The Manchester United Thread

Z's like a little brother. We like to joke with him, kick him from time to time, treat him "specially", but deep down, we all like him.
Compare him to Scouse. I strongly disagree with Scouse on so many bases, but difference is - Scouse is proper football fan, who loves football and attends most, if not all L'pool games. That guy offers nothing, he's probably a moderator on RedCafe.

Don't follow this man's example. It'll lead you to no money and some very ****** females through your life and other opportunities you should never have lost.

On the other hand, you'll have what money can't buy and what the game is all about. Memories and moments.

One day, he might grow up.

but as long as your having fun thats all that matters and growing up is overated

So the inevitable relegation to PL2 that’s been on the cards for 2 seasons now was confirmed with Derbys win this avvy.

Something gone MAJORLY wrong there considering all the money Utd have been throwing at the youth ranks.

Npt really. The under 18s are much stronger than the under 23s, And Ricky has been awful as u23 coach

We haven’t bought any players for the u23s for god knows how long. All the investment has been at u18 level and lower the last 2 seasons. All we’ve done this year is give some of the better more slightly developed and older u18s game time at a higher level. And shipped out all the good u 23s our on loan.

Next season I will be surprised if more than 7 of the current u23 lot will be here. It will be a start of a new cycle for the academy and u23s in particular. It will be basically full set of current u18s playing u23 football next season except a very small amount of the current u23s. Also expect more investment at u18 level and lower again in the Summer.

All relative though isn't it being the bridge below the first team? A lot of those 17/18-year-old investments then make up the 23's.

Simply put, there isnt the same level of talent in the under 23s. The best are already on loan and most of these guys still here arent making it. The investment has gone into the level below, its these guys that are looking really promising

Yeah I don't know much about United's u23, but I would imagine that in most clubs players in those teams are a basically rejects. I mean, if you're really talented, at that age you should be already knocking on the first team door or at least play professional football somewhere on a loan instead dicking around in a youth team.

**** and Murtaugh recently said that if kids at Utds academy aren’t knocking on the 1st team door by the age of 20/21 then there likely to never make it at Utd.

Southampton's team is in the second division already and not looking like they will be promoted doesn't stop them bringing through talent, one place above Fulham who have also brought through some good players. Tottenham have brought through some good players and are ninth out of 12 teams feel like you'd be very hard pushed to find any correlation between where the U-23 sides are in the table and how many minutes young players get at their club and first team players produced. Everton are 7th and have produced a lot of good young talent that is already playing first team football instead of playing for their U-23 side

And there's a big drop off in the standard of opposition between the mainly Championship academy D2 to D1. Which for all the money invested is not a good scenario in development for next season at least.

Something has gone badly awry when that's happened the resources Utd throw at the youth ranks. That was the simple point ninja. Not too clever.

We haven’t thrown any resources at the u23s Scouse we don’t sign players from that age. And most of the coaches at that age group have been there for years. All the good players have gone out on loan or promoted from that age group.

And with most most of the ones being promoted from the 18s next season being just turned 18 or will be 17/16 maybe won’t be a bad thing for such a young group to be playing 1 division lower.

All the money has been invested at coaching and players at u18 level and lower and that’s why you can see a huge turn around in league form and why we have done so well in every comp/tournament we entered which wasn’t the case last year. Except the fa youth cup this season. Also we have a lot more youth players now getting selected for there national sides at u23 level. The u23 has been basically been forgotten about for the last season to get the best players out on loan, get some mins to the promising u18s in prep for next season, and will have nearly all of the current lot leave in the Summer to make way for the u18 to take over and will be the start of the club getting some of these promising u18s a path to the first team.

We could of easily kept TFM, Periera, Johnstone, Tuanzebe, Mitchell, McTominey, Willock, Henderson, Joel, Wilson etc around in the u 23s and it would of been a different story and wouldn’t of been relegated. But we knew it was better to have them out on loan ready to come back and be part of the first team. Or ready for the next step in there development at a new club.

The only grumble I have has been Sbragia. But I’m willing to give him this year as he’s lost all our best current players on loan or to the first team. A few coaches at this level left to be coaches at a higher level. We have had no STR at this age group for 2 years. And most the current lot are never gonna be good enough.

That's twice you've told me that.

Ta and all just not sure why it needed repeating when I never thought nor suggested Utd had?

And what am I missing in the 'huge turn around in league form' at U-18's level? It's an almost identical record to last season.

Sorry my bad Scouse! Meant since we started our overhaul the season before last.

Andreas Pereira: “People said I demanded talks with Jose when I’ve demanded nothing. As far as I’m concerned I’m still a United player, with a contract at Old Trafford until 2020 and an ambition to make it at United. I’ve never sought to leave United. Me and the manager are fine.”

Hoping for a Rojo - Bailly partnership tonight and that we revert back to 4231 with Pogba - Matic and Alexis - Lingard - Mata behind Lukaku

I hope Pogba, Sánchez, Mata are nowhere near the team tonight. Not just because they was all *****. But not worth the risk with Spurs coming up.

From what Jose has said it sounds like both Pogba and Sanchez will be dropped tonight. Also he said places are up for grabs for Spurs so that suggests quite a few rotations. Wouldnt surprise me if both Martial and Rashford start.
