Someone can say that you used to be good too.

You could, but seeing as we won the league less than a year ago and put a pretty decent fight in the CL, it wouldn't make a lot of sense.

The post is nonsensical anyway, because no one is calling them a small club when you consider their history, you'd have to be braindead to do that. People think they're not a top club right now because they're not: look at their league finishes and silverwear in the 5/6 years. Pointing to the past in order to disprove this is like trying to argue that your Mrs is still hot because she was a looker back when she was 20, it just doesn't make sense. The fact that Villa, easily the worst club in the top flight right now and consistently one of the worst for years now, are 4th should illustrate that point well enough. So what is the point of the post? The only way it could be more stereotypical if it was an Arsenal fan showing me their balance book and their consistent top 4 finishes whilst they cry over a picture of Henry.

But as it's the Liverpool thread, it seemed a little mean to say that so I thought a bit of friendly bantz would be better instead.

Subtle, where yer been? There's a few 'braindead' people that usually do on here. Let's not pretend they don't.

Joking aside the rationale above doesn't fly with some. So it's nice to both be proud of one's own clubs amazing consistency at the highest level and squash the ridiculous mocking of others.

Top club and big club are two different things.

Silly silly plastic.

EDIT: Although to say we aren't a top club is also a bold statement

Couple of interesting German bits and pieces the weekend.

Our main European scout (Didi's brother. Nice connection) was at Cologne's game again. (0-1 home loss to Bayern.). That's quite a few times he's watched them. Reportedly for the obvious Horn and the LB Jonas Hector. Don't know much about Hector, but Horn would be a major upgrade on Mingolet and the apparent £7 million release clause would be a steal. Interesting that we keep watching Koln's games.

Talking of steals ..... The Gotze talk intensified again. Fjortoft is claiming it's all but guaranteed for what's that's worth. But £31 million? Seem's ridiculously cheap to me for a top class player of his ilk and age. Even accepting he'll be in the last year of his contract from this summer, they have to be wanting more than that surely?

Would take Horn in a hearbeat. Not to sure about Gotze, is it worth spending all that money on a position were well stocked in. Hmmm...

You can never have too many top class players mate. And we have WAY too few. Aside from him flourishing under Klopp in a multitude of positions at Dortmund and knowing exactly what's expected.

Just seem's a low fee that's being banded around. £31 million for a World class, proven winner at 23 would be daylight robbery.

Wouldn't say he is Worldclass just yet, Has the potential defo. He seems to have lost his way a bit at Bayern plus he is injury prone I think. I just feel Gotze would be a bit of a luxury buy, We have more pressing problems in our squad that need addressing first.

Gotze can play all across the front 3, or even as false nine if necessary. I don't see the problem.

If he is in the last year of his deal fee is probably about right. Sure they sold Kroos for similar amount to Real and he was in the last year too. Could be a sign you may move one on but then would also offer some interesting interchange of positions too given his versatility. I'm sure there will be other suitors but Klopp probably gives you an advantage. I'm guessing they had a good relationship?

One would presume. He (Gotze) has alluded to them still being in regular contact. And he speaks in glowing terms of how his career direction really took off under Klopp at Dortmund. Don't know how reliable Fjortoft is (he seem's to be in on everything Bundesliga. Funny story of how I got a Sky fella' taking off air back at Swindon the early '90's over him I'll tell you another day haha); but he came out with this tweet on those lines the other day .....

Klopp is Götze's "father" - Hey son! I will make you great and happy again. Join me at Anfield.

We have Coutinho, Daniel, Origi, Firmino, Lallana, Milner and Ibe on top of the emerging youngster's. All can play across the front 3, unless we plan on moving on one or two of these players then perhaps it would make sense to go all out for Gotze.

Last year of his contract, not been playing regularly and has struggled with injures quite a bit.

The lad is a genuine world class player when fully fit and playing regularly - If there is a chance we can get him, we should go for it

Whole lot of reports linking us to Niklas Sule. Not sure how reliable the reports are, but he turns into a beast on FM. Hoffenheim are 17th though so maybe he's not doing so well. He and Volland would be excellent signings I think though, I'm sure Firmino would be happy to reunite with them!
