions League final in 4 years. He finished runner up his second season. And even when it went to **** Benitez' last year there was still another European semi. All the while going through the ownership changes and off-field carnage. Then you have new owners, who instantly set the marker down with a new manager, lifting everyones mood, and a major signing to partner him up front. Who knows where it would all of rolled if he'd given Kenny time and gone into a partnership with Suarez? ****, the year after we won one domestic cup and should of won the other. Ironically against Chelsea.

There wasn't that great a difference in the two clubs at the time all things considered and the bump in money certainly played a big part in his move.

But he's thankfully neither of our problems now.
