The Manchester United Thread

Nah, it was a dig towards Lukaku since both of them offer little exept 'goalscoring threat'.

Oh behave. Quicker, stronger, better hold up play, more presence, decent at combining with the forward nearest to him, etc. Yes he's no Lionel Messi technically, but he's a well rounded CF.

Shaw MOTM for me. That’s what we’ve been missing. Those bombing runs from the left, getting in behind the defender cutting the ball back or getting in good crosses. Young’s been good. But he’s more off a come back and cross player, mainly because he’s right footed. And he doesn’t really make those overlapping runs in behind to get onto through balls. Hope Shaw has a future with us! Him and Rose would be quality options.

Thought Lukaku was very good again last night. Hold up play and link up play we’re good. And that finish was great and hopefully turns the tide on his barron spell. Not that he’s been playing bad. Pogba was good running the show with Mata drifting in.

Nice to see Tuanzebe and McTominey get 20 mins ish. Also thought Lindelöf had another very good game again. Looking like the player I thought we had signed from the get go. A good CB with very good build up play from the back.

The most positive thing for me last night was Herrera. Thought he was very good breaking up play putting in tackles and reading the game well. And looks to have played himself back into a bit of form, before the Derby. As him and Matic will be absolutely instrumental in us getting a positive result come Sunday.

Agree with everything here, I even think Pogba had a "bad" game compared to his standards, but he still had a great game. That just shows what a good player he is

Mourinho on Man Utd's injured players' chance of playing v Man City: "Eric Bailly no chance for the weekend, Phil Jones a chance, Fellaini a chance, Zlatan a big chance and Matic is injured but will play for sure. Carrick, no chance."

If we get the old Shaw back to his best form early LVG era before leg break, seriously we don't need to spend £50m on Rose.

We only need a LB like Rose if Shaw doesn't take this chance, because Young is a suitable backup for him. Spending £50m on another LB would be very pointless if Shaw shines again.

Manchester United have given Jose Mourinho the green light for important mid-season improvements to a squad competing on four fronts for silverware.

A January transfer budget “in the region of €90million” is an endorsement of the managers achievement in leading United to two major trophies in his first season at the club and United’s strongest start to an English Premier League campaign since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.

The Old Trafford board’s support for Mourinho’s efforts to prevent a Manchester City squad enriched by unprecedented spending on transfer fees and salaries from taking the title is also seen as an indication that it will extend the 54-year-old’s contract as manager.

Discussions are understood to have taken place between the club and Mourinho’s agent on renewing a deal that expires in 2019.

Of more importance to the Portuguese coach is accelerating the structural improvement of a squad that enters this weekend’s Manchester derby eight points behind City despite scoring 35 times in 15 Premier League fixtures and posting the division’s best defensive record.

Hope Baldy is right about Mourinho new contract!

Can we seriously stop using Duncan Castles as any kind of source. He's an awful sycophant.

....and Traore signed as well? 'The next Paul Pogba'

Awesome
He had already signed in the Summer. His clearence just came through. Watched his debut at the weekend. Very impressed! With his size and ability he will soon be promoted to the 23s. Maybe next season with a few others. Like Tanner, Oconner, Gomes, Burkart, Barret, Barlow.

Seen a bit of the yootoob video - having moved to New Zealand a few years ago not so 'up' with stuff going on anymore. Traore looks **** good, confident and good with his feet.

Scouts in Attendance

#mufc have signed 15yo #rsca MF Eliot Matazo through the Lukaku family...#mcfc #rbleipzig #Schalke #asmonaco were also interested.

Verliest Anderlecht gegeerd talent van 15? Youngster wordt ge

Since the start of last season our Scouting and youth recruitment has been absolutely fantastic at all age groups between 19-13 years of age! Don’t know much about this lad except an Anderlecht fan told me he’s one of the highest rated youth CMs in the country. And at the age of 15 is already playing for the u18s at club and international level full time. And has made his first team club debut already.

Looking forward to to seeing this lad and new CF Gomez coming through with the other additions we have signed. Signed a lot of highly rated youngsters from around Europe since start of last season.

Mourinho confirms at his press conference that Ibrahimovic and Jones are fit to face City. Bailly and Carrick out. Decision on Fellaini will be made tomorrow. Matic "is injured but will play".

Mourinho on Manchester derby, "To me? It means one more big match against one of the best teams in the country."

Jose on City: "Very good. We're a better team than last year, no doubt about it. I think City are also a better team than last season."

Mourinho, "This is a football match where I wish everything goes well for the fans. If taken in the right way, derbies are beautiful."

Mourinho on football identity in Manchester, "I live a little bit isolated from society, it's all about the training ground and the hotel, I don't feel it too much, I don't have that communication. I don't need that to know a derby is special."

Mourinho on size difference between teams and possible set piece advantage, "I think it will be easy for Kompany to compete against Mata in the air."

Sarky ******* haha.

You just know Mata is going to score the winner with a header, beating Kompany

From the embargo bit of Mourinho presser lol!

Jose on @ManCity: "They are a good team. They defend well, react when they lose ball. Have good dynamic in attack, creative movement, amazing players + fantastic coach. 1 thing I don’t like is they lose their balance very easily. A little a bit of wind and they fall.” :)

Mourinho's 'diving' comments about City quite clever. Sunday's referee Michael Oliver has given three penalties against #mufc and one for them in the last five games he's officiated them.

Liverpool u18s vs Utd u18s

At The Cliff Training Ground
Kick off at 11am BST
Live on MUTV

Man Utd
XI: Fojitcek, Tanner, Laird, Ercolani, O'Connor (C), Garner, Chong, Traore, Mellor, Greenwood, Barlow
Subs: Williams, Carney, Levitt, Puigmal, Baars

Fojitcek
Tanner - Ercolani - O'Connor (C) - Laird
Garner - Traore
Chong - Greenwood - Barlow
Mellor

The Cliff today! #mufc: @mufcbeckham.

Liverpool captain Adam Lewis sent off after taking Chong out for the 3rd time. Mellor puts Utd 1-0 up after dominating from the start. Chong, Greenwood, Barlow, Traore been good so far. Chong tearing them to shreds. New signing Traore dominating CM (shades of Pogba/Rabiot about this lad!) and Greenwood and Barlow creating at will. Should be more up.

1-1 horrendous mistakes at the trying to play out from the back and losing the ball Millar with the goal. Lol 2-1 to Pool now despite being a man down. 2 quick goals at the start of the second half. McKenna will be fuming with the back 5 there overplaying far to much! And then Greenwood misses from 6 yards out to level. Defo more goals in this game!
