Pre-Season

View attachment 128627
Relatively solid pre-season with our only defeats coming against top flight sides from Italy and France. Hopefully we will be in good shape to start the season well and push towards promotion back to the Premier League.

Transfers

View attachment 128651

Uneventful transfer window as of August 22 with only one permanent in and out. Robby Brady comes in from Norwich to fill a gap on the left of midfield and out-of-favour Tiote leaves for a decent £3.5m. Unlikely to be anymore incomings but a few players may depart if they start the season poorly.

Squad

Extremely capable squad in the Championship. Most of our team could push for starting spots in most top flight teams. Anything other than automatic promotion would be seen as failure.

We have been dominant in our first two months in charge. We began with a comfortable victory against Sheffield Wednesday with Lazaar and Perez grabbing the goals. A stalemate at Reading followed before a demolition of Forest at St. James' Park. Our terrific form continued through August and September including wins at title rivals Norwich and Derby. A returning hero in Andy Carroll (on loan from West Ham until January) scored on his second debut against Villa to grab all three points. Keep this form up and we will have no problem winning the league. Could an undefeated season be on the cards?

Matt Ritchie

One of the only players to play almost every game in a period where we heavily rotated to get everyone match fit. Performed consistently well grabbing two goals and eight assists in 12 appearances.

Sorry, I've had to change accounts because I couldn't post images on the new one.

We've continued our strong form all the way through to Christmas loosing just one game across the three months in the league. Our best performances came against Birmingham, Preston and second placed Wolves. The goals have been evenly spread throughout the team with Gayle, Perez, Carroll and Murphy all scoring consistently. Despite the positives, there has been lackluster performances against relegation strugglers Rotherham and Barnsley. We were also dumped out the the Capital One Cup on penalties against Watford despite taking the lead three times during the game.

Chancel Mbemba

After a deadline day to PSG collapsed, Mbemba has grown into a rock at the back alongside Lascelles. Our solid defence is the main reason behind our terrific form and this guy has been a major part of that.

Our busiest period of the season also turned out to be our most successful. Despite our second league loss coming just after the turn of the year, we managed to beat bitter rivals Sunderland in a replay in the FA Cup. We then embarked on a 15-match unbeaten run which included a shock victory at Anfield in the FA Cup and we earned a replay at Chelsea in the following round. We clinched promotion with a point at Brighton in the last game of March.
We had a quiet January with no signings coming in. We tried to offload Mitrovic and Shelvey but there were no takers unfortunately.

Achraf Lazaar
Been fantastic during his first season in England putting in quality performances at both left-back and left-midfield. One player who is sure to keep his place when we make the step up to the Premier League.

Having already clinched promotion, we secured the title by hammering Preston. We pushed Chelsea all the way in the cup before our league form drifted with nothing to play for winning just two of our last six.

Ayoze Perez
The talented Spaniard had his most productive spell of the season scoring most of our goals across April. There are some Champions Legaue clubs sniffing around so it may be a fight to keep him over the summer.

Surprisingly, Yedlin picked up Fan's Player of the Season as Ritchie grabbed Championship Player of the Year. Other notable performers this season were Lazaar, Brady, Mbemba and Perez.

Perez was run close as Top Scorer by Ritchie (16 goals) and Gayle (19 goals) whilst both Brady and Lazaar reached double figures in assists.
