The Manchester United Thread

If they want an unhappy player and wages on their books for another season I guess that's their problem. Personally I think they are having trouble selling some of their players like Rodriguez because of their demands.

I think this Lukaku signing makes sense for a lot of reasons, I'm not totally happy but there is a lot to be positive about with this deal. Not only just the player we're getting but the message it sends to Madrid, the Morata money was going on M'bappe, where is that coming from now? Who are Chelsea replacing Costa with now? They could be left in a market with very few options now.

Is he though unhappy? Only thing that is for certain is that he said after CL final that any player would be crazy to leave Madrid now and that he hopes to play more next season.

Also that Morata and/or James money going to Mbappé was all paper talk again. Real could easily buy him without selling anyone off the team, but the main thing I believe is selling someone to make space for him. They are more than happy to let him stay at Monaco for a year to develop some more and in a way confirm his value.

Chelsea if United do sign Lukaku will be truly the losers of this development. I think they will move for Belotti, but will need to pay the release clause of € 100 million or possibly make a move for Aubameyang.

Would be quite happy if we got Lukaku good goalscorer which is what we need and not the worst fee that could be imagined for him. To turn it round to Everton's POV 75 million for a player with two years left on his deal and saying he won't re-sign is a good deal for them and Lukaku get's CL football so everyone wins.

On a sidenote if Chelsea were interested they have had a very slow summer still nothing on Bakayoko despite constant links and now this. Not sure if it is because they seem to be masters of stealing in at the end of a deal but, I always feel they act quickly and decisively in the market which hasn't been seen this summer

cant see anything but a lukaku move to united from what im hearing right now.dont belive what i read/hear until i hear it from multiple reliable sources and that is now the case

Lukaku would be a good signing for any team in the world.
He doesn't turn up against the big teams? Does Everton?

For your sake ( the fans that is), I just hope Mourinho doesn't utilise him the same way he did with Costa. The big bully up top. He is too good for that, just like Costa. Very powerful and surprisingly technical players.

Ignore everything above if the deal doesn't go through :D

On the whole Lukaku big game thing a certain match where he scored a hat trick against the league champions does spring to mind

Generally he needs to step up in big matches, but with better service and players around him I'm sure he can.

I will come a little in my pants if we get Lukaku, perfect Zlatan replacement!

Ive wanted Lukaku for years so really hope we pull this off. I always said Chelsea was mad to get rid of him when they did because he was basically a Drogba clone that could have eased his way in and eventually took over from Drogba. £75m for a player that consistently scores in the Premiership every year, and doing so in a mid table team, is pretty good considering you would expect him to go up a couple of levels in a world class team.

As for Morata, could he not play in a similar way to Griezmann? Somewhere in the 3 behind the striker, most likely the left? Im sure thats how Juve used him with Higuain up top so both could play together if need be. Certainly not gonna spend that much on both players and have one of them on the bench every week.

Agree about Lukaku - Thought half the point in Chelsea buying him in the first place was to be a Drogba replacement.

And I'm not sure if Higuain played in the Juve team while Morata was there, wasn't he still at Napoli?

no higuain didnt play with morata

Juve tended to play a 4-3-1-2 when Morata was there with him as the deeper striker I think

Either way it doesnt matter. Swap Higuain for Mandzukic. Im sure Morata didnt lead the line, and played on the left doing donkey work

I think frustration more than laziness, but one thing Mourinho won't accept is that anyway, so I'm not worried. He wouldn't be making this signing if he was worried about his mentality. Although I do question now whether it was Mourinho's choice to sell him or the board at Chelsea. Personally I'm thinking the latter if this signing happens.

It was Mourinho's choice. His assessment of Lukaku has now changed.
