This is the second time in 3 years Rooney has scored 25+, and the other year was downing to lack of fitness and injury for the first half of the season, and still matched the scoring rate with 14 goals.

We were not good enough but it is irrelevant to compare last season to this because of the circumstances

I never said Rooney cannot score 25 goals. I just said its difficult for both him and RVP to do so together in one season

I know Young was injured... Just saying I doubt he will score many this year

Coming to midfield issues, did SAF said we are not signing anyone? No. So for maybe Gill is working on that too, but we have to offload few players first.

Few might not rate ManUtd midfield, but that doesn't mean SAF doesn't. Cleverley is clearly talented and I don't remember him having a bad game when he played for ManUtd or England (even yesterday he did well against Italy).

Carrick is our best CM and one of the best in the league at what he does. You can see the difference in England's ability to play passing game with Carrick in the side.

Anderson: Very debatable but SAF trusts him, that's the reason he didn't sell him when Anderson wanted to leave (Which Fergie confirmed last season). When not injured, with run of games he always did well and I'm expecting him to step up this season. And pre season games showed he has matured and knows when to play killer ball and when to keep it simple. He has very god physical attributes too, very strong on the ball. He loves playing one twos and with Kagawa and Cleverley in the side, it will only improve his performance.

Scholes: Even at his age there is no doubt he has the ability to control the tempo. He struggles against big teams, which is more to do with our 4-4-2/4-4-1-1 tactic. He can still do the job in 3 man midfield against big teams and in 2 man midfield against smaller teams.

We can do with one more CM, someone who can win the ball as we have plenty of creative players, but it won't be end of the world if we can't get one. Signing Kagawa will address our last year problem of creating from middle rather than only from wings.

With Rooney, RVP, Nani, Valencia, Kagawa playing most of the teams plays on back foot. That's how teams feared when we had Ronaldo, Tevez, Rooney.

I was against the signing of RVP but you can see why SAF was so keen on signing him. World class player and we haven't signed one in last 10 years.

SAF also said if he could sign one player, it'd be RVP. Can see why he's leapt at the chance.

Yeah, so CM is still a possibility or even a LB. So we have money, just need right player for Fergie (I'm sure he has few targets).

Like I said we don't get chance to sign world class player every season (Who even wanted move to ManUtd rather than City, Juve).So yeah he felt RVP is too good a player to miss out.

Hmm not sure about Witsel, good player but is he United quality? He impressed me when I seen him but I am not sure because I do not know that much about him..

I think Fergie rates Evra too highly to sign another Left Back to compete with him, he did have a shaky last season but he is still pretty **** good on his day, just gets unnoticed, I still think he might of been effected mentally last season by the whole Suarez thing.

I would love him, seems to be a real talent and could be something special in a few seasons time, but realistically it will take something big to tempt Bayern into selling one of their greatest prospects.

Yep no chance tbh, but on witsel really rate him and played well against us for benfica last season only young so will only get better.

Well if we did go for him I have to ask why would we not go for Fellaini instead? Proven in Premier League, can play in deep or attacking midfield positions, has a good all round game, Everton are not in the best state (like us) and surely a significant offer would make them accept.

i think would cost about the same but truthfully i dont know mate who we looking at CM wise if even we are.

why spend millions on another young player which will only stump the growth of those already in the squad? Anderson and Cleverley were brilliant at the start of last season and people are forgetting we have signed Kagawa..
 
Kagawa can't play CM, or he can but he plays average.He is a genius behind the striker, and he should play there !

We will be ok but if we get 1-2 injuries like last seas we will be ******, plus dont rate kagawa as CM,scholes wont play much,same for powell.
 
you can't say Kagawa can't play CM. he's new to the league and could well play there, Rooney has operated in CM and with the attacking options now available we can afford to put him there if we need too.

Dont think either can play in CM as a 2 man mid dont think fergie will use any of those 2 tbh honest as CM rooney played there due to injury problems and carrick playing as CB.

Has 40m € release clause and only joined Benfica year ago. Doubt any club have financial power or willingness to sign him now for that price.
