The Manchester United Thread

City getting knocked out = 4th placed team in CL.

Doesn't matter what the results in Europa are as long as City are out.

Yeah, to that extent. But if City where to win the Champions League and not finish in the top four, whom ever finished fourth would then be praying L'pool didn't win the Europa.

Lot of praying be going on.

I'd say Arsenal would be most likely to drop out as they have been inconsistent lately and have to play City away still if they lose United can get in and then how any English team does in Europe is irrelevant

Just watching the Rennes v Monaco game. Boy Dembele and Silva are serious talents and hope we are in for them this summer.

Come to think of it I read a tweet from some journo today who was one of the first to mention Martial deal can't remember his name but was French. He said Utd definitely interested in two players from France and then Di Marzio replied with a big smiley face and thumbs up then said watch this space. Could be any of a few we have been linked with recently Ibra, Dembele, Silva, Moura, Ounas to name a few.

Rooney on playing as Midfielder.

“I've known for a few years (how to play in midfield), I have played there a few times throughout my career and I can play that position,” Rooney said.

“I have played and watched Paul Scholes play that role for years and I always knew that one day that is where I would play, so I have tried to learn and watch what he did. It is still early days but hopefully if I keep playing there I can develop and get better.

“I think I can free other players up. Obviously it is down to the manager, it is his decision and for the team, more importantly, it is the right thing to do at this moment in time.

“We have got a lot of pace in the team now and I think I can read the game quite well and whether to go forward or stay deeper and leave the space for the other lads.”

Played some really nice passes in the last 2 games but long term it's not a good idea at all.

The only place he fits in though at the moment. United look frightening with the pace up top and Rooney and Carrick to feed. If Rooney is up there meh.

IMO Rooney's best position is on the bench. Tbf to him, he played well in 2016 before getting injured and even after coming back from injury he didn't take time to settle but Rashford's pace and physicality is very much needed up front.

Rooney is excellent at playing long passes, he along with Carrick are the only players capable of picking out Valencia's run on wings but that's it you can say about Rooney. At least for now he lacks the movement of a midfielder and lacks position awareness. Saying that his goal line clearance was awesome.

Playing Rooney in the midfield just continues the problem we had for years. Shoehorning players for the sake of it.

Lets not forget that someone is lurking behind you and that would be amazing if West Ham somehow get to top4. They are in very good form right now.

I like Van Gaal but this is ridiculous. He didn't get the best out of the players, if anything he made them play worse and way below their normal level.

Also him complaining about small squad is biggest pile of **** as he said many times he wanted small squad to give chances to young players.

He said he wanted creative players and then sold Kagawa, Nani.

Edit: This interview sounded like he knew he is gone whatever is the case.

Yeah sounded like an interview from a man who new his time is coming to an end and threw in a few excuses etc. Some of what it says is ludicrous!!

He's not wrong, though. I'm sort of amazed he survived injury crisis of the century and managed to keep things together.

Every week since December people predicted team to turn on Van Gaal and inevitable firing, and yet he's stil here, and the team still has something to play for in two competitions.

Pulling the squad out of total crisis with bunch of 18 year olds is no small feat. At the end it's the style of play that will ultimately be his doom. The results I can live with, all things considered, but being bored out of my *** every week is not what I signed up for.
