The Manchester United Thread

Yeah. Player of his skill, still good 3 years in him, for 20 milion? In this market its still a bargain.

Especially since he has the Roykeanesse aura about him, something your midfield desperately needs.

Agree with all this, good player, determined, experienced, and a legend at Roma. 20m in this market for a player of that importance isn't overpaying, especially when you consider that Roma know Utd need the player.

Biggest joke in football if it doesn't, offering 30 then being that stubborn not to put another 6. I expect the player would be quite insulted as well.

One question I have to ask is if Herrera has a medical does he have to come to England or can he have it in Spain?

Ozil meant to be having his in Germany, so I presume he can have it immediately in Spain.

Spain. Ozil having his in Germany.

Re: De Rossi. Deal is dead, was always dead once Lamela went. De Rossi is on major money, but he is the heartbeat of the club, only Totti is greater. The only reason he would have left would have been to help the clubs very stretched finances, but they have made 72m this summer. So its over, and it would be the biggest U-turn for him to leave now. Roma fans would probably riot too.

How can De Rossi be too old and not worth the 12m? He would provide a fantastic stop gap option to our midfield, and would beef up our midfield by a lot. Not to mention that he brings steel, grit, determination and leadership into our midfield that is sorely lacking in any of them. Even if he only had 2 years of top quality football left in him he is worth the outlay.

He would not be worth the 12m if Pogba was still here, or if we have any other young prospect that is similar to him. Unfortunately we don't. Cleverley being our second best midfielder currently says a lot. Once Carrick is injured we would have one of the weakest midfield I have ever seen in the past decade or two. And we would easily recoup the amount spent on him if we progress further in the Champions League. Being eliminated in the group stages and the first knockout round in the past 2 years is simply unacceptable for a club of our stature.

Don't get me wrong, I would love De Rossi even if it cost us 25 million, it's just I meant that he would realistically have 3 years at the top of his game, when instead we could get Herrera and Fellaini who are both younger, I don't care about the price, I just care about the future, because De Rossi is a quick fix (fantastic one by all means) but when he ages what if it takes us another 8 years to patch up our midfield like when Keano left in 2005 we have been left wanting ever since. I'd rather have a player who is good now with fantastic potential, than a great player already great but will decline in a few years.
In short I mean stick to the mantra SAF used, buy them young and develop them.

El Mundo reporting Herrera is lowering his wages to make the move. No idea on how much they know though.

If nothing happens then the board are going to be hanging Moyes out to dry for their failings.

Guillem saying that we've offered 36 now and it's all but done.

Dafuq, we may be signing a quality midfielder? Have the heavens opened?

From what I've read he has good leadership qualities as well, which we have none of in the middle.

Herrera? Even i read the same. When things are not going his team's way, he steps up and tries even hard instead of going into hiding. Which is a great attribute to have.

So will Herrera make us play and create chances instead of making us sit back and pass between defenders?

Granted he didn't score much last season and missed all of his chances but one, but this is a new season and has doubled his tally and looks a lot sharper.
I agree with you about Young, he is a bag of ***** and I can still picture Aston Villa laughing all the way to the bank with a 18mill cheque. Valencia is has been terrible for the last season and so far in this one and it makes me nearly cry in frustration when they are both on the pitch at the same time.
Ando I think is good but injured far to often as whenever he plays a couple of good games he gets injured again, and Cleverly is not good enough but yet the fact that he is our second best midfielder (I'm counting Fletcher as retired for the forseeable future) proves our midfield is in a sorry state of affairs.

I don't think we were ever going to get Ozil and we don't really need him as we have Kagawa, but if we were to sign him I'd be happy because the shitstorm form Arsenal fans would be hilarious(but I wouldn't blame them).

On a separte note, we have just had a 12 mill bid for De Rossi rejected. I would love him, but is he too old? And by "too old" I mean he would only help the midfield for a couple of years before we have to replace him "too old".

1. He only looked sharper vs Swansea. Against LFC he looked totally out of his depth.
2. Kagawa should be used more. And not on the wings but in his real position ie the hole behind the cf. Wellbeck CANNOT play there. His energy which is the one thing he has a lot of means he's better employed on a "free role" on the flanks.
3. Ando is technically good but he's too fat/seems to tire quickly/was never given a run in the team. VALENCIA had one v good season but he's a one legged one trick pony whose trick has been found out.
4. Unfortunately signs are that FLETCHER wont play again. Which for me is a crying shame cos I absolutely loved him.
5. De Rossi is NOT too old. Ive never seen him play badly and even if he gives us two good years (tho he's the kind of player that I can see playing for a long time a la GIGGS) he would be worth it as his class would make a difference especially in Europe. As far as Im concerned we are missing 3 players: a player like Rossi to boss the Mf, a player like FELLAINI to be the link between Rossi and the playmaker and a playmaker (somebody like WILLIAN/ERIKSEN - HERRERA was awesome the year before last but last season he suffered with the rest of ATHLETIC so its impossible to know whether he's a flash in the pan or the real deal).

Anyway a couple of weeks ago I wrote in this thread about my worries about MOYES and our inactivity in the tranny market and was accused of acting like a hysterical **** fan. Our last couple of matches have done nothing to alleviate my fears and if we dont recruit midfielderS it will be a long hard season.

From what I've seen of Herrera in the past watching Spanish football he's a cracking midfielder, United will be lucky to get him, creative and he's hard working, always put's in 100%. Fantastic passer of the ball aswell.

Any news on Fellaini? Is it dead or?

According to everyone it's as good as done but I'm not sure until I see a big wig approaching the M62.

Where are you getting this from? Cos the sites Im looking at say this is dead in the water ...

Last season included?
Of course not last season mate. It was a bad season overall for the club and they were no where near up to usual scratch but Herrera was still near enough they're best player. It is tough for a player to stand out when a team is playing badly. Only world class players tend to have the quality to pick themselves up in those sort of situations - and Herrera is not world class - but he is a great player and he'll definitely improve your midfield. He is better than what you already have and that is what is important!

Why do you say that? Bilbao had a generally bad season, you can't immediately impact that on to Herrera.

Im not impacting it on him. As i say in my post he's had one brill season. Last season he suffered together with the rest of the team. So no way of knowing if he is the real deal or a flash in the pan.

Plus, it was not a philosophical question. I genuinely wanted you to tell me ...
