The Manchester United Thread

This would be something that would actually be good in terms of personnel and Jose-esque, but he won't do it: -

-------------De Gea---------------

Darmian---Smalling--Blind---Shaw

---------------TFM/Carrick----------------------

------------Herrera----Pogba-----------

Mkhitaryan----------------------Martial

-----------------Rashford---------------

Give me this team... pace... power... and would work to counter. Ibra can play in games where we need that alternative option up front.

Valencia exposed today, I don't blame him, he's not a fullback. But at the top level he gets taken apart in terms of his positioning and tracking players. I don't see why Mourinho loves Valencia over Darmian who is a natural fullback.

If we want a no nonsense tough guy midfielder, why don't we play TFM instead of Fellaini? He is much better in a footballing sense as well and probably stronger truth be told.

I'm really sick of seeing Fellaini and Lingard starting week in week out. We have Martial, Depay and Mkhitaryan who are all better than Lingard in an attacking sense. Yes I know his work rate is good but apart from that.

Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, TFM, Carrick and the best we can play is ****** Fellaini in midfield.
Depay isn't better than lingard. More talented? Yes but not better atm. Fellaini does the job well...problem is what he does isn't really useful.

If Depay has had the game time Lingard has had this season I bet he would of contributed more in attacking play. But even if we say ok Depay not we have Martial, Mkhitaryan (that guy who is best Bundesliga player and can't even get in our team it seems).

Idk, Valencia was the least guilty defender today. All hazard did was drift inside. He held his ground and created, perhaps our best chance of the game

Fellaini does his 'job' well which is pretty much playing a 5 yard pass and trying to win the ball. Anyone can do what Fellaini does and I'm convinced TFM would do it better if given the chance. The only thing that seperates Fellaini from our other midfielders (apart from TFM) is his presence.

Or if not him give Carrick a go, you would never see the likes of Kante strolling through our midfield with him there.

If today doesn't change Jose's thinking in terms of personnel then I think we are doomed this season. He needs to change things up.

Mhkitaryan situation is a strange one. He got benched for the first 3 games when I hoped he would be on the team sheet especially given our easy opening fixture list. That would've eased him into the epl. He got injured before city and was forced to play with his injury. He's been injured since then apparently.

My question is, why didn't he play at first? Why was it lingard playing ahead of him?

If you want to continue Herrera in that deeper role then play Schneiderlin in the box to box role. Honestly he was one of the best box to box midfielders in Premier League for Southampton during that time and now he can't even get game time over someone like Fellaini. It's truly baffling.

I thought Jose was trying to ease him in to the environment but I guess not. My guess is as good as yours now.

One thing Lingard is above others is a worker, he puts a real shift in but he lacks quality badly at this level to be useful consistently.

Lingard won't be a regular starter once Mkytarian and Martial are 100% fit and Valencia has been one of our best players in defence and attack this season.

Valencia is good but I think people get fooled by his workhorse demeanour. He is not a natural fullback and Darmian is.

It just seems odd why you would have an internationally acclaimed Right Back who is being wasted away over someone like Valencia who was all over the shop today, just like the rest of our defence.

Lingard is just a work horse with good off the ball movements and the occasional spectacular goal. His role should be that of a super sub...nothing more, nothing less.

Lingard has been one of our most creative players this season according to squaka. Didn't really do anything wrong today. Or right for that matter. But neither did anyone. I agree Mou needs to start picking his strongest team and settling on a formation. Shame Martial and Mky have been injured and Cartick can't play to games in a week anymore and Depay is shot confidence wise. Can't wait for Mou to have his squad and not a mish mash from Fergie, Lvg and Moyes.

Theatre of dreams is right, this isn't really jose's team yet. His teams strength and character typically stems from defensive midfield and atm, we lack a pure DM. A DM's role in a team is soo underappreciated these days. Arsenal's transformation came fron promoting coquelin. Mourinho's Chelsea became much better when matic was bought. I suspect he'll be more ruthless in the next 2 windows, shipping out deadwood.

PS, idk what happened to schniederlin but it looks like his united career is over

I don't buy the Mkhi story Mourinho says, he avoided international break to work on his match fitness and be ready yet still hasn't featured after.

I think TFM could fill that role, it would be risky but not as much as playing Fellaini week in, week out is as TFM actually knows how to play football and has that dutch intelligence to play a position.

Was a terrible display today. Defenders looked out of sorts. Midfield was disorganised. Attack was just not effective at all.

Jose needs to get tactics working but the players need to play good as well.

One thing is for sure before the next international break we need 6 points in our two league fixtures against Burnley and Swansea to stand any chance of doing anything meaningful this season.

We have City midweek for the EFL cup but honestly I don't give a **** about that, does anyone? It's against City so bit more to it but it really doesn't matter.

Valencia does okay as a makeshit fullback, but he always, always gets murdered in the big games.

Yeh, pretty much this. It's mind boggling though when Mourinho is renowned for his defence how he didn't atnticipate this before today as he would be up against Hazard. I'd much rather Darmian facing him than Valencia.
