Besiktas confirm that Bebe has suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury while playing for Portugal U21's. Expected to miss 6 months. There will be a joint decision on where the surgery takes place.
The former United skipper reckons the Red Devils will stroll to a defence of the title they claimed last year, having bought shrewdly over the summer, adding David de Gea, Ashley Young and Phil Jones.
"Even Sir Alex Ferguson said the other day the league's getting tougher. But I don't think so," Keane said in the Sun. "If United are really at it, which they will be, they'll win it comfortably. Even last year when United were slipping up, no team was strong enough to take advantage of it.
"United have bought well. People talk about losing experience and I appreciate that Van der Sar, Neville and Scholes have all retired. But they have good young players coming through - and Wayne Rooney can play better than he did last season.
"When you look at the players they have left behind, they have Vidic, Rio, Darren Fletcher - these are all international players. And Giggsy is still there, too. United don't let players go unless they know they have players coming through to replace them.
"Ashley Young and Phil Jones are good players, Chris Smalling is coming through and Danny Welbeck is a good player coming back after being on loan at Sunderland last season.
"And when the older lads come to the end in four or five years, you'll have the likes of Jones and Smalling to step in with five or six years experience behind them. It's like a machine. You can talk all you like about other teams getting stronger but, for me, United have got stronger as well.
"They're going to do the business. Of all the teams, if one has the balance right I believe it's United."
Keane is reluctant to criticise new Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas, preferring instead to focus on the deep-rooted issues that plagued the Blues last season, prompting Carlo Ancelotti's dismissal at the end of the season.
"Everybody is on about this new young manager [Villas-Boas] - but I don't think the manager will be the problem," Keane said. "It's always the players down there, they all seem to self-destruct. They're big pals one minute and the next you hear they're all bickering with each other and players aren't happy if someone else scores."
As for Liverpool, Keane suggests their transfer business has focused on the wrong areas. Kenny Dalglish has spent heavily in midfield areas, bringing in Stewart Downing, Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson - but the defence still looks short on depth, and they have shipped in goals during pre-season friendlies, losing 3-0 at Galatasaray and Hull and drawing 3-3 with Valerenga.
"Liverpool have bought good attacking players but I think it's actually defenders that they need," Keane said. "I think we've seen that a little bit in pre-season. Don't get carried away, Liverpool are in no position to win the league, nowhere near.
"Kenny Dalglish is the right man for the job. They've spent big money and bought good players - Luis Suarez is strong, Charlie Adam is a good player, but that was at Blackpool, and it's a big challenge for him.
"I gave Jordan Henderson his debut at Sunderland and he's a really good player. But to improve your team and to win the Premiership are two different things."
I was talking about Ersan Adem Gülüm, who is probably the most important defender in our team. He was out for 6 months, we paid the money and transferred him anyway. He joined the trainings, one week later he suffered the same injury, he is out for another 6 months now and it will probably affect his footballer life after this point...
And recently everyone was talking about Bebe. He was very poor in Man Utd and almost no one liked this loan deal in Besiktas, but in this 2months period he was simply brilliant, in fact best one in trainings as reporters says. His interviews were also great, he kept saying that it will be his year and told how great he feels himself... He played very well in friendly games too and i was expecting a great performance from him this season. And now, he suffered the same injury and out for 6 months.....
This injuries are the same injuries Ronaldo suffered, you all know how this injury affected Ronaldo...
You know what's the funny part? There is a #10 Curse in our club... Our legendary footballer Hakki Yeten (aka Baba(Papa) Hakki) is one of most important players in Turkish Football History and he used to wear number 10. And everyone in Besiktas who wore #10 after him always had a curse on them and because of that no one picks #10 in Besiktas. 2 days ago the club wanted players to pick their numbers and as Bebe saw #10 free, he choosed it, the club announced the number on official website. We (in Besiktas Forums) saw Bebe wearing number 10 and typed plenty of jokes about it like "****, i was expecting a lot from him, he will be useless now for sure", "Number 10? It was nice knowing you Bebe" etc... And now "the curse" affected him too...
**** #10...
Keane has hit the nail on the head there.

"Maybe it could be the core of a new England team," said the 26-year-old winger.
"I am sure the manager has bought players who are coming through in order to add to the youth we already had."
"After Patrice (Evra) went off (in Sunday's victory over City) I was the oldest player on the pitch at 26."
It is nice that the players who are coming through are getting that winning mentality and already have a medal that sets us up for the season."
Young admitted making the £16million summer switch from the Midlands to Manchester was an easy decision particularly because of Ferguson's determination to win trophies.
"He has that aura about him," he said.
"He instils a winning mentality into you right away."
"When you look at his history, for him to come knocking on your door, it was a no-brainer for me to go there. You want to do well for him."
Asked what were the United chief's first words to him, Young replied: "He said it was going to be a challenge. But I challenge myself. I want to be a top player."
I've read somewhere United is rejoining the Nasri chase? But also read that Sneijder transfer is a done deal...
