The Manchester United Thread

Here's hoping you're completely wrong but I fear the worst. Nemanja isn't the type of player to go down and stay down unless something is seriously wrong and he did look in agony when being taken off. The replay in slow motion doesn't fill me with much hope either. He'll be a massive loss in more ways than one how ever long he's out for.

Vidic injury blow for United | Manchester United News, Fixtures, Results, Transfers | Sky Sports
"United boss Sir Alex Ferguson revealed after the game that he fears Vidic has suffered medial ligament damage, which could sideline him for a significant amount of time."

Calling the January five mil bid for Darren Ambrose nao!

Kinda silly question to ask tbh.Neither team really struggled imo. Man City didn't really struggle considering this is their first Champions League season, and went on to beat Bayern Munich 2-0. They were unlucky they didn't make it through. And Man Utd just needed a draw to go through, and nearly did it despite playing badly lately and facing a decent side that managed to get a draw at Old Trafford.
Maybe Ferguson should of said something like this instead of walking off, but I'm sure he's abit ****** off and can see the headlines tomorrow about United's team being too young and what not.

It wasn't a silly question at all. United were in one of the easiest groups in the competition. You're saying you just needed a draw in your last match to go through, whereas in reality you still needed a draw in your last match to go through. You should've been already comfortably in the knockout stages before this match, you weren't, and by your standards it's easy to see why anyone would say you were struggling. And Bayern's team today was a second string team, you can't say City beat 'Bayern' 2-0.

It makes you wonder who needs a squad overhaul more - Chelsea or United.

Uninspiring performance. Papers will be crying that the current crop isn't good enough or investment is needed, but this time 4 months ago, United were cruising. I have a feeling 4 months from now, the tables will turn yet again and this will be put to rest.

I would not mind a new CM in Jan, but I have a feeling it won't happen. I can see one or two departures, but probably no new arrivals. Unless its a random name, like usually happens in January with the club.

EDIT: And look at it this way, when United were knocked out of the CL in 2005-06, SAF brought in Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra, both who became and still remain important players to the squad, that January. There is hope.

Not exactly sure what this is doing here, anyways, the vid is nice, except for his excessive mention of a certain 'god'.

Well, to hear about all **** this guy went through, I realized that this failure is not that big. So, it's nice motivational vid for us, Man Utd fans.

I doubt anyone thinks it's that serious lol.

Absolutely disappointed that we are out of the CL. But let's look at this way we won the Champions League just after two years after getting knocked out in 2005/06. And I was sad when I watched us going out but I am not that fussed you see. If we had qualified for CL it would have given an excuse for people like Gill and Glazers to say that even though we haven't spent a lot of money,we still managed to qualify for CL for 6 yrs running! It has opened cracks in our team that would have been plastered otherwise by the qualification to CL. But there is no excuses now we have to strengthen the team no matter what! Sir Alex knows this,he was disappointed, if anyone saw his face! And Is there anyone even slightly excited about winning europa league;for heaven's sake it is the only competition we have never won!It will be an amazing opportunity for youngsters to play in europe! I don't care which game we play I love any game which United play!

Very disappointed at being dumped out of the competition. The manager must also take some blame for it, everyone knew we needed a midfielder but one was not signed.
And whats with the closing down or lack of it rather. Even when we were losing the Basel players had too much time on the ball.

On a more positive note, the likes of Pogba, Morrison, Fryers will hopefully get chances in Europa League.
Also the competition must be a last chance of sorts for fringe players.

Lots of clubs ( eg bayern, madrid, barca etc) have labled the europa league as th losers cup. Anyway man city v man utd in europa cup.

Can you provide some decent link for that? Just few seasons ago Bayern were ripped apart by Zenit in UEFA cup, also Barca were did play a lot in UEFA cup few years back. Its not like none of the big teams dropped to Europa. Infact we are the most consistent when it comes to making to the KOs in UCL. We have made it 14 times in 16 seasons says a lot about how consistent we are.

Am I the only one who thinks this is slightly disrespectful? Someone had to ask the question because truth is, Man Utd for some reason has struggled in Europe this season. To walk off laughing without giving an answer is just not on.

I gotta say I'm pleased that came back and bit him in the ****. Proper ownage if you ask me. I love Fergie but that was very disrispectful to everyone involved.

Sigh. Talk about taking something out of context and acting like mediatards. Fergie was about to leave then this question was asked. Its not like he stormed off it. Well done BBC and other media for editing the part where he got up to leave press conference.

But but it wont suit our agenda, so lets ignore that.

Phew now everything is done and dusted, here is my view on this.

For some reason I'm not feeling low about this result. Simple reason being we never deserved it. We failed to beat Benfica and Basel in 4 attempts and we couldn't score more than a goal in a game for ages. We simply didn't deserve to qualify.

Also our lack of CM is hurting us real bad. Can't really blame Fergie either. Anderson, Cleverley started off season so well, many thought there was no need for any midfielder if Anderson can continue his form. He had few poor games then was injured. When Cleverely played we looked lot better, but with him out we looked toothless.

Playing Wingers/strikers in CM role didn't help either. Too many injuries made us to make too many changes in the team, we couldn't settle as a team and paid a big price. I lost count of no of CB pairing and CM pairing we used this season. Its impossible to be in sync with so many changes.

Hopefully we will play youngsters only in Europa and sooner we get out, better it is. Horrible to watch Thursday nights and league games on Mondays. We should play likes of Ravel, Pogba, Fryers in this cup.

First, I doubt he was 'about to leave', but let's say he was, what about the laughter? What about the 'are you serious?' bit? And if my ears don't deceive me, he also says 'I know we're not struggling'.

Now tell me, how is that not disrespectful? I'm guessing that does not suit your agenda...

No you should take this Cup seriously...Play those guys against the likes of Sporting and Atletico Madrid and see what happens...

He was about to leave. It was not as if he yelled at journalist. Oh wait SAF laughed at question? So what?

Journalist who asked him the question tweeted this
Matt Slater, has said ; ''SAF didn't really storm off, he was already leaving''

AnnieEaves Annie Eaves
He sat back down and answered it. All very light-hearted, people there laughed and somehow that becomes 'stormed out of press conference'.

And it was a daft question. It was more to do with "Standards slipping in PL" that somehow was turned into fergie stormed out when asked about english clubs struggling in Europe.

First team in Europa? With all due respect to Europa, No thanks.

I cried last night... I literally did!

You did? Tbh we didn't deserve it. Had we played like we did against Bayern and got knocked out, I would have felt bad but the way we played in Ucl we hardly deserved place in KOs.

perhaps it would have been different but we'll never know. All ifs and buts.

wkward....

:D I don't think that there is a huge problem with your team, you just need a midfielder who can hold the ball and knock it around. Just because you didn't progress this year, it doesn't mean that you are a bad side, more of a side in 'transition' (as the ITV boys were using all last night). You're still in with a shot for the title and the FA Cup and the Europa League, and knowing United you'll win one of those.
