God Villa are in a shocking mess aren't they? Learner has completely decimated the whole football club. I can well see them doing a Leeds and dropping again. The whole club is just dying.

Fear it'll be a GOOD whiles before they return the top flight which is a real shame as they're a real traditional club and one of our most successful. Sad to imagine them down the lower leagues for a spell as they've been more or less a constant the top league right through our lifetime.

In fairness, he spent a lot of money which was wasted by O'neill, then lost a fortune in an unrelated business venture, and has been actively looking for a buyer since.

The more I read and watch (for what that's ever worth on cut-ups), the more I'm really looking forward to seeing him out there in red. His ranking the top ten in almost every defensive category the Bundesliga this year really excites you.

A defender that really likes to defend and does it well.

Oh how we've missed you ......

Bit rough on the ball, and makes the occasional concentration error, but improving all the time. 20m Euro defender if under a long term contract

Thank you. Don't always agree but I appreciate your views all the same.

Even more so when I've never seen someone play.

He lost a fortune in the costly divorce.

According to Bild, Matip is getting a £4m sign-on fee and a yearly wage of £5.4m = ~£100k p/w. That's quite a lot for an up-and-coming defender.

The thing is it isn't... It's quite a lot by Liverpool's standards but if the intention is for him to be a starting CB, the wage is probably an average for a top 6 team

He's not really 'up and coming', he's 24, and he ain't gonna be back up. I'd imagine Skrtel will leave, and we'll start with Sakho and Matip. Don't get me wrong, I still think we really need another centre back a leader, as it were.

Never been sold on Sakho. He's got a massive cult hero status with the crowd but he panics the living **** out of me every time the balls anywhere near him. It's like there's a disconnect between his feet and his head and they're both going in the opposite direction.

The fact that he's been our best centre back up until Lovren's turnaround under Klopp hasn't been saying much as the others are all sub-standard. Be VERY happy to see the back of Skrtel if/ when he goes. How he's gotten over 300 appearances is a complete mystery for someone SO limited and say's a heck of a lot about how poor our recruitment has been back there over his time.

Can't wait to see Joe Gomez under Klopp either in his natural position given his brilliant step up to the top league before his injury. Sure he'd of been heavily involved this year had he been available.

Hopefully Matip is a step back in the right direction to the type of player to take us back to where we so crave to be.

Well, it's a Liverpool subforum so of course I'm going by Liverpool standards.

Depends how you look at it. He's not a top class defender that would immediately slot right into the other top teams in Europe, although I admit my knowledge of him is limited. He could however become a top class defender, which is probably what Klopp is hoping too. He's fairly young, even at 24. He's making a move to a bigger club to take the next step in his career. All this suits the description up and coming imo.

Bit the bullet and paid £80 for a return train with my cousin. Megabus was 1/4 of the price but **** 7-8 hour coach trips.

What price ticket was left?

I picked the cheapest one cos I'm a cheap skate and have really good eyesight...

Think it came to £45. The other ticket type was £90 but that was on the same level just more around the sideline. Didn't think it was worth the extra 50!

Meh, **** paying that. We have a mixture of £40 and £56.
