The Manchester United Thread

Very poor preformance and we were nothing but lucky to win that game and although Gerrard won MoM (not taking anything away from him) I think Rafeal deserved it as well, dragging united through a poor first half and his goal was one that even a world class striker would be proud of gave united a belief, coupled with his never ending energy.
I think that the red card should not have been a straight red but a yellow for both Evans and Jonjo but Shelvey deserved a yellow before hand and that was the only problem I saw with the reffereing

Rio was as good as anyone on the pitch too. He was simply class. Still the best english CB imo. If not for back problem he would have been decent threat from set pieces too and would have carried ball even better from the defense.

Yes, definitely I have to agree. I think his performance against suarez yesterday was class, normally he is more into interceptions but I think it was like 5 or 6 times he tackled him in very tough areas. And another thing I have to sing his praises about is how he has adapted his game from where he once relied on his speed but now he has changed his game and is still as good. Although I think Jones has the potential to become a better CB than Rio

I doubt Jones could ever reach Rio in his prime. Smalling maybe.

it depends if he plays regulary at CB, as he is a player who can play in several positions that may hinder him. Anyway, like I said I think he has potential

We were a bunch of long ball merchants.
It was like looking at a team full of Stephen Stauntons at times.

I dont think even Smalling can. Rio in his prime was one of the best in the world ans from 2006-08/09 he was on different level.

worst first half of football I have seen United player in over a decade.. it was pathetic! Pool deserved to win the game! we were really, really fortunate to win!

Deserved red card though! He would have gotten a 2nd yellow anyway after the first challenge (which deserved a yellow)

I am glad Gerrard got on the score sheet on the day though :)

Evans was the best player on the field for United, Lindergaard was decent too! RVP was useless as was Nani and a few other players...

Seriously we have the worst luck in terms of injuries.Hope we don't play carrick at CB now.Would love to see Keane/Wootoon given a chance.

The official line before the last game he missed was, he was being "rested"? I felt something was up,as how can you be rested against arch enemies Liverpool. Maybe he was resting before his surgery? lol

What on earth has happened to our defence breaking down at same time, praying Evans and Ferdinand are fit for next 2 months or we are screwed again.

De Gea, Vermijl, M. Keane, Wootton, Büttner, Fletcher, Cleverley, Anderson, Rooney, Welbeck & Chicharito.

subs: Johnstone, Evans, Powell, Tunnicliffe, King, Lingard, Brady

5 players in the first 11 are from academy and 6 on bench from academy.

Pleased with our center backs thus far, wonder why didn't Fergie opt for them instead of playing Carrick there. Anderson was good in this game, so is Fletcher. Cleverley missed a sitter and that had affected his play I think, but he is complimenting Anderson well. Rooney dropping deep into the midfield position most of the time, so I'm actually quite confused on what formation are we playing.

Look forward to that tie.

We played much better tonight, Cleverley to start over Giggs every time please.
