If he is in the last year of his deal fee is probably about right. Sure they sold Kroos for similar amount to Real and he was in the last year too. Could be a sign you may move one on but then would also offer some interesting interchange of positions too given his versatility. I'm sure there will be other suitors but Klopp probably gives you an advantage. I'm guessing they had a good relationship?

One would presume. He (Gotze) has alluded to them still being in regular contact. And he speaks in glowing terms of how his career direction really took off under Klopp at Dortmund. Don't know how reliable Fjortoft is (he seem's to be in on everything Bundesliga. Funny story of how I got a Sky fella' taking off air back at Swindon the early '90's over him I'll tell you another day haha); but he came out with this tweet on those lines the other day .....

We have Coutinho, Daniel, Origi, Firmino, Lallana, Milner and Ibe on top of the emerging youngster's. All can play across the front 3, unless we plan on moving on one or two of these players then perhaps it would make sense to go all out for Gotze.
 
Last year of his contract, not been playing regularly and has struggled with injures quite a bit.

The lad is a genuine world class player when fully fit and playing regularly - If there is a chance we can get him, we should go for it
 
Whole lot of reports linking us to Niklas Sule. Not sure how reliable the reports are, but he turns into a beast on FM. Hoffenheim are 17th though so maybe he's not doing so well. He and Volland would be excellent signings I think though, I'm sure Firmino would be happy to reunite with them!

How many of them are better than Gotze? Origi, Lallana, Milner and Ibe are not even close!
 
Gotze would certainly be a top class signing, no one is arguing with that, but the point I think dilakh2 is making is that we don't have an unlimited budget and with two high quality players in that area already (Coutinho and Firmino) as well as some solid depth, there are other areas of the team which we should be strengthening first before splashing 30m+ on another versatile attacking midfielder, even if he's an upgrade

FWIW, according to Ayre there's a 'major warchest' available for Klopp to spend the summer.

Now, I wouldn't trust FSG on much of anything. And even less that comes out of his mouth. But that's what he said when the yearly accounts/ big profit came out a week or so back.

So taking him on face value for the sake of argument, if Rodgers spent what he did, what does a 'major warchest' amount to?

The return flights per se went through the roof as soon as the draw was made which made this one tricky. We fortunately got an a £53 flight to Cologne Thursday (then the short train ride), with a £100 return from Dortmund Sat'day, both in and out of Stansted. Which was about the cheapest we could find but still means a trek down South and an overnight in a Travelodge the Wednesday for the 7:40 AM flight the Thursday. It was silly money from most all airports up North. There was a real cheap flight back from Nuremburg (€55) I found with good times but the cost of the 4 hour train journey from Dortmund negated that. (And a great one from Bremen back to Manchester a mates got on but the logistics of leaving a car down South nullified that.).

There's always options, but unless you're experienced, know what you're doing and are straight on the ball, the standard flights/ routes always jump excessively when there's a game to what they are any other day and something seriously needs sorting over it.

Another continued problem for football fans that long needs addressing.

First official friendly confirmations the summer with our participation again in the ICC:

Chelsea in LA/ Pasadena July 27

Milan in San Fran the 30th

And Barcelona the 6th of August in Europe. Venue yet to be confirmed. Honestly didn't know that one was part of the ICC (thought it would be just a straight up friendly), but heard for a while it's between Dublin, Cardiff and London (probably the Emirates), for Barca. Also this is all apparently down to whether we're in the Europa qualifiers as Klopp want's a full strength squad for those, and the ICC organisers naturally want the top players out there.

Hopefully this will be the last long haul for a while if he get's his way over not having pre-season disrupted by travel.

That's what I meant lol. You can't just add gotze with all them players still on the wage bill and with more pressing problems we should spend that kind of money on e.g GK, Fullback etc... It would require one or two of those players mentioned above to be moved on to make space for gotze. This isn't Football manager were you can just transferlist Lallana or Milner and expect someone to buy them. Im just thinking logically guys.

I guarantee you he is chatting Bullshite. We won't have a warchest available, It'll most likely be a sell to buy policy. Tbh I would trust Klopp and his men to unearth a hidden gem, then the Conman and his gang of frauds.

Aside from money and prioritising areas, if the likes of Milner and Lallana then become better quality depth players than you currently have, with a better player replacing them the starting XI, your squad is instantly improved right there surely?

They would just block the path of a talented youngster at the club on top of earning senior player wages (Milner 140k a week no thank you). Squad players should always be young players imo, That way when an injury or suspension happens I would rather a talented young player chomping at the bits to seize his chance e.g Rashford, Stewart instead of a disillusioned senior back up player. You save wages and introduce a talented young player to the first team, whats not to like.

Well, Stewart and Can are the only one's that will need registering for the home grown quota that didn't this year. All the other young kids are under age and good. So unless you want to run a reduced group you need to keep some of the vet. home grown there. I wouldn't off load Lallana at all personally. To replace him your looking at similar money for an English player and would you get one that's better? Milner ..... as critical as I've been of him, one thing that is invaluable there to me is his work rate and professionalism. He'll do a decent job wherever he's asked to play. Yeah, his production goals and assist wise hasn't been great. But he has his worth on other aspects. Certainly worth keeping around another year for me. Allen is the one I can see defo going from the home grown contingent if we got a decent 5-7 million offer. Only so much alteration you can do this summer. I think you'll see certain youngsters become more integrated the first team. The likes of Ojo, Stewart/ Brananagan. Hopefully Smith. But you still need the experienced players there too.
 
Be real interesting to see how Klopp develops this squad over the summer.

He's basically had a 'free' luxury season to fully evaluate everyone. Wouldn't be surprised to see some players we least expect depart.

*I totally feel yer on Milner diakh man. I just keep flip flopping on him personally and currently I'm at the stage where I wouldn't be going nuts if he stayed one more year to bridge that gap in the squad until we can get better.

As to the above, our current HG players are:

Allen
Clyne
Flanagan
Henderson
Ings
Milner
Lallana
Sturridge.

With Stewart and Ward the only others who'll need registering next year if they're to be a part of the first team squad. Gomez, Ibe, and the relevant kids are still 'freebie' under-21's that don't need registering.

So out of that what, Allen we could afford to lose? Maybe Milner? And Henderson if the offer was right?
