2 - Manchester United have never lost after going two goals up in either the Premier League or Champions League. Impossibility.

Not happy at all. We forgot how to defend... Even Carrick was poor in defense.

Our problem isn't attacking movement, its defensive positioning, so I would say it is coincidence.
 
De gea almost conceded at the end ahahah xD!

Too bad ;) But don't worry, Benfica shall win the next 2 games against Basel and you guys will win against Otelul. FIXED!
 
De Gea put in another good performance but the defence was awful, Rio and Evra looked lost out there today :(
 
Wow, what a game! Still confident we'll qualify but Rio looked so far off the pace tonight. Really doesn't look like a first choice centre-back anymore. Evra had a bit of a shocker defensively too. Also, am I the only one who notices that whenever he loses the ball or we get caught out of possession he jogs back no matter what the situation. Always jogs, never puts his head down and sprints. Really annoying, especially when we were under the kosh and it cost us when they made it 2-2.
 
Credit where it's due basel were brilliant, but our defence had bigger holes in it than katie price and kerry katonas ****** put together.
 
That was an unacceptable performance. Berba should've won it at the end too, all he had to do was fire it across goal into the net or to Nani; 21 CL games without a goal now :S

One could argue Rooney's just as important a part of your defence as any other. His work rate and harrying in central midfield disrupts the opposition and doesn't let them settle.
 
Basel deserves lot of credit for the way they attacked us. Just awesome. We have dropped points lot of times before. Hopefully we take group games seriously from now on and please drop Evra for god sake. He is awful when it comes to tracking back. He just jogs instead of sprinting to get back to the position.

Basel take a bow.
 
No excuses at all, that was very very poor and un-charactiristic from Man Utd.

Welbeck did good job in hassling the defenders. Where we missed Rooney was when we needed someone to hold the ball the dictate tempo. Our midfield provided 0 protection to the defense and Carrick never gets stuck in. Sometimes he just ****** me off.

When we were losing so many balls in our half, we needed Rooney to drop deep and link up the play. We missed him in that aspect.

I agree, but positioning from our center mids and fullbacks was poor, so we can't "blame" Rooney for that.
Performance was poor, no excuses, we just have to beat teams like Benfica and Basel. Can't wait for Vidics return.
 
With all due respect we should win group games with out Rooney.

Waiting for Vidic to comeback. We are leaking few goals and many chances.

We let them create a lot of chances but we rescued it. I told them to finish it off at half time and it is a wake up call for us. Yeup. And of course the best form of defence is possession.

Agreed, it doesn't take away the poor defensive performance.

More unnervingly it wasnt too uncharactertistic, we've been very sloppy defensively in recent games, and only our excellent attacking ability has prevented it from really costing us

Carricks defensive work is intercepting passes and movement. When he is not doing that, he is useless defensively
 
You know what that game was crying out for? A Paul Scholes in his prime, or someone similar

See my post a few posts back i said the exact same thing. Hes great going forward but never busts a gut.to get back doesnt try to close down crosses and alwats gets sucked far too infield ive noticed his defensive positional play is abysmal.
