The Manchester United Thread

Carricks defensive work is intercepting passes and movement. When he is not doing that, he is useless defensively

Yeah Mike, but when he should be going for tackle near the box, he wont and let the attacker to get past him. His defensive game was poor but was good with distribution.

While I'm not pleased with the performance at all. At least now people will realize that we are not as awesome as most people have been saying. We were poor in defense against Bolton, Stoke and now Basel, any team with better finishing would have scored a few past us.

I can't wait for Vidic and Cleverly to come back. Cleverly should always start ahead of Carrick, atleast against teams that press all over the park.

Whats going on with Evra. Probably tired of continuously playing, he looks disinterested in getting back.

We've gone back to the 90's , with the we'll score more than you and win mentality.

We should start Berba and Nani in Europe, they can atleast keep the possession and not lose it when our fullbacks are out of position.

More unnervingly it wasnt too uncharactertistic, we've been very sloppy defensively in recent games, and only our excellent attacking ability has prevented it from really costing us

In the Chelsea match, the visitors should have won if they put away their chances. The difference was, in this game, Basel put away the chances they were given

37 years, 5 clubs, 2057 games as a manager: SAF has never lost a game when his team's been 2 goals up in all competitions.

Wow, what a stat.

I am amazed that Evra has not had a serious kick up the **** yet, because he seriously needs one. He is a burden to United.

In fairness, we had enough chances to put chelsea to the sword too

We need Vidic back as quickly as possible; he would kick up the **** of the defenders!

Manchester United fans taunt Manchester City rivals over Carlos Tevez with billboard in city centre

Manchester United fans have taken revenge on their City rivals' taunts over Carlos Tévez's move two years ago with a giant digital billboard image poking fun at the Argentina striker.

The image shown in Manchester city centre on Friday night says "Welcome to Carlos, Manchester" - mocking the giant blue poster erected by City when Tévez moved from United in 2009 showing a picture of the Argentina striker over the words "Welcome to Manchester".

The prank was the work of the Manchester United Supporters' Trust who described it as "a warm-hearted message from some old friends".

Tévez has been suspended by his club pending an investigation into his apparent refusal to come off the bench during City's 2-0 defeat by Bayern Munich on Tuesday.

City tried to draw a line under the situation by warning journalists not to ask manager Roberto Mancini about the issue in his usual Friday press conference.

Sir Alex Ferguson back Mancini's handling of the incident, praising him for his "strong management".

The Manchester United manager said: "Roberto Mancini has come out and shown his strength of character, his strength of management and that is important.
"We have all experienced our own difficulties in management and you cope with it as best as you can. In my own experience strong management is important and there is nobody more important than the manager at a football club."

to be fair... most of your real chances came when you were already 2-0 as a result of two offside goals, otherwise it could so easily have been Chelsea going in 3-0 up at the break

Not going to say much about the match as it has already been largely said and done before but it was a very close match nonetheless which Chelsea should have taken with the golden chances they had in the first half

that doesnt make sense. the point stands that both sides had plenty of chances, we could equally have put you to the sword

Welbeck offers lot more than Hernandez, we look lot better with Welbeck.

Manchester United are now 37 home games unbeaten in all competitions, one short of club record

I only earn £70,000 a week
So for luxeries the outlook is bleak.
So I went to Tesco to try my luck
And into a Krispy Kreme did tuck.
By the security men I was caught
Because I had not bought
The doughnut I did scoff
But Tesco kindly let me off.
Being rich and famous too
Sets me apart from the likes of you
Who would have certainly gone to court
For taking anything not bought.
As Tesco have their fingers in various pies
From this you could surmise
That it is possibly true
They are Man. United supporters too.

Alot short of the record in English football lol. Very impressive by Utd and it will take a massive super human performance by someone to beat them at OT this season.

Hernández is more of a poacher than Welbeck. He's (almost) always in the right place at the right time.

Welbeck offers a little more speed and creativity than Hernández, though, he's not always waiting for the ball as Hernández and Berbatov always tend to be.

50/50
Hernandez movement is amazing sometimes. But Welbeck does offer more like dribbling and creativity.

They're two different types of strikers and I could not agree more with you, Puddz.
