The Manchester United Thread

People underrate Rio as he is not Vidic/Terry sort of CB. He reads the game well and hardly makes any fouls. At the peak I would take Rio as my CB over any current CBs.. Such a classy ball playing CB..

Good that we have Smalling and Jones who are very good ball playing CBs and also my fav Evans..

Bar Thiago Silva, obviously ;)

Lol, maybe for you as you are Milan fan :P Stil surprised as Milan fan should be saying Nesta at his peak ;)

Well I was talking style of play like you mentioned, and for me the best two ball playing / reading defenders have to be Rio and Thiago Silva!

Silva had somthing like 1 yellow and no reds in the league. Easily the best defender in Seri a and with Nesta fit they are awesome. Think Milan had the most clean sheets / goals conceded in europes top leagues last season. Plus he played a bunch as a defensive mid and did well.

I love Silva lol. when Rio is fully fit, he's is class too :p

Agreed. Thiago Silva is awesome and beast of a player.. His ball playing skills are amazing also his dribbling..

For me he is easily the best defender in Serie A and maybe in top 3 CBs in the world..

Would you fancy selling Vidic when Nesta retires? That would be a pretty hard to beat central defence! :p

Hopefully Rio can stay fit this season though

I dont want to end Pato career.. Vidic will eat everyone alive during training if he is not happy.. So wont unleash him :P

On topic though, Vidic wont be going anywhere :)

Tom Cleverley has expressed his disappointment at seeing a potential England debut snatched away from him.

The Manchester United

midfielder was drafted into Fabio Capello's senior set-up over the weekend after Arsenal's

Jack Wilshere was forced to withdraw with an ankle knock.

Fresh from starring for the Red Devils in Sunday's Community Shield victory over Manchester City,

Cleverley hoped he would be given the opportunity to make his Three Lions

bow against Holland on Wednesday.

He has, however, been forced to put those aspirations to one side following the announcement that a midweek friendly date with the Dutch has been called off.

Police advice

The ongoing riots in London have forced the Football Association

to heed police advice and cancel the game.
Cleverley has continued to train with the national side, but knows his involvement will go no further than that on this occasion.

The 21-year-old is frustrated to have seen such an opportunity pass him by but, should he continue to perform at the level he displayed at Wembley over the weekend, his chance will undoubtedly come.

Cleverley posted on his personal facebook page: "Gutted the game has been called off, can't begin to describe my feelings at the moment!"

I'm gutted for him aswell but I'm sure he'll get another chance sooner rather than later ;)

Nani said:
I am very well at United. I think it’s the best club in the world and want to stay there and work well.

“It’s good to know that big clubs are interested in me but, right now, I’m very satisfied with my club and I want to continue with them.”

Nani was the club’s Player of the Year last season with his most consistent campaign to date. He faces competition from Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia this term, but made a thrilling start to the season with two goals at Wembley, which helped United to 3-2 win over fierce rivals, City.

And Nani has warned United’s Premier League rivals that there is more to come.

“It was fantastic because it was a big derby,” he said. “We were losing 2-0 but we came back to get the result.

“We played an excellent game and I scored two goals. I came out of there very happy and I think that was my best game ever because it was an important match and because it gave us a trophy.

“I always give my best and I want to stay that way until the end of the season.”

Have to just love him.. Just he should cut down his antics on field.. He is no worse than many players, but I would prefer if he can cut it down..

Hopefully he will have even better season this time..

Jonny Evans is Manchester United's new Number 6, taking over the shirt from the departed Wes Brown.
Tom Cleverley has taken Evans' Number 23 shirt.

Apart from that all squad numbers stay the same.

Wooooohhhh... Cleverley got 23. And I'm glad Evans got 6.. Get in.

Now dont tell me those are just numbers, thats more than number for me at least..

Nobody posted it. But this morning, Park Ji-Sung signed a new 2 year contract. Runs until 2013 now.

Nothing.. 23 is awesome number, 35 is yuk..

6 is for a defender, not 23.. ;)

22 is still there ;)

So why do they matter so much if the numbers aren't specific?

So why do they matter so much if the numbers aren't specific?

Think it's a personal thing. Like, I can't stand seeing offensive players with defensive numbers and vice versa - I.E Fabregas #4, Zidane #5, Gallas #10, Gyan #3 (for Ghana) etc..
