The Manchester United Thread

Wow, simply amazing performance from United. I was definitely not expecting this after the "Baselgate" fiasco.

Passing was superb. We have attempted to do these Barca-style layoff passes all season but theyre finally connecting now. It's reminding my off the 1998-1999 season United style.

Jonny Evans - dare I say perfect game? especially that tackle in the 80th-ish minute, that ought to silence his doubters.
Ferdinand - smart as usual
Fryers - WOW. He;s not too big or strong but what a left foot he has, he has quick feet and is very technical in his tackles. He's definitely one to look out for.
Smalling - meh. He simply wasn't fast enough to keep up with Jarvis.
Jones - the new Hargreaves? I think so.
Carrick - decent performance. It's good that he's staying back and not straying too far forward.
Valencia - Superb. His stats sum up his performance.
Nani - great unselfish play. His stamina's letting him down again though.
Rooney - great game. Amazing passes (we needed more of those on Wednesday). When the second goal came around I stood up and watched in awe. Impeccable technique to score and impossible goal.
Welbeck - movement was good. Needs to improve technique though.
Macheda - same ^
Young - stop floating across the pitch so much!!!

All in all I was very pleased. One of the best open, attractive matches I;'ve seen all season.

Lots of praise for Carrick, but the simple truth is that he doesnt show his obvious class enough, and control the midfield with his passing, definitely benefitted from Jones' all action approach. We were very open today though.

Missed the game after Nani's goal. Valencia getting his confidence back?

It was classic valencia, quick powerful with an excellent delivery, burned them down that flank. Jarvis gave as good as he got though, he was excellent for Wolves, should be seriously considered for england, needs real chance in the friendlies

.

Agreed with everything except these.

Jones bombed forward a lot which Hargo rarely did. He had a very good game.

Carrick was not decent. He was superb. Didn't put a foot wrong. Both in attack and defense he was good. Kept possession very well and made good use of it.

Welbeck is technically very good, just have to find that goal. His passing, hold up play, movement was very good, he is way too unselfish. This kid is gonna be a star.

I liked what you said about Evans. Had near perfect game.

I would say it was opposite. Jones hugely benefited from Carrick's presence. He was there to sweep any loose balls and covered all the space left by Jones. Really he is becoming undroppable now.

Carrick had Jones doing the hard graft, thats why he could have his composed game, and i wouldnt call him undroppable. His ability has never been in question, his consistency in showing it has been. Needs to keep this level up

I said undroppable as he is our best CM by far. We can see the difference when he is playing and when he is not. Defensively we are very solid and also we keep possession better when he is in the team.

They both complimented each other very well. Would like to see how we set up once Cleverley is back. Carrick Cleverley looks good on paper.

All very well against Wolves (no offence wolves fans) but he needs to get back to doing against tougher sides too. We need that kind of performance from him every game.

Carrick? Arguably in the last few games (Last month) he has been our best player. It was so obvious how we missed him against Basel when our midfield was non existent.

In fairness that hasnt said much about our midfield in the last month, very average.

About Jones:

I'd say the one thing he has to improve on would be crossing earlier. Other than that Jones is proving to be amazing.

He completely bossed against Newcastle, played well against Swansea, Everton. Yeah I agree our midfield has been average, but he really stood out not only from midfield but from our team. Our attackers were in **** form, still he controlled the game well when we were winning 1-0s. Thanks to Carrick and Vidic. (Major reason).

Bu in those games he hasnt done what he did today. When Carrick plays like he did today, it makes everything easy. This is the level of performance he has shown in the past and what we paid for. Great performance, but one game isnt enough

Yeah, I dont know whether you have observed, he has been improving every passing game this season. Somewhat close to Carrick we all wanted him to be. Also he is making few forward runs which is very good to see as he is capable from distance.

Probably change in his role? Like previously he played very limited role but now he is playing expansive game. I would love this Carrick to play for England. Not that I will complain if he doesn't.

Playig with more freedom than last year, this is the carrick that should play for England, if he keeps it up. We still require reinforcements in the January window though

Yeah we need one proper CM for sure. That again depends on how well Cleverley will settle as SAF said there wont be any buys in jan (I know he is a troll). Carrick, Fletcher, Cleverley, Anderson. If they can keep fit then thats a decent midfield. Problem is we should play midfield 3 to bring best out of them.

There in lies the problem. decent. We need to do better than decent. And it doesnt help when we try to play a 2 man mid with that

But I'm sure we wont be signing anyone in Jan and also its **** difficult to boss the game when we play 4-4-2 unless we sign a Keanesque player.

We should be looking for than complete mid, and it is possible especially when you have the wingers drifting inside like we do, and then the second striker dropping off. We dont play a proper 4-4-2. We have bossed games playing 4-4-2ish. We still shouldnt be settling for decent.

Yeah we can easily improve but I dont see SAF doing it. :(
