The Manchester United Thread

We need this game back - In 1978, for Colin Bell's testimonial, players from City and United lined up side by side against a combined Liverpool and Everton team in a Manchester v Merseyside fixture.

The "**** the SUN" charity match or something. Name your lineups people :)

*Edit* Removed as what I wanted to say came over wrong and I'm still struggling to express it properly.

Well that was a mad game. I don't think I'd of liked to of been a part of the crowd that day in 1978. That'd be an open 4 way free-for-all! Lol.

I'm in the only one that hasn't been impressed with Lindelof? I think he's a waste of £30 million. He has that problem John stones had: All he knows how to do is pass but he can't defend for ****.

Can't tell after 3 pre-season games, a bit premature to call him waste? :(

I don't think so 4 of the starting 5 all played together last season. Lindelöf could a little but we got him in before the tour so should be to bad.

As noted, I know absolutely jack on Lindelof like the majority so can't comment, but regardless of him, if van Dijk hadn't fallen for Klopp so early and Southampton had gotten their auction, I wonder how heavily Utd would have been involved?

I know the line now would be they never would have. But I find it real hard to think they wouldn't had Arsenal, Chelsea, City and Liverpool all been bidding against each other.

But he already looks terrible... *facepalm* :D lol.

United would have don with VVD same as everyone else, got the quoted price. thought **** that and moved onto Lindeflof anyway.

Like any of those clubs outside of Arsenal and L'pool ever walk away from a price if they know they can get the player.

But it's a nice story. ;)

Tbh we wanted lindelöf in Jan. They wouldn't sell so we worked on a deal for the summer instead. We have never shown any interest in VVD.

I dunno'. Woodward walk away from all the big clubs bidding for a major signing? I find that one hard to buy but we'll never know.

Legend Incredimaria - I'm all for freedom of speech, but to be brutally honest, your posts have been pretty shocking of late. I mean, WTF has Joel Pereira ever shown for you to be an awkward customer and completely dismiss him? He's shown absolutely nothing to be dismissed, and the same goes for Lindelof - he's had nothing/very little to do in these few Pre Season games (may I remind you, everyone in Pre-Season aren't fully fit & sharp) so how are you forming these bold/weird opinions? I'm all ears.

One thing I'll never question Mourinho on is his judgement on CB's, signed a relatively unknown (to the average football fan) gem in Bailly, and I have confidence he's done it again with Victor.

Van Dijk is borderline WC in my opinion, but what's to say Mourinho hasn't nicked a Swede from that category for half the asking price? When it came down to it, may have been one of those "Why would I sign a player for £60M when I have a player in Portugal at a similar level/similar ceiling for half that price?" (based on how highly Mourinho rates Victor).

For what it's worth, I do think Van Dijk was one of the alternative's on Jose's list.

Very curious to see Lindelof the PL.

Like you and most Utd fans Rh I know next to nottin' about him in reality so this assertion that he's either 'boss' or he's 'wank' I find most bizarre. But again, like you, were I a Utd fan with this manager I'd be feeling cautiously/fairly optimistic that he must be pretty good and a good fit.

man its a little unfair to be judging lindelof sooooo early i mean hes played like 3 or 4 pre season games.Surely we have learnt from the past, look at vidic and evra when the joined!patience seems to have dissapeared from this world altogether

So, what's happened with Fabinho? He was practically crying out for us to come get him. A quality, versatile player who can operate in the two areas we need more quality/depth in. Strange if we don't snap him up this summer imo.

Monaco may not want to sell or whatever, but if a player wants to leave then there's always a price
