The Manchester United Thread

But we've been trying to do that in the epl and we've faltered....

Rather see good old fashioned wing play over the dross i've been watching for the past 3-4 games

Ideally you combine the two. CSKA went wide to battle that, that would leave acres of inside space. Width creates gaps, depth creates space

Ok Rooney scored. And LVG will no doubt say thats why I play him, he's my captain blah blah blah but come on, he should never have been on that pitch and any manager with a pair of bollocks would have taken him off. If nothing comes out after the game about Martial being injured, why did he go off and not Rooney? Then why did Mata go off and not Rooney? LVG is one very lucky man that Rooney scored, coz if he made those changes and Rooney still didnt score, and after the absolute sitter he missed, he definately would have had people calling for his head. The Martial sub I think was the turning point for the fans. No matter how unhappy we are, we hardly ever boo at Old Trafford. Things have to be pretty dire to get boo's. Then the cry's of ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK. Good win, good that Rooney scored and good that it paid off, but LVG must have somebody looking over him tonight.

Well, that one should be pretty obvious, no? Martial is immensely talented and already impressive player, but he's only 19. His gametime needs to be managed very carefully. Matter of fact, he's already playing way too much, but unfortunately you rely on him to such an extent, there's not much of a choice.

Van Gaal needs to walk the fine line between gunning for results and managing Martial's development. And I'll bet you anything that 3-4 years down the line, you'd be grateful that he played it safe.

I get the Martial off, but it should have been for Herrera or Wilson. Fellaini did nothing.

I get the development thing, but when your still 0-0 at home in a must win game, and he's been our best player and biggest threat since he joined, why take him off and leave Rooney on who had done nothing again and already missed a sitter? If he's playing too much then bench him against West Brom on Saturday and then there is an international break isnt there? Must win game and you take off your biggest threat for "plan B" Fellaini and then take Mata off aswell? His subs completely baffle me. Every game we are practically playing with 10 men anyway with Rooney playing. Then you get the inevitable 65min sub of one of Carrick, Schweinsteiger or Schneiderlin off for whichever one of those 3 is sat on the bench. Only leaving us with 2 subs left to change a game. And most of the time one of those remaining 2 subs is Fellaini on to play long ball to. Its pathetic and predictable

I can't help but laugh when Fellaini gets subbed on in the later stages of the game :D

In fairness Rooney wasnt the problem today, bar the miss. We could have done with Herrera, but actually we played quite well. Need to improve the end product though, and we were caught offside far too much for my liking.

Oh dear, yeah. At this point I think I managed to train my hands to sub-consciously perform two-handed facepalm the moment Fellaini is warming up. Quite a masterstroke plan B, isn't it? Put up a guy who can connect to crosses, without having any wide player on the pitch that can actually cross.

In other news, quite a masterclass performance from di maria today at the bernabeu

Not sure how PSG didn't win

Fellaini has his uses, but it was definitely not what you wanted at the tempo we were playing at

One big positive is Lingard's movement. He is getting chances, hit the woodwork twice in 2 games and today he had plenty of chances. Usually he is very calm infront of the goal, so sooner he will be scoring them. Very much impressed with his off the ball movement.

Haha, more or less you were right. :D

Asked if he had heard the crowd's reaction, the Dutchman said:

'Of course, I am not deaf.'

'That is the opinion of the fans. Afterwards they shall not be disappointed by the decision of the manager.'

'I'm very happy because I put him again in the striker's position and he scored.'

So, basically, we're lucky to have Rooney, who saved the day. :D

Ah, and seems like he forgot Mike's name again. :D

Yeah. Because an honest opinion is just to get a reaction. Except when it happens the other way.

I'll go with the fans in the ground who are as frustrated and bored shitless.

lol, nice try.

'Spose actual match going Utd fans are trying to toll yer too. Or maybe they borrowed my 'specs to watch the game huh?

But hey, it was just me who thought the first half was laboured, slow and easy to defend. (Being as that was as far as my opinion went last night after the ridiculous defensive reactions.).

Wouldn't of bothered replying if you and others hadn't gone down the insulting trolling path. So as your own did the same, I'll tell them for yer .....

Utd fans at Old Trafford. QUIT TROLLING!

You know you're struggling when you use fan TV to make a point.

Scholes picked up on it last night, Carrick and Bastian excellent in wanting to pass forwards through the middle, but they could also have done with more carrying through the middle. Whether last nights improvement was a short term reaction to criticism from the lives of Scholes, or a long term change remains to be seen. United don't like teams who sit very deep, that's where Herrera should be used as he will be in acres of space. CSKA conceded a lot of free kicks to our direct runners, especially lingard. Caught offside too much as well. Another question is can United play with the same tempo with a 3 man mid? Big difference in the number of players getting into the box, but I'd like to see one or two arriving late, keeps depth and allows you to recycle if the initial attack breaks down. Fellaini on was pointless. Still more improvements to be made. Can still create better chances, should be creating 3-4 chances like the Carrick lingard move a game

Strange game. Ofcurse Rooney will score if he spents so much time on the pitch and at the front. When he last time scored everyone told he will start scoring but nothing.
As i want more english teams in CL and to get them on, sadly it might end up very bad for United. Draw with PSV and losing to Wolf would be the end of it. Also depends if other teams dont lose or draw wih CSKA.
But yeah, it will be hard to get on, next game is a must win or lucky draw. If lose, it might be over.
Win and they are through. Most teams in the group have won all their home games. The Cl is all about taking the home games, if you can grab a win on the road, even better
