The Manchester United Thread

Idiocy personified (only outdone by BLIND's "defending" seconds later):

Still speechless that Depay failed to square it to Morgan with this simple pass to make it 2-0 before Chelsea equalised

The only thing I can put that pass down to is a selfish attitude. He probably thinks play Schneiderlin in where he did, so Schneiderlin has no option but to pass it back to Memphis when he continues his run into the box in acres of space and he scores.

Maybe I'm being generous but a professional footballer should not be playing that pass unless they want it to end with them scoring the goal. Looks like hes taken a bollocking from LVG though if hes playing for the U21's.

Guarantee that will be the end of Memphis. He's not got the attitude to know he did wrong and take the bollocking. He'll want out. Or a new manager.

It's not going to be the end of Memphis at all. Massive exaggeration. He's actually played very well tonight.

Lol...he's a young lad...give him time.

Borthwick-Jackson is a young lad who needs time.

Memphis is 22, a full international with 20 caps and World Cup experience, and over 30 european cup games under his belt. He should be showing a lot more, and certainly shouldn't be ******** the bed with passes that my grandma would make.

He is lacking confidence right now...I remember he put up very good cameo performances against shieffied united and Newcastle then he got shunned for like 4 games including derby county.

His confidence must've obviously taken a shot back to ground zero.

He played well last night? In the under 21's. And a very strong team at that. Nice one lol. He SHOULD be playing well in an u21 game.

He's made far too many mistakes. Costing the team goals and valuable points in the process. The fact that LVG doesn't play him and leaves him on the bench speaks volumes. He's had a bollocking and been made to play for the reserves.

You know there have been various reports about his attitude. If them reports are to be believed, do you think Memphis has the attitude or temperament to take a bollocking and knuckle down, listen, learn and prove a point? I don't. I think k he's more likely to spit his dummy out and make things hard for himself under LVG. So there's only 2 outcomes for Memphis. He goes or LVG goes.

It's looking more and more likely LVG will be going in the summer anyway, so Memphis only has to ride out a few months. But I think at the moment LVG is done with Memphis. Barring a miracle happening or injuries to martial/Lingard, he won't be getting much game time. Not in the league anyway. Maybe Europa and FA cup if the draws are favourable.

Give me a better answer than nice one lol. It's not as simple as SHOULD be, even a level 1 coach can tell you that. Especially when you know the relationship between Memphis and LVG. He gets bollockings before, and praise. and never once spat his dummy out with LVG in all the time they have known each other. Not only that LVG has often defended him when others have chided. They have a father/son style relationship which lets LVG be more direct than others might be. Of course he's not playing, Martial owns one flank, so he's up against Mata and Lingard, who are both in better form. He's playing for the reserves because he's had little game time recently, and needs some confidence. so yeah, your two outcomes is er, not two outcomes at all.

Funnily enough i'll pay less attention to spurious reports (half of which turned out to be false) and more attention to how they actually have interacted over their career. And I'll take my own eyes over reports that hammer him for having an expensive car FFS

You don't want to know the stuff he got over him in the Netherlands because he went to training with a cowboy hat and a big scarf during summer :)

Memphis has a very good attitude and won't just drop the ball, but he wants to be too decisive. He's used to score lots of goals in the Eredivisie and I reckon it's very tough for him to be not that important for United at the moment.

Shades of late Nani here. Getting small minutes, trying too hard to impress and making errors and stupid decisions as a result. Needs some starts, and Martial needs a rest anyway. Got sunderland. Mitylland and Shrewsbury next. Should get him involved.

Unless Memphis can transition to a different position, he's finished at United. Martial is just too good as LW to be played anywhere else, Memphis won't push him out of the squad in a 1000 years.

So unless Memphis can transition to striker or something, my current prediction for his career would 1-2 years on a bench followed by dramatic transfer to West Ham. I played him as false nine in FM and it sort of worked, so who knows, maybe he'll lead the line couple of years from now.

Nah, we'll always need depth. Martial can't play every game, besides he will become the number nine in the near future.

It's not about a different position, but getting better decision making, that is the key to playing numerous positions.

Why on earth would you want him as #9? If he's leading the line it limits his time with the ball, and he needs the ball to do what he does best - run at people. He's also unusually strong for a guy with his pace, which give him good advantage against most full backs who usually have muscle mass of a 5 year old.

None of those traits are hardly bad as a #9 either.

They're not, but they're much better on the left. #9 would have him spend most of the games with back to goal, returning simple passes and having 2-3 chances per 90 minutes to run at people. On the wing he can do it all day.

It's always good to have options depending on injuries/tactics though.

Looks like you will end up with Mourinho in the summer. Numerous sources say that it's almost a done deal.
