Well at least this match missive will be easy and quick.

Title Defence Countdown:
5 wins down/ 22 to go.
15 points down/ 74 to go.

Seems trite keeping that up right now as the only thing on the agenda is L’pool sorting their own S out and winning a game of football. But until the maths say otherwise …..

The ONLY good thing from a bitterly cold evening yesterday was getting home for 20 past 3. Which was actually 2:20 AM. YAY daylight saving time! 🕺🕺🕺Hopefully, LFC’s clocks have turned back to last season overnight. 🤞🤞

Even Brentford’s infamous, boss sausage rolls, about the only time I ever buy food in a ground, weren’t up to their normal standard. Which didn’t help my mood haha.

Very muted response to Henderson from our end. But we handled that respectfully with some clapping that wanted to acknowledge him. And an impervious, no interest silence from those didn’t. Much better that than any boos or shout-outs. Kelleher was boss with a thumbs-up and smile to his rapturous applause.

On the support, as lost as everyone is as to what’s happening currently on the pitch, there is NO disgruntled shout-outs toward the manager. Or worse, madly calling for his head like I’ve just been reading scanning through SM/ on-line platforms. 🤦‍♂️ He could lose 10-in-a-row and that wouldn’t happen after bringing home number 20. That isn’t who we are or how we conduct ourselves. But man alive he needs to start earning his corn and sort this S out. And quick! And any and all criticism of him is MORE than warranted at present. The anger at the final whistle was toward the players and their gutless lack of effort and fight. No issue getting beat by the better team. That’s football on the day. But a lack of fight and giving everything is TOTALLYunacceptable!

Nothing to say about the absolute dog💩 on the pitch in what was our single worst display of football since pre-Jurgen. Probably since the Hodge was in charge. Or maybe Bendon’s end? Only Jones, yet again this season, and big Dom come away absolved of any criticism. And Chiesa his short spell as he was the only attacker to have the nous to drop in. Madly playing CH/ LB and left-half among other roles as he worked his behind off for the team to try make something happen.

Although Dominic can PROPER get to F coming over and raising his arms for support the end! 🤬 I mean I get what he was trying to do. For everyone to stick together to get through this in the L’pool way. But NOT after such an abject display as that mate when you collectively showed next to no fight and graft for us. Many of the faces in our end yesterday were regular faces that were in Germany through the week. With some not getting home until midnight Friday after a proper mess in Copenhagen with delayed/ cancelled flights. To then turn around and go straight down Brentford to support you lads. So, politely Dom, and ALL of you, GET TO F! with that S! 🤬🤬 We’ll support you unconditionally to the end. But don’t F tell us how to do that! 🤬🤬🤬

Futile pointing fingers at any individual players or the manager. We win and go through the good times as a team. The same in bad periods like this. But they ALL, players and coaching staff alike, need to take a long, hard look at themselves in the mirror and sort this S out. And quick! Time to batten down the hatches, give the media as little as possible, and work this out between themselves. You just feel lost at the minute as there’s so many issues going on, you can’t see a single solution in just changing personnel or tactics.

This will turn eventually. We are far too good a group of players and coaching staff for it not to. And when it does, we’ll be flying again. Just a question of when? And currently, you can’t see that happening for a ways longer yet.

Palace has now suddenly become the most important game of the season bar none.

Up the Reds.

Agree with the sentiment about changing managers but taking sentiment out of it do you think he can change it? I think he's stubbornness will be his downfall and looking at our record since the disaster week of psg and Newcastle it doesn't read nice. The giant doughnut midfield experiment he currently has going on clearly doesn't work yet he persists with it.

Im not a betting man but I don't think he lasts the season simply because of the money spent and the expectations of this club has changed from pre klopp to post klopp. Lastly, and what scares me the most is he looks out of his depth right now.

Absolutely.

Just have to ride out this ***** patch. It will turn at some point. They are too good for it not to.

The only way he doesn’t last the season is if the support turns. And he’s way too much credit in the bank for that.

He’s not helping himself like. But you don’t go from winning the league, to being out of your depth. This is on them all. Staff and players.

One game at a time. Palace being the next massive, can not lose game.

The only thing I will say about winning the league. Is what still pretty much Klopp team with a lot of his implementations still in it. I always left at the transition talk due to this reason last year. Now he’s a his hands dirty as to say in the transfer market with his players in and changed things in regarding to tactics it’s not looking good honestly.

Not saying he can’t turn it around. But also saying we are just to good won’t be enough. A squad of good players doesn’t mean a great team proven more than enough throughout football history. I personally think you did to much in the window that wasn’t necessary.

Scouse is right that will help massively is his credit he has with the fans. But it’s gotta change pretty sharpish.

