He will no doubt be deployed at left back as Evra is seriously struggling.
That's a mighty big prediction to make. Agree that Evra didn't have the best of seasons last year, but I doubt Ferguson would compromise on having two natural full-backs just to drop someone who is, let us be honest, one of the best in the world in his position. Still, hey ho. We'll find out soon enough.

I meant fitness wise. He's a major doubt for the start of the season. I still rate him as one of the best full backs in the world.
I see, didn't know. In which case, yeah, they're in a spot of bother. Still, Smalling looked pretty good in the Community Shield there, and he's fairly quick.
Smalling Rio Vidic Fabio with an inexperienced albeit talented goalkeeper who doesnt yet speak good english behind them instills far less confidence than if O'shea were one of those full backs.
I'm sure we have enough attacking talent to win the game, but i will be very surprised if we keep a clean sheet.

I can almost understand Arsenal fans jumping at Wenger but this is beyond me...
Our squad is in great shape according to most pundits and fans. But imo we are a bit thin on the ground defensively. Selling John O'shea was a mistake, thats all i meant by my statements.
Fine with the amount of centre backs but I feel we need to add another full-back as we only have 3 natural full-backs atm. Ideally I would have liked to have signed Emilio Izaguirre to cover Evra but he broke his ankle recently so there's no chance of signing him.
I agree with that up to some extent, O'Shea is a player I really like, not because he is technically brilliant or anything, but because of his commitment and versatility. But I think it was a good choice to let him go, because he was a backup/rotation player and he deserved, in my opinion, some first team action, and Sunderland was ready to give him that. I think old Fergie thought of that and decided to let him go. Definitely not the best for United, but a nice way to repay the player for his years of service, even if O'Shea was more than willing to continue being a rotation player.
