The Manchester United Thread

It's a 'Major Trophy' now? lolololol.

PS: No it isn't.

To qualify for the Community Shield, you must become either Premiership or FA cup winners or at least be 2nd in the league

To qualify for the Emirates cup, you need to be looking for some cheap money

The Winner of the Community Shield is also has a 80% chance of winning the league.

Community Shield > Emirates Cup any day

How on Earth do you work that out.

I laugh at the embarrassment of listing that as an 'honour' whether it's Arsenal or not.

big JOKE!!!!

Its just a curtain raiser for the new season.. I wouldn't really count it as trophy but its good to win it nonetheless. Better to keep the momentum going and I want my players to take every match seriously and try to win it no matter how lesser the trophy is..

I made up 80% but if you look at the stats:

Winners of Community Shield and whether they go on to win the league

2005 - Chelsea-YES
2006 - Liverpool-NO
2007 - Manchester United-YES
2008 - Manchester United-YES
2009 - Chelsea-YES
2010 - Manchester United-YES

Before this it was like winners of Charity shield wont win the league. We broke that one in 2007 though..

England call for Cleverley

Skysports.com understands Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley has been called up to the England squad for Wednesday's friendly against Holland.

and he impressed as a second-half substitute in Sunday's Community Shield win over Manchester City.

The youngster has previously represented England's Under 21s, but has been drafted into the senior squad for the first time by coach Fabio Capello.

More to follow...

Im glad for him! Maybe this should have been posted in England squad thread, but i wanted to put it here :D

Micah Richards:
“I didn’t think it was like a usual derby. There were no flying tackles.

He was clearly sleeping in the game if he thinks there were no flying tackles.

And very happy for Cleverely. Looks like his reputation is growing sooner than expected (If the sky news is true)

1 game has no effect on the outcome of a 38 game season. >.< By your logic, Stoke had a 50% chance to win the FA cup, and would have had a 50% chance to win the CS. So, you're saying Stoke have a 20% chance of winning the league?

Richards is simply such a tank that he deemed the flying tackles that were present regular tackles.

Cleverley will be a beast in the future, **** of a youngster Utd and England have there.

I want City to play Barca in champions league group stages just to see how Barca will cope up with those flying tackles..

Worlds greatest football club? I might disagree with that :D Both spanish giants are still ahead i think? Atleast Madrid is.

But great job in starting this.

United are the biggest club in the world. No question about that.

Sorry but Madrid is bigger. We may have bigger fan base, but they have better history.

Well the CS clearly shows the winners are much better than the winners of the Emirates cup. Seriously the money that comes along with it is worth more than the Emirates cup `

Funny how my comment/joke about "Captain" Rafael has turned into a debate about the Community Shield being better than the Emirates Cup. :P
anyway, great to hear that Cleverley has been called up to the England squad.

Despite only being a "meaningless" friendly, yesterdays game at Wembley was one of the best I've been too in a little while, certainly for atmosphere (not so much out of the hard empty end of Citys fans) and the joy of coming from 2-0 to win like we did. Very impressed with the youngsters, Tom Cleverly being the one that stood out most for me, really made me eat my words yesterday which I am glad, I enjoy nothing more than to see home grown players come through the ranks at the club. Danny Welbeck, Jonny Evans and Phil Jones also impressed.

Brilliant news that Clevers has been rewarded with his fine pre-season form and match winning performance yesterday with an England call up, hopefully he'll be given some game time to boast his growing confidence even more.

How'ever, being a gready *******, I would still like to see someone like Wesley Sneijder to come in just to make our brilliant squad even better.

Roll on the trip to Baggies which I will be attending, exciting season ahead I think :)
