The Manchester United Thread

Just watching his speech from last year. " we are going to win the league and were close ".
This year fans expectations are to high. Ok....

Anyhow, how ******* good was Rooney? I start to think moving him to CM isn't the worst idea, especially with Carrick leaving. Rooney and Bastian taking turns in pivot, why the **** not.

Plus that would finally free up CAM from Rooney-curse, and open that position for someone who actually fits there. I recon certain James is available...

...Or just put Mata in there without dpending £65 million+ and we're all set

If you get Ibrahimovic you can't keep slow players around him on the flanks, Mata will have to move to the no.10 position. I've never really been a fan of Mata on the right, despite him having success there sometimes.

Regarding Rooney, it's still early days, he was good tonight and has shown capability in that position, but whether it will be a full transition into that position and he'll be good enough to deliver consistently against the best I still have my doubts.

Rooney was always the logical person to replace scholes. But Rooney went crying for about 2 years about wanting to be a striker despite playing most of a match in midfield or every other position but a striker. Now he has come to terms with it, we should start seeing more performances like he did tonight. Rooney can control a game and spread passes about like scholes. Even the chip over to young was a typical scholes pass in his peak. Plus he can actually tackle. Keep the pace upfront, and have Rooney dictating play and popping up with a fair few goals aswell.

Our expectations are too high? Seriously you spend all that money on attacking talent over 2 years and we still can't score. Your expectations are too low LVG.

I thought Rooney was good tbh his work rate was decent and his spread of play was good and some of his passing was top draw. But he did have acres of space and a shed load of time. Was not under pressure at all. I still think he can play there, but will see what he's like against a top pressing side before I think he's the answer.

Just wondering people's thoughts on CMs they would like to see us after? Looking at Saul signed new contract, Sanches off to Bayern and Pjanic by all reports in Italy looking set for Juve.

We don't need CMs tho...especially if rooney is playing there full time. We need attacking players.

We still haven't gotten a replacement for di maria. Someone who'd give us that extra bit of spark in the final third not named martial and can play preferably on the right.

Then we Def need a striker or 2.

We defo need a CM or 2 if Fellaini and Carrick leaves. We need 1 starting CB to partner Smalling and then a STR Ibra. And a winger for the right.

Last RT; that's a very trustworthy Madrid journo saying Zidane has told Madrid that Keylor Navas is his goalkeeper. For now and the future.

I think we do need one cm who is combative yet also a bit of a playmaker. Dont forget that Carrick and hopefully Fellaini will leave and also that Schweini is likely to keep getting injured ...

We then need a class cb and a couple of wingers/ifs who are fast and technical. I also think we need another full back.

Complaining because AP hasn't come through is ridiculous.

Come on Mike, are you really arguing he got a fair shot this year? Never mind starting matches he should have featured much more as a sub.

dont think we need a FB we have Valencia, Darmian, CBJ, Shaw, Riley, TFM, Blind, Varela to play there.

Valencia is not and will never be a FB! and Varela is not UTD standard (he's worse than Buttner and already 23 so wont get better!)

Valencia is so criminally underrated. He's done well in that position since coming back from injury.

Valencia has been good there and has been very good since his return. And Varela did very well when he played also. Defo don't need a FB.

Valencia is a wall against poor teams, but he always ***** himself vs. serious opposition.

But yeah, I agree that more fullbacks aren't needed. There's plenty of depth available, this season was a freakish bad luck with so many injuries. Having all of CBJ//Blind/Rojo/Young out on LB, and Darmian/Valencia/Jones/Valera out on RB, is just madness.

Priority would be a pacy RW and an experienced striker to mentor Rashford.

Valencia did well vs city at old Trafford earlier this season if I do recall.

Also he put in solid shifts against Leicester and west ham.

Tbh if we say that maybe only Carrick and Fellaini leave this squad really doesn't need a lot of work to be up there challenging next season. I would say 4 top signings and we would be there then add the young quality we have coming through to supplement the squad and add depth. 4 signings and A new manager this Summer job sorted.
