The Manchester United Thread

That De Rossi rumour is on Sky Sports as well, makes you wonder as they have just signed Rodwell and also have Yaya, Barry and De Jong all there, how is Rodwell even going to get game time, he will enjoy the bench I assume.

To be honest I would be happy with Witsel although I do think there would be better alternatives to buy, for example Fellaini.
They bin after him for ages last couple of years and would be huge signing for them, there CM is pretty weak imo looks like de jong leaving barry is ***** rodwell still unproven and yaya leaves for african cup of nations in january.Plus we signed RVP so now they need to improve.

Even though I haven't really been for this transfer, I'm getting caught up in the excitement of it. CANT WAIT FOR THE OFFICIAL SIGNING!

If you lot sign Witsel it will be the best transfer of the window, regardless of the fee.

Anyone knows what wages RVP are on? Heard they are about the same or even more than Rooney's...

Doubt it'll be more than Rooney.
Be close but not more.

Might count significantly against you (FFP) although I think most EPL clubs will be fine due to the absurd increase in TV revenues

I've always been under the impression that Man Utd will be fine for the FFP. But that was mainly me being oblivious to how bad our debt really is, and the last couple of weeks of reading what people have been saying in this thread has worried me a bit.
I still think we abide by the FFP rules, just with a bit of a struggle.

Hearing reports that he is on 225k per week which means he will carry an FFP price tag of 1 million pounds more than Torres for the next 4 seasons and Torres is costing Chelsea badly.

RVP probably strengthened your team but he is costing you lot an awful lot of money.

The club is generating significant amount of operating profit so the wages of Robin Van Persie, although huge, would not hamper Man Utd's chances of abiding the FFP rules. Unless his salary is something like 50m per year, the club is still well within the FFP restriction.

No our wage bill is under control. With the increased revenue we can pay bigger wages and still maintain below 50% of revenue.

He isnt on 225k, there isnt a player on that. Despite what is often reported Rooney isnt even on that. Also we are more than comfortable re FFP.

As I mentioned earlier FFP is not a problem for you lot. But the amount of money RVP is costing in fee and wages strengthens my argument that the money would have been better spent elsewhere instead of on a aplayer you don't really need and is going to be a big gamble anyways in regards to his injury record

He is costing considerably less than a player like Torres. And we are still looking for another player. Van Persie marks a fundamental shift in how we play, means, we will certainly be playing a fluid front three.

SAF's aim is to have 4 high class forwards, with the aim of tearing through teams while maintaining a solid base.

Not the signing i would have made, but I can see where he is going with it.

Well Torres was a massively over paid transfer... Still does not change the fact that RVP is costing you a lot

And look wherever SAF is going with this... He should have reinforced the weaker areas of the team which he has not done. LB and CM. Your relying on Carrick to remain fit throughout the season and Anderson to maintain both form and fitness.

Also RVP is an injury-prone player. At the age you are buying him, he will have no resale value. You are taking a big gamble on RVP remaining fit throughout these 4 seasons

The whole point is not to sell him. Not every player must have a resale value. And actually Cleverley will play more than Anderson.

RVP hasnt been injured for 18 months, and out dept has a significantly better record at dealing with injuries than Arsenal. And again we are still looking for another player, since we were thwarted in our bid to sign said left back.

It's not a question of should have, rather, what we would have liked to have seen.

And I'd rather see us spend the money than see him go to City.

at £15m with £7m in appearances, the deal makes sense.

The reason why I mentioned the resale value is that you better hope that he does not get injured and performs to the very best of his ability for the next 4 years as you have litte to no opportunity to recoup your outlay on him if he does not perform

Your looking to sign another player yes but with the signing of RVP, you are obviously restricted as to how much you can spend. Baines would have been perfect however with the reported price tag, not sure if you will go in for him. Can't think of many LBs who are better than Evra atm yet will not block the development of Fabio

Your medical department definitely has a better record of dealing with injuies than Arsenal's... Still RVP has been injured multiple times over the past 7 seasons. It is still a big worry

Look RVP transfer is a gamble. You are signing an injury-prone player for a significant amount of money and wages and hoping he performs to the very best of his abilities and does not get injured because you know he will not have much resale value for you to recoup your transfer fee. This in turn I am assuming hampers your ability to spend on areas that actually need to be reinforced (LB, CM)

Sorry, I just feel this RVP transfer is unnecessary. Would have been much more worried if you had signed Moutino/Baines for example who would have plugged any remaining holes in your team making it much stronger as you already have an excellent strikeforce

Thats like saying, you better hope Ivanovic doesnt get injured, or any player. How does that work?

We have no cover for Rooney who is our most vital player. Now we do.

We dropped out over Baines before Van Persie, as he costs £20m ( he would also have no resale value) Also dont need a full back better than Evra, just adequate cover.

All transfers are a gamble, You just spent £25m on a player who has yet to prove anything at the highest level, on significant wages. You spent £32m on Hazard, you better hope both play to their level or your title challenge goes out the window. Could argue Oscar was unnecessary when Moutinho was available. See where im going with this.

Considering we still have about £15m left, it doesnt hamper us that much.

1) Because RVP has a pretty dire record of injures and since you are buying him in his prime for a significant amount of money... Your hoping he does not get injued in the net 4 years and performs to the best of his abilities as you have no way to recoup your outlay

2) Pretty sure there are younger, cheaper players out there who could have provided cover for Rooney if that was the aim of this transfer. There are none better than RVP surely but if depth was the problem...

3) Baines is a different matter though... He is not as injury-prone and would tie in nicely with Fabio's development. He can take over the starting spot from Evra next season and then when he starts to decline. Fabio should be ready to assume the starting role. Hence why he is a perfect option

Rules you out of getting quite a few top players who could have plugged those holes well (Fellaini, Moutinho)

Also regarding the Oscar transfer, 99% sure it was in Euro's and not Pounds ... Does not matter though. Its irrelevant to the debate