Well maybe something to do with City having a big drop off last season compared to when they were practically unstoppable while Klopp was there. When City were practically getting 90 points a season then to be in 70s in Slotts first season. You could say it actually came together perfectly for you.

You’re being very detrimental to Slot. As many currently are in the media and on-line.

Arne solved the defensive solidity by both tweaking positions and turning Gravenberch into one of the best 6’s in the league. And dropping the line back 10 yards. Along with playing a lot slower, more controlled game. Particularly in first halves were he sat back by design, looked at what the opposition were doing, and made HT adjustments. Similar but inherently different to Jurgen.

Tactically, not a lot has changed bar little tweeks to accommodate a 10 this season. We’re still playing the same way stylistically. Just currently, for whatever reason, the shape is all over the place and his HT adjustments/ in-game subs aren’t what they were last year. And his starting XI’s are leaving a lot to be desired. Surprising for me to read in here how slow it is. When it was that way most every first half at least last season. Just with the shape all over, the co trip isn’t there currently.

Just a case of riding this period out until it turns.

And among everything, there’s the loss of Jota hanging heavy. How long that will take for certain players to move on remains to be seen.

It all looks a disjointed mess atm. I don’t think some of the signings were necessary and I think he’s tried to do to much at one time that didn’t need to be.

Was they really a need of all 3 of Ekitike, Isak and Wirtz and Diaz to leave. Was Kerkez needed this summer. I don’t think Frimpong was the right signing personally. I think Quansah and Elliot should have stayed on as squad players. I’m not saying it won’t work or click but I think it could have been a more fazed build.

It just reminds me a lot of Moyes first season( yes it’s Moyes lol) . Team just won the league. He comes in gets rid of so many players that just won the title and so much experience and it was an absolute disaster. Most of those players could of stayed and done a job while he started his own transitional period at the club, instead of trying to do it all in one window.

I would love to see us line up like this I think. I know we currently lack the CB coverage to do it, but I feel its probably our best formation at the moment.

Yes. We had no CF's down Nunez and Jota, Diaz wanted to chase the money, He turned down three contract extension offers .That was on him and out of the clubs hands.

And tuning down the opportunity for Florian Wirtz ..... ? SERIOUSLY?!!!!!

Was Kerkez needed this summer.

Yes. One of the major needs last summer. Tsimikas was nowhere near good enough and there was no succession plan for AndyRobbo.

I don’t think Frimpong was the right signing personally.

Disagree completely there as outside of the lad at PSG, there wasn't a better attacking RB, by most every metric, across Europe ..... To replace the top attacking right full who chose to leave. Again, a major problem area when we were left with just 1 right fullback.

I think Quansah and Elliot should have stayed on as squad players. I

Well Elliott was patently not liked by Slot last season as he barely played. And he'd have been even further down the midfield depth given Wirtz plays his position

Quansah I'll grant you, But he wanted to play. Which was never happening consistently. And they were happy to flip him for great money, knowing they had a top Italian prospect. And England's best CH. (Before Parish went soft on Glasner.).

I’m not saying it won’t work or click but I think it could have been a more fazed build.

Klopp 2.0 was only partially done. There was still a lot to rebuild within the squad for the next 5 plus years. And after doing nottin' last season as he took stock of what he had, this summer was the natural one to try box most all that business.

Can't really fault any of the top business they did which was all needed. If anything, you could argue they should have done more.

Maybe this turns into the transition season setting up the future most clubs would have done year one last year?

Ok mate fair enough. Better off just agreeing to disagree. I personally think you would have been better off signing a more well rounded FB not wing back. And signing Isak or Ekitike only and having a capable back up. I think Robertson would have been good for another year as back up. Tsimikas looks better than Kerkez currently looks. And you’ve basically saying yourself your signing Wirtz for the sake of it without no thought for the balance of the squad.

I’m sure you will pick up results as you have to many top players. But I can’t see you being consistently good like previous years while trying to show horn so many top class players in while the others sat on the bench not happy

I think that switch would work and most probably help you defensively and suit the FBs you have signed. Then which of the front to is gonna be happy not starting most games. Good headache to have I guess. Maybe.

Agree with Scouse that the signings were needed as we lost three forwards. We lost the playmaker in our team and replaced him with Wirtz who is far from the problem. Robbo is finished at the top level he's legs have genuinely gone. Regardless, Its so easy to point to the signings and say too much and yes there will be a transition but not lose 4 games on the trot and have been atrocious for a good while now.

For me its down to the Slot and the coaches perhaps wanting a different profile of players and the management above not aligning. You don't sign the best attacking fullback in the league to play as a left cb or have the midfield vacated and push up front leaving no progression and space for a no.10 to play with tripping over others. I've said it before that I want him to fix it but hes stubbornness imo will have him out of the top seat if he doesn't. Football is a results business at the end of the day.
