Love this, also its not really anti-football or any such nonsense. There was a shift in tactical thinking in early 2000'a that counter attack and defensive shape was king and that the art of passing the ball was going to die out and that players should be athletes more than technicians.

England and Brazil both bet heavily on this with youth football hence why you see so many all rounders in the CM rather than ball players for England and why Brazil are really ****** if Lucas Lima does not be the DLP they really really need.

edit, oh and it was also thought at that time the team that concedes the most free kicks actually had the better chance of winning the game, as you broke up the opposition attacks and had time to reset yourselves defensively.

So to say it is dark ages or whatever is a myth and is some media concocted bullshit.

Nah. The media for some reason revel in the fella'. Presumably because he's English and relishes the 'underdog' tag so is deemed to be some pseudo British hero as we're all supposed to be fighting warriors.

I'm just thankful that his brand of archaic football (and he's about the worst around. 9 behind the ball. Pack the side with big men. Launch it and hope for a set piece. Rinse and repeat) is becoming less and less prevalent in the BPL. Not too long back, over half the league was playing that way. Now, teams are going out and attacking and realising they can get in one game what the likes of Pulis and Alardyce take 3 draws to achieve. And the league is becoming a far more entertaining and attractive product again.

West Brom have 'settled' for lower half-mid table at best because he's so limited. Stoke, whilst still up and down results wise, have at least vastly changed their style and are a far better side to watch with more prospects than they ever had under him.

Each to their own, but give me a Leicester, Bournemouth, Watford, West Ham et all this year than such utter tedium as what those two men religiously put out.

If you do it against better team and succeed, its great tactics. If a lesser team does it to you and succeeds, its anti-football.

Guess it's how you want your football to be played.

To still be out Wimbledon, Wimbledon in this day and age with the way the game has evolved is not my idea of something to be applauded. He doesn't just play that way against better sides. He plays that way period because it's the only way he knows.

You're right, I do. I want to see all styles of football. It'd be boring if everybody played tiki-taka, wouldn't it?

The art of defending is dying, probably due to modern defenders being so ******. And its a shame.

I don't call what he does the 'art of defending' (more outright thuggery when it comes to a Pulis run side in many instances over the years), but it's his prerogative (and his complete limitations as a coach) to do that. There's cutting your cloth accordingly, and there's taking it to the extreme. As he does it against everyone, stronger or weaker regardless. he most assuredly falls into the latter.

It is what it is and I don't have a problem with different 'styles' of football either.

But I sure as heck pity the fans that have to sit through it week on week and have right through his career wherever he's been.

Not too confident today as bar a few spectacular performances the rest have been very average. Important game as we seem to be losing ground on those above us almost every week

To be fair to Bogdan, on the replays that is a foul with the ball in his hands... However, impossible for the referee to see that in real timeand wouldn't be a debate had he not took the first cross

He's some man for one man that Bogdan lad.

I don't think it was a foul.
Not 100%, but I don't think He was in full possession of the ball.

Does the possession really matters? I mean if you hit goalkeepers to the hands it should still be counted as foul even he is not holding the ball.

But yeah, Bogdan as been a mess right now. But also the defence is leaking.

I noticed u still have K. Toure on bench? :D I thought he has already left and u have younger defender for backup. He must be enjoying good wages on bench.
We have but we sent him on loan.

The goalkeeper is considered to be in control of the ball when the ball is held with both hands, held by trapping the ball between one hand and any surface (e.g., the ground, a goalpost, the goalkeeper’s body), or holding the ball in the outstretched open palm. Once established, possession is maintained, when the ball is held as described above, while bouncing the ball on the ground or throwing it into the air. Possession is given up if, after throwing the ball into the air, it is allowed to hit the ground. For purposes of determining goalkeeper possession, the “handling” includes contact with any part of the goalkeeper’s arm from the fingertips to the shoulder.

While the ball is in the possession of the goalkeeper, it may not be challenged for or played by an opponent in any manner. An opponent who attempts to challenge for a ball in the possession of the goalkeeper may be considered to have committed a direct free kick foul. However, a ball which is only being controlled by the goalkeeper using means other than the hands is open to otherwise legal challenges by an opponent. The referee should consider the age and skill level of the players in evaluating goalkeeper possession and err on the side of safety.
