The Manchester United Thread

Martinez I think is one of those players that could be moulded however you like him, he could definitely become a playmaker. I'd like to see him in the premiership soon, preferably at Liverpool, but that won't happen.

Not one of the calibre of Modric, though. More of a Carrick i feel.

In an ideal world we would get both. But its very unlikely atm.

For someone to be able to play that role he is in at the moment shows great character and ability. I will admit i have hardly seen him play but i have heard a lot from people who do see him and they rate him very highly. But with Modric you get a definate Prem proven player who will hit the ground running.

I don't know, I'm not a massive fan of Modric, I feel he's massively over-rated, seems to go missing a lot. Perhaps I just don't watch him a lot.

I don't think a more dynamic centre mid would do United any harm, after all, they don't NEED a midfielder exactly like Scholes.

I have no doubt in saying we would be in the top 3 and Torres would have at least 15 goals and i don't care if anyone disagrees they can do one lol.

I dont disagree just because I feel that many a team would become so much better overnight because of Modric.

Am I the only one who thinks that the cheap and cheerful Fernando Gago would be a good option? Anyone?

It's okay Fernando. I still love you. :(

And I'd be loathe to spend over £20 mil on a player who doesn't know how a handbrake works.

I'd be delighted to see player like Banega signed for 20 Million, rare CM who did better against Barca, when under pressure not many can retain possession like he did.

Not a bad deal tbh but think of it, many ManUtd fans go mad at Carrick saying he only plays sideways and backwards passes, if they watch Gago week in week out then they will slaughter him everytime he starts without even thinking about his role.

He is outstanding, he is the key behind almost all of Spurs' attack. People think about the assist, but he is the one feeding likes of Bale, Van der Vaart, Lennon etc. He doesnt just play well, he makes his entire side play well. Think Xavi/Scholes, but dynamic enough to take his man on too.

I like Banega, but it'd be a risk. You only need to look at the likes of Eduardo and, more pertinently, Aaron Ramsey to know that a broken leg can wreck a career.

Sod the fans. Carrick plays brilliantly whether he's made a scapegoat or not. I was saying to Mike. that Esteban Granero might be a good shout, too. Value is easier to find in a market than people give it credit for.

He would need lots of time to recover, as well as adapt. i would wait for him to make a recovery to full football in spain, then try.

Ever Banega.
Don't forget his (stupid) injury. First he should show that he's the same player. But like I said before, we really can't wait another year.

Tbh, I think he's more like Carrick than Scholes. And not that good. Another notable player would be Marvin Martin.

I dont think Banega's injury is as serious as Eduardo's and Ramsey's. Its a fracture, not a broken leg so I'm 100% sure he will be back as good as he was.

Yeah I know that, I was just saying how fans react. I even said he is good player and the later part is just "He wont pass forward" **** reaction that we see every day.

Javi Martinez is going to be better than Carrick, better technique, more creative, more flair, more pace, more versatile. For me he is a must buy this summer.

As I said, I don't watch him that often.

I wouldn't say he's more creative. But he's better midfielder for sure.

Manchester United’s peculiar £7.5million transfer of misfit striker Bebe is being investigated by anti-corruption police in Portugal, it emerged on Friday night.

It appears about £3m of the fee paid went missing. United’s decision to pay so much money for a virtual unknown raised eyebrows when they struck the deal with Portuguese club Vitoria Guimaraes in August 2010. Only 20 at the time, Bebe made just three starts for United - none in the league - before being loaned to Beşiktaş in Turkey last summer.

He appeared out of his depth at Old Trafford, raising questions as to why United had made such an investment.

Now it has emerged that Portuguese police are looking into the deal to find out where around £3m of the money has gone. Their anti-corruption department have scheduled hearings with various witnesses in Iberia.

There is no suggestion that United did anything wrong and they have previously gone on record as saying none of the transfer fee went directly to an agent. On Friday night United declined to comment.

Directors at Vitoria claimed at a board meeting 18 months ago that around three million euros went to Bebe’s agent, Jorges Mendes, as part of the deal. On Friday night, Mendes’ company Gestifute did not confirm or deny that police have been in touch.

Bebe’s transfer was so unusual because he was playing for tiny Division Two club Estrela da Amadora and living in a homeless shelter only weeks before joining United.

Mr. Ferguson has admitted he signed Bebe ‘blind’, having seen him play only on video. Former United No 2 Carlos Queiroz pointed Ferguson towards the tall striker after he scored 40 goals in six games during a street tournament.

Bebe went from earning £12,000 a year at Estrela to £12,000 a week at United. His former boss Jorge Paxaio told Sportsmail the player could have been signed for just £125,000 the previous year.

This season he has just started playing for Beşiktaş after rupturing knee ligaments last summer. He is expected to be sold by United - probably back to Portugal - this summer, to end one of the strangest transfers of modern times.

Mendes, once again. Think of him as a slightly lesser Kia Joorichiban. Not United's problem anyway since they paid direct to the club.
