The Manchester United Thread

Not true really we had a goal ruled out wrongly and could of easy had 4-5 gls ourselves.

You did have some chances, that was true i just think apart from possession you were poor and every pundit said similar

I know you're a very positive supporter but i think LVG is definitely trying to build confidence because it was not a good performance

Evans had his best game of the season yesterday...

Don't know if his form has taken a turn for the better

If it has then it's quite a loss

If it hasn't, good riddens

We were poor but keeping the ball is still dominating no matter the lack of chances you create. You have 60% and up possesion that is dominating, but the team doesn't do enough with it.

So, what can we do when we don't have possession?

We could only press to win it back...which we did brilliantly...

It was a good performance...Atleast better than the last 3-4 games

Not bad, not sure if it's a good or bad thing but looks like Evans could be suspended for quite a while.
LOL thought the same :) Sorry if I come across as a bit of a red specs man. I just try to look at every little thing and take it into account, must be my age or my wife chilling me out :P

Agree mate we defo need to do more. Chances created over the last 3-4 games has steadily risen which is better I suppose.

Im not sure you did - you had the majority of possession but had Cisse or Riviere took their very, very good chances and also Newcastle got a obvious penalty it would be very different

You dominated possession but done little with it and that's about it
But they didn't. We created more chances than Newcastle. We were better in every aspect of the game. Yes, they should have pen called, but we had perfectly good goal denied due to offside, by the same assistant who didn't see the pen as well as he thought it was offside. In the end, we took one chance and we got the 3 points.

After reading a ton of articles today about LVG written by him and other people, he seems a very offensive coach and looking at some of his other matches from the past from various teams today he does like possession but with attacking intent. I think he just does not trust our ability to defend with the players we have at the back atm. And is concentrating on negating that with more possession.

If you want to look at it that way i suppose - It's dominating possession certainly

However, when Real Madrid beat Bayern 4-0 they only had 39% possession and i dont think Bayern will be claiming they dominated...

Possession wise, United have been quite good this season but you still let the opposition create too many chances and look very bland in attack (although you did look slightly better in that sense yesterday)

No doubt, it's all about the three points but I would be very disappointed as a Newcastle fan with having the two best chances in the game and a stonewall penalty turned down

Yes, i can certainly see that being a reason.

United have proved people wrong all season so far because when you watch them it is quite poor compared to the other top 4 or 5 teams but they do seem to have that knack of getting results

However, the upcoming fixture list will either make or break your season and also determine if the 'doubters' had genuine reason to be doubtful

Really recommend you guys read that article I posted on LVG a few posts back. Great insight!!!!!!!

So basically he's trying to instill the mindset that we are unbeatable into the team? Mental strength and belief is first and foremost? Once we start going out believeing we are unbeatable, then the free flowing performances will follow?

Thats basically what all that comes down to from what i can see. If a player doesnt believe or loses faith they will be replaced. Until we find that balance of mental strength in the team. Then the natural football and ability will follow.

When people realised counter attacking football is now the in thing again and that's how i'd like us to play but i don't think we really have the forwards or overall pace to do so or even just defenders/midfielders who move the ball quicker and forward which helps when you don't have much pace.

Yes, that is very true - United do seem to lack a lot of pace in their side

Lack of fluidity and understanding when attacking is also an issue imo more so than pace.

How many times have we scored quick precise one touch or two touch goals with movement?

I would love us to have a team like our 2008 team now. Speed all over the pitch. Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez all breaking forward on the counter. We could rip teams apart for fun back then.

I'd just take a prime vidic, stam or rio right now, just one would make a world of difference to have a proper top class commanding cb.

Our attacking play and over all play should be much better next season. Will be interesting what type of player LVG goes for in the summer!
