The Manchester United Thread

Hamsik was fantastic last year and this year has been plagued by injuries, even still I highly doubt Hamsil would move

More importantly Hamsik isn't really a CM. He played a bit deeper under Mazzari, but that was within 3-4-3 or whatever freak system they had at the time.

Benitez plays him as a fairly straightforward AM.

How much world class players for this one position can you possibly need? What are you, Bayern?

Well, you need to understand our position. We were calling for quality midfielders over 5-6 years now, now we gotta catch 'em all.

Who needs intelligent, creative midfielder who can score :(

Hamsik plays behind the striker and not even sure when was the last time he played as CM. Rooney plays behind the striker and in almost same role and he isn't doing bad job in scoring goals. It's not like Hamsik is playing goals from midfield position.

Hasn't Hamsik been due for a move to a big European club since like forever?

I think Hamisk can handle CM position, he has been playing there for majority of his carrier :)

Hasn't he been playing attacking mid for the majority of his career? apart from some random time playing deeper in a 343 he's pretty much always sat behind the strikers, either playing as an attacking midfielder or as a shadow striker. He's pretty dire defensively.

This would be a pretty unbalanced midfield, to be honest:
Nani - Rooney - Januzaj
Fellaini/Carrick - Hamš?k

And unless Van Persie is dropped, that is pretty much the only midfield Moyes can play if Hamsik is signed. So no, the signing of Hamš?k probably isn't needed.

Rooney Welbeck Van Persie Hernandez

Hamsik Kagawa Nani Januzaj Fellaini

Carrick

De Gea.

1-5-4. **** the police.

Are you saying Napoli aren't a big European club?! :O

Well they haven't done much since Maradona days.

Also only 2 serie A titles and 1 UEFA cup in their history. I'm sure Wolves's trophy cabinet is bigger than that.

Also they are doing well from last 2-3 years but their best bet is to qualify for a CL from a league where big teams are in major crisis.

The amount of revisionism done regarding Scholes ability in the game is staggering ... Yes he was a very very good player but not some once in a 1000 years playmaking genius that people are making him out to be now

Sorry for bringing this old post up, just that it would be good to see what one of the greatest ever midfielder Xavi thinks about Scholes.

From an EA blog After the final between Barca and United 2011
"After the final whistle on Saturday, Xavi, Messi, Pedro, Iniesta and Busquets all wanted to swap shirts with Scholes, so they drew straws and Iniesta won and got to swap with him. There is a lot of talk about him retiring so they were feeling like it could be the last time they play against him.

Also, the same story says that Busquets had hung on to the match ball and gave it to Scholes. For players like the 5 mentioned, and the esteem people hold them in, to take time out of their celebrations says a lot. It shows the class and humility of the Barca players for starters. But it also says a lot about the esteem that Scholes is held in amongst his peers and those who have played against him.

Xavi's quote earlier this year backs that up too:

"A role model. For me, and I really mean this, he's the best central midfielder I've seen in the last 15, 20 years. He's spectacular, he has it all, the last pass, goals, he's strong, he doesn't lose the ball, vision. If he'd been Spanish he might have been rated more highly. Players love him."

Scholes has admirers all over the world and especially from the players who played with and against him.

Even Steven Gerrard once said Joe Cole was better than Messi ...
