The Manchester United Thread

I think, were keeping berbatov and mechada and having 4 strikers now, owen will go. and yea besides from that, ur squad was right.

also, i think kushzak will stay on the bench.

but i want Phil Jones for defence, Wilson Palacios (very strong and enforcing) and nasri (very good playmaker and prem proven), bet we could get them a bit cheap. and De Gea if rumours are true has already signed so all good,

Palacios hasn't been the same since his brother was killed, real shame. Nasri will not be sold to United from Arsenal, Wenger sometimes does the un-expected, but it would need a 35+ bid to even tempt Arsenal, as they're in no need to sell. I think Modric would be better anyway, and a more realistic target. And hands off! Phil Jones is ours! =P
But what do I know.

Good player. Hopefully he comes back even better.

Sampdoria got relegated so couldn't see them signing him. I'd loan him to the likes of Everton or Sunderland for the full year and see how he develops

My transfer would be:

IN
David de Gea £16m
Ashley Young £15m
Jack Rodwell/Marouane Felliani £20m
Wesley Sneijder £10m + Nani
Luka Modric £20m + Berbatov

OUT
Kuszczak £2m
Brown £2m
Obertan £5m
Nani
Berbatov (don't want him to leave but after last nite I think its almost certain)
Macheda (loan)
Bebe (loan)

You want Modric and Sneijder?

My Transfers would be:

IN
David De Gea
Ashley Young
Jack Rodwell
Luka Modric
Raphael Varane

Plus Cleverley, Welbeck, Macheda and Diouf coming back

OUT
Tomasz Kuszczak
Wes Brown
Obertan (Loan)
Bebe (Loan)
Berbatov
Hargreaves (Released)
Scholes (Retirement)
Maybe Owen
De Laet (Loan/Sold)

You know what every time something like this happens I start worrying so much that I get depressed. I know many people will say that I'm exaggerating bu it is true;that's how much the club means to me and to console myself I start search for Alex ferguson's comments which are always consoling and that's when I found this

Manchester United Alex Ferguson takes no consolation in being second best to Barcelona and has vowed to keep trying to improve his team - News - MirrorFootball.co.uk

and please I beg and ask all United fans to get behind the team and support them and please make some good comments so I can cheer up! I know I may sound that we just got relegated but I get very upset when something like this happens. So please please please post some good encouraging comments!

They're in no need to sell? Nasri has just over a year left on his contract & it doesn't look like he's going to extend it so they'll want to sell him & they won't be able to demand such an extraordinary fee.....they'd have to sell him to us if we were the only team interested.

Or just keep him. What gives you the impression he's not going to extend it?

Indeed. Never knew he assaulted his mum, what a *****.

Maybe he wants to win some silverware? Clichy doesn't look like he'll sign either, and I can gurantee that they won't let them run down their contract like Flamini. If they haven't signed on by the end of July then I'd expect them to be transfer listed.

He wouldn't even play at Man United though. He's not a central midfielder, you've already got your Nani and Valenica, with Ashley Young probably joining too.

Firstly, he would play, because he is quality & Fergie rotates like Basketball teams do.

Secondly, I didn't say he was definately going to join us. I was merely pointing out that (A) he wouldn't cost £35M & (B) Arsenal might need to sell.

Thirdly, Samir Nasri wants to play through the centre, which is another reason why he might be leaving Arsenal, so he'd be perfect for us.

and fourthly i can guarantee Samir Nasri wont join Man Utd and that he will sign a new contract

1. Nasri has thrived on the right hand side - would he really replace Valencia and Nani? Would he take that risk? When has he ever said he wants to play through the middle? He doesn't play there for Arsenal because he isn't good enough in the 'Cesc role'. He doesn't and won't ever understand it because he's a completely different player.

2. Not sure how you can say it doesn't look like either of them will sign new contracts. Nasri wants parity in wages with Fabregas but Wenger has been saying for a while that talks would happen in the summer, not in January when we had four trophies to chase. He wanted him to prove himself over a whole season and not get distracted.

3. Doubt very much he'd join Utd and Arsenal won't sell. Especially not cheaply.

I didn't realise you have to play in the "Cesc'' role to be deemed good enough for central midfield :S The fact is, he has played centrally, for both Arsenal, Marseille & France. On another forum I'm on, a Gooner said he wanted to play through the middle, so I assumed that was correct. I suppose all we can do is wait for these summer talks to happen, personally I think he'll be leaving but we shall see...

Joss, I do agree with you on most in this discussion, but I don't view him as a winger at all. More as an Özil-type AMC.

The fact is that he has rarely played centrally for Arsenal and has thrived on the right hand side. My point about the Cesc role was that a) Utd don't play with, and haven't for a while played with an AMC. It's pretty much always been 2 deep lying CMs. I'm not sure SAF wants to change that especially with the emergence of Rooney as a False 9.

b) What United need is a player like Modric - naturally a CM, not an AMC but a player who can drive on from deep positions and has the passing ability to match. Nasri isn't intelligent enough to fill that gap because he can't pick out the same pass that Fabregas, Wilshere, Modric or someone like Scholes can. He doesn't have a range of passing..

Anyway- we simply don't know, but I'm 90% sure he'll stay at Arsenal and I'm 99.9% sure he wouldn't go to Utd.

He's not a winger in the traditional sense. More of a wide-forward. More advanced and actually spending a lot of his time in the ST position due to the way our tactics work.

we do play with one when we deploy park but he isnt hugely creative

we actually require a player who can play both roles, MC when rooney plays 10, and AMC when he plays False nine, hence the chasing of Sneijder over Modric

wee play 2 deep lying cms becuase scholes cannot break forwards, its much more dynamic when anderson is played

I follow you, Joss. I do find it amusing though that an Arsenal and a Chelsea supporter are discussing Nasri over a Man Utd thread.

Well it's more about whether he'd fit into the United system to be fair..

I think he would, and he'd look great in the #7 shirt. We'll throw in Wes Brown as part of the deal ;)

I can guarantee that Nasri won't join but I can't guarantee that he will sign a new contract.

Anyway, why are you all talking about Nasri on a Man Utd thread. Silly rumour to begin with and not helped by Evra encouraging him.
