Valencia tipped for return

Antonio Valencia could be fit in time to face Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Sunday 4 March.

The classy winger suffered a hamstring strain after coming on as a substitute in the first leg victory against Ajax in the Europa League and was expected to be out for around a month.

However, Sir Alex is hopeful that the right-sided midfielder will be back in contention for a starting spot against third-placed Spurs.

"The availability of Ashley Young and Nani as natural wide players considerably strengthens our attacking options," the boss wrote in his column for United Review, the official matchday programme. "And I am sure our strikers are pleased to see them.

"They will be sorry to see Antonio Valencia injured again because he too provides great service from out on his wing, but it's not a particularly serious injury and he should be back in a week or so."

Valencia will miss Sunday's trip to East Anglia to face Norwich City as the champions look to keep the pressure on Manchester City at the top of the table.

Great news.

Indeed, apparently he didn't need to adapt, instead fitting straight into the starting XI and doing well.

No Pogba in the squad and Jones is the captain today.

As SAF said our backline was too young! Good experience for the younger players though! They'll know what it means to play a european game! NO mistakes allowed! I think the reason behind our performance was lack of match time for players! Nearly every one of the starting eleven hasn't played regularly! Well next game is Against Athletic at Home! we got to improve our home performances in europe!

Honestly it naivety and complacency that almost cost us, 3-0 up on aggregate sounds very familiar to certain CL tie against Basel doesnt it? United as well as the other english clubs need to realize that Europe is closer to there level then in past seasons, we arent the only english side to take a supposed smaller European club lightly this season and have it blow up in our faces.

Across the board the whole club needs to wake up to this situation, Fergie and the players cause Athletic wont let us get off so lightly in the next round.

Cleverley isn't injured again is he? News are going on! Though no comments from club!

recorded the Ajax match and just seen it. Enjoyable match but god-Utd were lucky. Though that being said, Berbatov did well-though at times his passes lacked a bit in places. And though Gea has made mistakes in the season-that point blank save he did early in the second half was looking back, a save that progressed Utd into the next round. Good game and full credit to Ajax for coming back so well after going a goal down.

No doubt Ajax deserved to win! Played well!Good match! Hernandez goal was sublime! I just hope that he'll be more selfish in taking shots! RVN or Ole wouldn't have tried to square that ball like he tried to do for Berbatov! I don't think we'll mind the defeat too much;you see youngsters got a chance to play a european game and players back from injuries also got game time! I think that's why I wouldn't mind Europa League this season as youngsters will get a eurpean stage and they'll understand that playing in CL next season won't be easy and the mistakes they can't commit!

SAF took a huge gamble and we would have paid the price for it in the end.

2 CMs who were not match fit, park is not even a CM. Both lacks positional sense which made Ajax task even easier, they bypassed midfield as if it was not there.

2 wingers who are just back from injury. Both are lacking match sharpness. We didn't have other choice though.

Berbatov was back from injury, was not match fit.

Both Smalling and Jones were also back from injury.

SAF took gamble and dumped everyone at a time, (Which was understandable as we need them for league games too) but I would have preferred to play few fully fit players. Should have played Carrick for at least one half and Scholes for other rather than playing Park. Thats where we lost the game.

Park lacks positional sense? I assume you didn't see the two legs last year where Park played as a centre midfielder and denied Pirlo any time on the ball whatsoever, being the best player on the pitch in both? The whole point of Park is that he runs a heck of a lot, tracks a man phenomenally well, and has excellent positional sense. He's not a defensive central midfielder, is all.

Lack positional sense to play in midfield 2. He is good to play the role you said. He played that in a 3 man midfield, so there was other midfielder to cover all the space left by Park. Had we played in a 2 man midfield, Park would have chased Pirlo and other Milan players would have exploited the space left by Park.

Park in a 2 man midfield is a strict NO. In a 3 man midfield he did play well.

In that game Park played behind Rooney and had a free role. Not exactly as a CM. More like AM.

Yes! Don't know why but just think that it is an excellent opportunity for youngsters and it could be very important in the future.

I dont think we will use any youngsters tbh. SAF wants to win the cup and he didn't even put anyone on bench even after having 2-0 lead in the first leg.

Next we have Athletic, who are very good team. I think we will play second string team rather than youngsters.

Even I would like to see Petrucci, Pogba getting few mins but looks like not this season.

What youngsters ? Welbeck,Rafael, Fabio, Smalling, Jones, Clev and De Gea are almost first team options. Bar Pogba and Fryers, there's no youngsters in EL squad.
