The Manchester United Thread

I gave up Jones as CB. He is too good to be just a CB. He is a box to box midfielder like Roy Keane. Yeah, the player we struggled to replace for years, Jones is the answer.

There is a reason he is tracking Martinez, the two players are quite similar in that they can play multiple roles in the MC DMC CB, bags of energy, both intelligent players.

Also i dont rhink there is anything wrong with him just being a CB, he becomes the CB who can start attacks. The kind of CB english football has been crying for. Effectively our busquets without the whinging

Smalling can do that, Jones has all the ingredients to become top class Box to box player imo. His finishing is not bad either. He can pass, dribble, time his runs, can finish, can head. He should not be restricted to one role imo.

Nothing about being restricted, this is the problem we always have in english football, turning everyone into box to box players. Jones should be a centre back who can then be used anywhere else when needed. Smailling isnt a DMC

I said Smalling as CB who could start attacks. I know what you meant with "Problem with English football" but Jones is not a type of player you would want to confine him to one role. His positioning is bit dodgy, he likes to get forward everytime so I can see him leaking goals if played as CB.

Would be interesting to see what SAF will do after seeing how good Jones is playing as CM.

Some of the runs he made were pure Keanesque. I'm very honest here, till now I haven't seen player who could have filled the void left by Keane, but watching Jones play as CM I'm very hopeful about it. He has got such a high energy levels. In a way like Rooney but different position.

I think he will leave him long term at CB, Jones was doing this at blackburn as well. Remeber you would then have to find a top class young cb again, and Jones sees himself as a centreback, but is happy playing anywhere. Effectively you are looking at players in all areas of the pitch, who can play like midfielders, having that selflessness, passing and technique for possession

We have trouble finding top box to box player than CB ;)

I know where you are coming from, but I'm just over the moon seeing such a young player playing so many roles.

Today Evans had one more very solid game. We have Vidic (Who is just turned 30), Smalling, Evans as CB, not counting Rio here. So I think SAF will play him more in CM. Tbh I'm least impressed with Jones as CB due to his dodgy positioning. Very impressive as RB and CM.

Imagine Jave Martinez at United *fap* *fap* *fap*

Martinez would be the midfield version of Jones, excellent in possession, dangerous going forward, dropping deep to allow Jones to burst past him. the movement those two could create...

Carrick keeping another excellent performance, playing much better with the freedom he is allowed this season, moving with the ball

Until we have a quality DM like Martinez or M'vila, I think we should stick with Jones in midfield. He will be a CB though, and it doesn't mean he can't venture forward every now and then...he's going to be brilliant.

I think what jones is doing will allow SAF to pick his future midfield targets, although we are still very streched injury and performance wise, everyone has to keep their fitness and playing level up, with our injuries we have little space for rotation

I'm very happy watching Carrick back to his best. He has played well this season, as good as he played in 06-07. His goal was fantastic today, I was always wondered why he shoots so rarely when he is good from distance.

because he very rarely moves into those positions, on and off the ball, but he is doing so these days and should hopefully get more goals

Yeah he is moving further up this season which is great to see. Something to do with either change in role or confidence.

The fluidity from the front 6 was great, much like it was at the start of the season. Still need better full backs, also not sure if Welbeck is the best choice up front over Hernandez and Berbatov.

Nothing new here. Everyone knows Ferguson is a *****, but it is interesting to find out that he's effectively the reason that the Glazers were able to take control of the club; given the selfish legal battle with Magnier.

No wonder he won't speak out against them. Still, I doubt he'd care anyway, since he gets his money each month either way.

Erm....how on earth can people say Ferguson is a *****? He's turned Man Utd into one of the worlds biggest clubs.... He may say things people don't like or whatever, but a *****? No. Not a chance imo.

His ability as a manager doesn't dictate how likeable he is.

Fair enough lol. I'd describe him more as wily with the ability to wind up rivals to self destruction. A la Keegan
